Things to do in Sheffield
Rich with beautiful scenery, Sheffield isn’t short of beauty spots. Wander through the city centre before arriving at Sheffield Botanical Gardens. Enjoy a family stroll along the gorgeous plantlife and meadows among its 19 acres.
Perhaps combine your day at the gardens with a trip to Endcliffe Park. Only two miles from the centre, find a spot to enjoy a picnic by the lakes before a stroll by the riverside. If the little ones are getting restless, take them to the playground to burn off some energy.
In the evening, why not enjoy some family board games before dinner at the Treehouse Board Game Café? From Monopoly to Uno, choose from over 400 games before tucking into some of the café’s tasty treats.
Those looking to soak up some culture should head to the Millennium Gallery. Admire the metalwork collection displaying loads of artefacts from different continents. The gallery’s exhibits continually change so be sure to check what’s on before your visit.
When you’re finished at the gallery, head to the Winter Garden right next door! Wander through the glasshouse and gaze at over 2500 plants on display before a quick bite and a spot of tea at the café.
For a closer look at some exotic animals, spend the day at the Tropical Butterfly House. Book an animal encounter and meet otters, lemurs, meerkats or even snakes! Keen birdwatchers will also find loads of owls to see too.
To keep the youngsters entertained, spend the afternoon at Quasar. Get competitive in the laser tag arena, armed with a laser gun to hunt your targets down. Take cover in the maze before eyeing up your shot. For the under 7s, the Zap Zone is the perfect place to start becoming a pro in the world of laser tag.
If lasers don’t appeal, enjoy splashing around with the kids at Ponds Forge. Slide along the flumes or get the heart rate pumping in the fitness pool. The centre also has a sports court for those not wishing to get their hair wet.
Afterwards, try out the Sheffield Treasure Hunt Trail. Little ones can attempt to solve the clues to discover the treasure, taking you to some of the city’s lesser known landmarks.
When you’ve cracked the last clue, spend the evening taking to the arena at one of the sessions at Skate Central. Grab your skates (or hire some!) and head to the rink – ideal for beginners looking to learn something new or for perfecting your roller-skating skills.
Or, book a day at Parkwood Karting and see who’s the best racer in the family. Race along the 470 metre track as you attempt to set the best lap time.
After ticking off every box in your ‘to do’ list, explore the incredible Peak District scenery from Stanage Edge or the ruins of Peveril Castle.
