Birchbank is a small campsite on a Lake District sheep farm, located on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary. The site has a small stream running through it which the children love to play in and is next to the fell, with footpaths and bridleways directly from the gate making it ideal for walking and cycling.

Lovely campsite. Nice and quiet away from the "busy world". Felt very welcome and facilities were always kept in great condition. Did enjoy the sheep in the morning.

If you like a site in middle of nowhere it's ideal. Beautiful countryside. On a farm so lots of animals around. Facilities bit basic but very clean. Ulverston quite near for shops etc.
Amazing location, spotless facilities

This campsite is a working farm set in the most scenic location, surrounded by nothing but beautiful rolling hills. Only a 30 minute drive to Coniston, and a 25 minute drive to the bottom of Windermere lake, it's a super convenient location as well. The facilities were kept immaculately clean, and were easy to access/use. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Pleasant location on a working farm. The barking dogs late at night were annoying but it's a dog friendly campsite and we had our own.
Best campsite we have ever been to

This is the second year we have been to Birchbank and we will be booking for next year soon. It is set in the most beautiful part of the lakes, right next to all our favourite walks. The facilities are basic but VERY clean and well maintained. The pitches are huge and the view from the tent is stunning. The price is amazing. As a large family holidays can be quite pricey, but not at BirchBank. The kids had the best time spotting the farm animals on the fells. I would highly recommended this campsite to all.

I have recently returned from a short family trip (2 nights) to this quaint beautiful working sheep farm. The host, Mrs Nicholson, was extremely polite and helpful upon our arrival and was a regular smiling face about the farm/campsite when we were there. The farm is a short drive (roughly 5 minutes taking it slow) on a single track road through countryside with farmers sheep roaming wild and free - the kids loved how close to the car some sheeps would venture. On the drive to the farm the views are nothing short of spectacular! The site has a lovely town called Ulverston with shops, bars and restaurants only a 15 minute drive away. We used the campsite as a base for trips to Lake Windermere. Site has 3 showers, multiple toilets a communal standard fridge/freezer (be considerate to other campers and don't fill it up with things you can easily purchase locally) as well as a washing machine and a tumble dryer - perfect for trips for kids!

Excellent campsite, returned again after a great stay last year. Group of 6 mates, facilities are simple but clean and well maintained. Noise curfew of around 10pm but that's not an issue as long as you aren't blaring music and shouting. Campsite is around 15 mins from Ulverston which is really handy and close enough to Coniston. Overall a great experience, will definitely return again. Very well priced, especially if it's a group who are splitting the cost, worked out at around £15 each, total, for 3 nights in August.
Beautiful views, remote setting is peaceful and relaxing

Good site in rural area - facilities are fine and fridge/freezer/washer is a bonus. Showers can get busy as there aren't many, but we never found it a problem. Non-electric is a 'find your own space field' which is good, as you are able to pitch where you like.
Fantastic peaceful site!

My family and I stayed here as we were visiting South Lakes Zoo. Initially, we booked it for its close proximity to the zoo - being just a 25 min drive away. Upon arrival the site was as expected, a working farm with amazing views! We had a lovely warm welcome and just needed to pitch where we fancied (non electric). The facilities had everything needed for a comfortable stay. A toilet block with showers, a separate shower in another building, a communal fridge (although we didn't need to use it) and a pot wash. All of which were incredibly clean and cleaned regularly throughout the day too. The only thing I missed was a baby change unit, other than that I couldn't fault it. Our two children either spent evenings playing football by the stream and loved every minute. Lovely country feel to a very peaceful site, sheep everywhere we even had an unexpected visit from some local horses one day too which was just lovely! One thing I'd recommend to campers would be if you need a few groceries nip to a shop on the way. Once you're there and pitched up it's a bit of a drive, and I personally wouldn't have liked to have done it in the dark. We will be booking to stay again, and very much look forward to it!

Simply a getaway from town life. Nothing but sheep and fields for miles. Toilets and showers are super clean. The site is spotless with a little area for every size tent. Small beck running through for the kids to play. Close to lakes. And a small trip to the local town. For all things needed. Will be visiting again soon. Great little find.

This campsite is lost in the countryside, with hills, horses and sheep everywhere. Very quiet and chill. The commodities are very clean and simple. A very good place.

A great little campsite with clean facilities! Large pitches and plenty of space between campers. Room for the kids to play about and they loved paddling in the small stream as well!

Would recommend to anyone. The location was perfect, with lovely secluded scenery but not far from Ulverston for shops and the Consiton/Windermere lakes. Great value for money considering all of the facilities (showers, toilets, fridge/freezer) and overall cleanliness and upkeep of the campsite! Host was lovely and accommodating and would certainly return.

Birchbank is in a lovely remote location. The views are stunning and yet it's not too far from shops in Ulverston. The Aldi, M&S, Greggs, Starbucks & Booths are only about a 20 minute drive away. Really good price and spacious pitches. We only saw the hosts upon arrival, apart from that we were left to it, which was good for us as we prefer that. There was a little stream that went through the campsite which the kids loved and we loved the sound of at night. The toilets & showers were clean (the water in the wash/toilet area was a bit off coloured, so do recommend taking hand sanitiser if that bothers you). The only thing we weren't sure of was that the toilets and showers were all unisex, as you could be in there with men and women at the same time. Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent campsite, wonderfully remote. Bonus being on a working farm and can only hear animals and running water. Teenage children enjoyed themselves and helped with limited mobile signal, so being outdoors was the best option. Better weather would have been a bonus, but can't have everything!
Superb, a great remote campsite

You won't be disappointed. What a find! Remote working farm campsite run by the lady of the farm. She is a saint, never stops and could not be more pleasant & helpful. 12 spacious numbered grass pitches in the main camp area nearest the facilities, more space through a field entrance to a grassy field. Well tended, kept mown and good drainage. Our advice - in the main camp area you may need hard ground pegs. Facilities are not luxurious but perfectly adequate for a farm campsite. Facilities are shared. Water pressure in the electric showers is weak but we have similar in our village so used to that. The water is good hot. The toilets are well stocked decent soft toilet paper, (Hint if you run out, look up!) and, glory be, a loo brush. (I have a bowel condition and need a brush, often overlooked on campsites). The wash up area is one sink but we did not have any waiting as it was not so busy whilst we were there. (Another hint: the water is absolutely scalding). Round the corner is a small utility room, washer/drier, fridge/freezer etc (honesty box so pay up). The facilities are kept scrupulously clean at all times. Excellent service. The weather was horrendous most of the time we were there but we were there to test our tent anyway. All in all a lovely little site if you want remote and peace and quiet. We will definitely return. Well done to the owner. Your site is smashing. Thank you.
Peace

I don't want to recommend because I want to keep it a secret. Been here a number of times for a peaceful break from the outside world. No shops. No entertainment. No loud music. No traffic. Perfect. See you next time.
