Things to do in Llandudno
The Welsh town of Llandudno is situated on the Creuddyn peninsula in Conwy. You're in for classic seaside beauty here, including a balmy seafront sheltered by two headlands.
Start by getting familiar with one of them! Try exploring the Great Orme, a limestone headland that leads you straight to panoramic views and is a pretty spot for picnics. Up there you'll also love the Great Orme Family Golf Course and the air of ancient history at Great Orme Bronze Age Mines.
You can't do better than to see it all via the Great Orme Tramway which is the sole cable-hauled public road tramway in the UK. A trip via the Great Orme Cable Cars will make you king of all your survey and keep you perfectly safe as you float over the lovely backdrop.
Once you've got both feet back on the ground, don't miss West Shore Beach and North Shore Beach. The Little Orme, which is a smaller headland on the opposite end of Llandudno Bay, is well worth exploring too. Reserve an afternoon for the Happy Valley Gardens, dating back to 1887, where you can drink tea in the pavilion or trick your eyes in the camera obscura.
A walk along Llandudno Pier, the longest pier in Wales, is a must-do activity. As you walk, you're surrounded by coastal views, shops, amusement arcades and a few of the local Welsh treats. Take to the promenade to stretch your legs and linger at the band stand that allows small local bands to perform freely to the walkers on the prom. It's here that Venue Cymru will treat your eyeballs to an array of shows and the arts.
Once the little ones can walk no more, perk them up with a trip to Bodafon Farm Park with its cute animals, tractor trailer rides and pony rides. The farm has incredible views over Llandudno Bay, and they'll allow kids to feed the animals, or get fed themselves in the restaurant on site - scones, a BBQ and wood fired pizzas are all on the menu.
For thrills of a different kind, head to the Llandudno Ski Slope. Crank your way to great heights on a chairlift and then fly down in a twisting toboggan - the longest toboggan run in Britain. If you're new to the sport, glide down on a tube, have your first ever try at snowboarding or get the kids on a pair of skis.
Love museums and art? Then check out the Home Front Museum which brings alive 6 years of war history in a wave of notsalgia, transporting you straight back to the 1940s, or the MOSTYN Gallery, which is packed with examples of international contemporary art. It'd be a shame to leave without wandering Llandudno Museum, too. This part of Wales is built on captivating limestone caves and the museum is packed with priceless treasures from ancient civilisations.
Great nearby places to visit include Colwyn Bay and the Welsh Mountain Zoo, as well as the town of Conwy and Conwy Castle.
