Things to do in Settle
Set at the gateway to Upper Ribblesdale, this pretty North Yorkshire town is surrounded by dazzling landscapes, heritage buildings and great views. It's in an enviable position, nestled between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and enticing Forest of Bowland AONB.
Superb sightseeing by train, exceptional countryside and an art gallery with a difference are just some of the attractions to enjoy in town. Relaxing with a trip on the Settle-Carlisle Railway which passes through fantastic natural scenery, stops at eleven stations and passes over the iconic Ribbleshead Viaduct. Move over Hogwarts Express, this is a view you'll want to capture!
The surrounding countryside is also a exceptional walkers and cyclists, with circular trails, guided long distance rambles and gentle strolls. History enthusiasts will enjoy discovering the Museum of North Craven Life situated within the Folly, a Grade 1 listed 17th century house.
Also well worth visiting is the delightful Gallery on the Green which is possibly the world's smallest public art gallery - as it's located in a converted BT telephone kiosk! Visitors who are keen to take in a show should check out what's on in the Settle Victoria Hall which is an attractive Victorian music hall.
There are no shortage of shops to explore in the town, along with plenty of cafes, proper Yorkshire pubs and restaurants to boost energy levels afterwards. Swoop into the Yorkshire Dales Falconry Centre which is situated not far from the town to see flying displays, birds of prey experiences and falconry shows.
Settle is an excellent base for exploring the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, including the nearby striking Malham Cove as well as magnificent Ingleborough which is the Yorkshire Dales' second highest peak.
Take the adventure underground by exploring the fantastic Ingleborough Cave. Yorkshire Dales Guides can get you out and about abseiling, rock climbing and caving and all of these can be easily reached from Settle.
