Budding historians can learn more about old British history in a fun and engaging way. Climb to the top of the castle keep for stunning views of the town and the Yorkshire Dales.
After soaking up the history at the exhibition, find the secluded Cockpit Garden and enjoy a picnic amongst the lush greenery.
When you’ve finished exploring Richmond Castle, wander along the riverside to Easby Abbey. Kids can run around the open space and will love exploring the ruins.
Continue your history tour with a visit to Kiplin Hall. Explore the 100 acres of woodland and parkland as you roam the Rose Garden before heading into the Jacobean house.

Taking you to the popular attractions as well as the lesser known hidden gems, the trail is a good way of getting around Richmond in a fun way.
After you’ve completed the trail, soak up some of the local history at the Richmondshire Museum. Admire the Roman artefacts and get a deeper insight into the town’s past as well as what life in the Dales was like long ago.
Close to the museum, walk over to the Friary Memorial Gardens and find its bell tower that dates back to the fifteenth century! After admiring the piece of history, sit down for a picnic by the flowerbeds.
The Foxclove Covert Nature Reserve is another good option for a picnic as well as an opportunity for some birdwatching. See if you can spot all the creatures at the reserve.
