Wigrams is a secluded hideaway located at the junction of the Grand Union and the Oxford Canal in southern Warwickshire. This member-only camping and a caravan site is the ideal place to stay when exploring Warwickshire, or to start and finish a trip on the canal. Warwick Castle, Shakespeare Country and the royal town of Leamington Spa are all within a short drive from the central base.

Why you'll love it at Wigrams

About the site

Wigrams will suit anyone in need of a quiet weekend away, to sit and watch the sunsets over a glass of something chilled, or to find a base with family to explore the jewels of Warwickshire. The site is situated directly on the canal-side, ideal for rambling along the towpath in three directions. Despite its tranquil environment, it's close to several market towns and a short drive from Stratford-Upon-Avon and Warwick. This secluded, principally grass site is never overcrowded and overwhelming. As a small, member-only park, it houses only five caravans or motorhomes and ten tents, which preserves the community atmosphere. During the winter season, due to soft ground, the site's capacity is further limited to a small amount of hardstanding spaces. It allows BBQs, and remains dog and family friendly, with a huge open space where children can get active or safely explore.

Being perched on the canalside, watery attractions are popular at Wigrams. There is fishing available in the canal for those with a licence and a selection of good local pubs serving food to refuel after a day by the water. Take a long walk following the canal route and spot the local wildlife. There are also several canal hire fleets, some offering day boats so you can explore further.

Next stop is the local village of Napton where visitors can watch the band of bell-ringers in the local church or visit the local shops. Just beyond, the town of Southam will attract history buffs, being the site of the first battle of the English civil war.

Warwick Castle is a major attraction in these parts and hosts daily demonstrations and shows. Take the kids along and they'll love the themed banquets, castle dungeon and Horrible Histories Maze.

Nearby there are shopping centres to lighten any wallet, such as The Royal Priors and the Heart of the Shires. Warwickshire is chock-full of National Trust properties too, so why not roam around Upton House and Gardens, learn about the Tudors at Baddesley Clinton or watch the deer at Charlecote Park.

It goes without saying that the site is near to Shakespeare Country, so Stratford-Upon-Avon, just 45 minutes away, will satisfy any fan of the bard!
