Birchbank is a small campsite on a Lake District sheep farm, located on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary. The site has a small stream running through it which the children love to play in and is next to the fell, with footpaths and bridleways directly from the gate making it ideal for walking and cycling.

It was a lovely place but I would say that it is a working farm, which for some stupid reason I didn't expect. But it was fantastic, peaceful and plenty of great walks and places to go
Great quiet isolated site - peaceful

This site is excellent if you want a quiet campsite. Located in the middle of farmland it's away from everywhere. Site owners are welcoming and get you sorted out quickly and onto the pitches. Toilets and showers are basic (what you'd expect at a remote farm campsite) but clean and functioning. 3 toilets, 3 showers, washing up sink and fridge/freezer there. We had an electric pitch and all was perfect for our stay. Highly recommend for quiet. One point, if you expect phone signal, forget it! I believe only one network works and that's low signal but for us that was great, a rest away from phones and technology!

It was an absolute sun trap, beautiful weather all weekend. Couldn't have gone at a better weekend, everyone was super friendly. Beautiful scenery to walk around, clean campsite, showers and toilets were always clean. Nice remote location and not too big and over crowded.
Simple and cosy

Lovely little family run campsite on a working farm. Amazing location for views and walking straight onto the fells. Facilities were clean and regularly restocked with all the necessaries. Local information board was helpful for location of the nearest shops etc. Owner was helpful and accommodating. We would definitely like to make a return visit.

This was our first adventure in a tent and we were not disappointed. The road to the campsite from the main road is a few miles long and is a single track, which makes interesting driving the first few times you travel on it, until you get the hang of it. There are a lot of these types of roads in the Lake District, so be prepared. The campsite is as the description says on a working farm, which is surrounded by farmland and livestock and which we found added to the experience. There are few other buildings in the immediate area. The campsite is as we expected from reading previous reviews- small, clean and well maintained. Quiet, with no noise rules after 10pm which suited us well. Ample toilets and showers for the size of the site, which were cleaned regularly. Additionally, there is a fridge freezer that you can use free of charge. A washing machine and dryer are available for a fee. The site owners and friendly and welcoming. Worth the site fee. We had no issues. Would we go back...yes....already booked for the end of August for another 4 nights with our grandson.

This was our second visit to this campsite and it was just how we remembered. 15 minutes away from an Aldi in Ulverston, but you stay in a completely remote campsite with great facilities.

We absolutely loved our stay on this site. Beautiful views from every angle and walks right from the site, so you don't have to drive anywhere. The toilets and showers were spotless. Would definitely recommend this site to anyone wanting a peaceful away from it all location. A trip to Beacon Tarn is well worth a visit.
Thanks a lot

Beautiful location a little off the beaten track, with friendly welcoming owners. This is a quiet site and no noise by 10:00pm. Ideal for families of all ages. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend.

Just loved this site. Two miles off the main road along winding single track road through the hills and moors. Fairly small site but plenty of space between pitches and lovely views. Friendly welcome. Facilities are basic but kept immaculately clean, and included washing machine, tumble drier, fridge and freezer for freezer packs. Beautiful walks in all directions from the site. The site is on a working farm so expect the background sound of cows, sheep, tractors and loads of bird song. For anyone who likes the idea of wild camping but still loves a hot shower and clean toilets, this is perfect.

If you want a place in the middle of South Lakes farmland, this is ideal. Placed in a good location for walkers, or those wanting to ramble in the countryside. A quiet location, only farm animals and occasional farm machinery with early morning songbirds. One piece of advice, please be respectful of the simple suggestions about the quiet nature of the site. Unfortunately we were camping next to someone who thought it would be a good idea to fly his drone at 7.15am and then again at 10pm!

We stayed at this campsite in June 2022 with our two small dogs. It has the most stunning views, and the toilets and showers are always kept clean and has toilet rolls. Nice to see the farm running. If you are a walker, there's lots of walking routes. Very spacious too, not so close to each other. We arrived early to pitch our tent and, as the previous pitchers had left, we could pitch up when we arrived. Nice to see the sunset going down. You have to walk over the hill to receive your Wifi or telephone reception. But it is nice to get away and have no reception on your telephone for a while. Owners are lovely too if you need anything they will help. Our table had broken and got some glue from the owners.

Nice campsite, with lovely views. It is out of the way, so very quiet. Lovely to hear the farm animals and the cuckoo in the morning. Owner was very welcoming. Shared toilet facilities but wasn't a problem. 😊

We had a brilliant stay. Quiet and peaceful site. Back-to-basics vibes but with clean facilities. We were pleased that pitches are so far apart and all campers were spread out across two fields. Lovely walks nearby and the stream running through the middle was perfect for our toddler to play and splash. 15 minute drive from the gorgeous Ulverston Town centre which has everything you would need. Showers were free and never any queue for the toilets. Washing up area was spotless. The cows in the barn were brilliant background noise. We will definitely visit again.

Little campsite on a farm in unspoilt countryside with amazing views and walks. Basic facilities but very clean, with easy access to lots of local sightseeing places. Thank you for a lovely stress-free break.
