About Hillside Caravan Park

If you are searching for a spacious site, with plenty of nearby walking routes, this family friendly park could be the perfect choice. Nestled beside a Yorkshire village, only five minutes from the popular North York Moors National Park, the location is great for those looking to explore the outdoors. For those wanting to pitch up on the grass, there are a total of eight grass pitches available. Each of the grass pitches comes with a 10 amp electric hook up, allowing tourers only. The site also offers a great selection of fully serviced hardstanding super pitches. All of the super pitches on offer come with an electric and water hook up, plus a TV aerial connection, all-in-one conveniently low level lit bollard and grey water drainage. Great views are all part of the package! There are 35 super pitches which come with a 10 amp electric hook up. These are located near the amenities block or the children's play area, great for families. There are also 15 extra spacious pitches which come with a 16 amp hook up located by the lake area with views of the Hambleton Hills, though a little further from the amenities block. Hillside also offers a range of cosy glamping pods. The mega pods sleep up to four, equipped with a double bed and double sofa bed, a lounge area with a sofa and TV, plus a kitchenette and dining area. You will also have your own ensuite bathroom with a toilet and shower. If you want an extra bit of luxury, the site also offers two deluxe mega pods. These sleep up to five guests in a double bed, double sofa bed and single bed with bedding and towels provided. Inside is a modern interior with underfloor heating, a large kitchenette, a large shower room ensuite plus a Velux window. Outside all of the pods, there is also a small decking area and picnic bench for al fresco dining. Two of the mega pods and the deluxe mega pods are pet free, whilst the other two welcome your four legged friends to stay with you! Dogs are also welcome on all of the pitches, with up to two allowed per pitch. There are also plenty of nearby walks for them to stretch their legs. For evenings in the open, BBQs are welcome but must be at least 50cm raised from the grass. Open fires are also prohibited.

Hillside Caravan Park is open from 01/01 to 04/01 and 02/02 to 31/12 in 2024 and from 01/01 to 04/01 and 01/02 to 31/12 in 2025.

A note from the site themselves...

Hillside Caravan Park was founded by the Cook family back in 2005 as a farm diversification project to help support the farming enterprise. The farm has been in the family since 1966, passing through three generations, all of whom have farmed dairy and beef cattle which then progressed to solely arable land from 2003 onwards.

The caravan park opened in the summer of 2006 with touring caravan pitches and a purpose built amenities block and caravan storage facility run by the owners Chris and Pat Cook. Since then, the park has continued to grow with constant improvements and developments being made!

Single Axle Caravan - Fully Serviced Hardstanding Super PitchesNov 2024

Lovely big site, great for walks. However, don't miss the entrance to the site as it is a long way back round to get to the site and almost all is single lane traffic. I tried turning in the entrance to a field but there wasn't enough room. The site is well kept and clean, we didn't use the facilities as we like to use ours in the van. The super pitches are massive but they are a bit of a walk to the washroom facilities if you want to use them. The site could also do with a few more dog poo bins as I can only recall seeing one.

Good location and quiet

Glamping Pod - Deluxe Mega Ensuite Pods Oct 2024

The location was beautiful, the pods we stayed in were on well kept lawns and a 30ish minute drive to lots of English Heritage sites. The pod was really spacious. We chose the deluxe as it worked out cheaper than renting the bedding in the standard. The crockery is provided with the Deluxe Pod but looking at the pack there is an additional charge for the non-deluxe pods. Just for reference it might be worth taking some cash as you have to pay a deposit for a TV remote. Also the WIFI was only supposed to available for 2 devices (in a 5 person pod). Although there was no WIFI signal to connect to. I really liked the park on site, I can imagine in the summer the field gets a lot of use with the football nets. The pods far enough away from each other to not hear any neighbours.

Peace and quiet in the Autumn

A great well organised campsite. It was clean with big pitches. Also quiet, though my visit was in the Autumn.

Flamingo Land in Malton is Yorkshire's ultimate theme park attraction and the UK's most visited zoo. It's a fantastic family day out and only around 55 minutes away, though worth the trip!

Be sure to also make time for the World of James Herriot in Thirsk (10 minutes). It's a unique tribute to Alf Wight, famous author of the James Herriot novels and is the only centre of its kind in the UK dedicated to veterinary science.

Vet and author James Herriot declared the tremendous view from the dramatic Sutton Bank escarpment over the Vale of Mowbray and the Vale of York, the 'finest in England'. So why not stop at the top of the bank, visit the centre and blow away the cobwebs with a walk or cycle ride? It's an official Dark Sky Discovery Site too, one of three in the North York Moors. Entry to the centre is free.

You are surrounded by beautiful countryside, ideal for walking dogs, and many Yorkshire walks are available, ideal for all abilities and ages. There is a public footpath running through the farmstead, leading onto a network of public paths and bridleways which will take you to the North Yorkshire Moors and the Cleveland Way.

Other nearby attractions include:

  • Boltby Trekking Centre (10 minutes)
  • Kilburn White Horse (20 minutes)
  • Kiplin Hall (30 minutes)
  • Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park (30 minutes)
  • Thorp Perrow - Arboretum and Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre (35 minutes)
