About The Hideaway at Baxby Manor

This is a special, peaceful and restful place, the kind of retreat from the stresses of daily life that is hard to find. It's ideal for keen walkers and cyclists, and close to Yorkshire's attractions, situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Your setting is the woodland attached to a spectacular medieval manor - one that dates back to The Doomsday Book. This historic building is by the edge of Husthwaite village, a few miles from the market towns of Thirsk and Easingwold. This is the place for camping, campfires, and escaping to the countryside. Pitches are sheltered, level and spacious and many include 10 amp electric hook up for tents. There are areas reserved for adults and also areas where the whole family can stay - the best of both worlds, amongst a total of 37 grass pitches each allowing up to six people. The Hideaway has a strong environmental ethos that it maintains in all that it does. The site plays host to stunning wildlife and tranquil areas of unspoilt nature - it's a beautiful, natural environment. Glampers have a wide range of quirky and tempting options here, including dog free and dog friendly options. Dogs can stay in selected Hoglet Houses, which include real beds and hassle free shelter for those who want to enjoy some home comforts in the wild. If you love the magic of the countryside, you'll adore these pods. These include a round door and inside real beds along with quirky furniture and a cosy stove. The luxurious treehouse is beautifully secluded with views over the neighbouring moors. It sleeps six and is set among ancient trees, with fabulous features such as a hot tub and a secret slide to a hidden den... This is the perfect place to immerse in nature which is why there is a quiet policy after 10pm and it's asked music is only played through headphones. Sorry, dogs cannot stay in the treehouse.

Camping and glamping units are available between April until October, the treehouse is open all year.

We had a lovely 4 night stay on pitch T10. The pitches are set apart well and we had our own fire pit (perfect for toasting marshmallows each night). It's in a rural location so we heard owls and had a nightly hedgehog visitor which was fantastic to see. It was quiet at night too as everyone settled down. The site had a great pizza shack and I highly recommend the Churros and the breakfast bap if you fancy a treat. The toilets and shower blocks were clean. Easy to check in, and parking was close to our pitch. The only thing I would add is maybe duckboards in each shower cubicle so you have somewhere dry to stand afterwards. We loved the mini library for kids and grown ups too. A great find, I only wished we lived closer to Yorkshire!

Pod - Double Eco Pod (Pet friendly)Aug 2024

Me and my partner stayed in an Ecopod for a weekend. The purpose of the trip was to relax and unwind in peaceful surroundings, we did just that. The pod literally just has a bed. It was very clean inside. There is a fire pit outside with decking and a bench. We spend our evenings sat round the fire pit chatting until it was dark. A hedgehog visited both nights when it became dark. The shared facilities (toilets and showers) were really clean and well managed. We came during school holidays so a lot of people were using these facilities. They remained clean throughout. Pizzas served from the shack were lovely, as was breakfast. We had hoped to experience some of the advertised nature walks, but were unable to as the routes were overgrown and requiring some attention in parts. This was disappointing. The only other slightly negative comment I would make is that the mattress was very uncomfortable. This wouldn't stop me visiting again. This is a great place with or without children, the owner should be proud of the setup.

This is our fourth stay, we love it here, we can't fault the staff or facilities. Large pitches for your tent and each pitch has its own firepit. Unfortunately, people's lack of understanding of the camps policies can make your stay less enjoyable. We found many people going into the toilets with shoes on, leaving a trail grass behind them. Children seemed to be left unsupervised in the toilets, leaving toilet paper on the floor, blocking toilets. Toilets not flushed, just not nice to see. Also, love the pot wash area and the fact everything is supplied that you need, but we found we were having to clean the area before we could use it due to people leaving a mess behind. We loved the chickens but just found a lot of the younger children were trying to climb the fence or shaking it, maybe a sign suggesting children don't do that. As I said, we love it here and this isn't a reflection of all the hard work we can see you put in to the hideaway, just these few things can make your stay less enjoyable.
