Things to do in Warwick
There's no shortage of interesting and fun things to see and do in Warwick. It's a charming town with a rich history and plenty of well-preserved icons to explore.
Warwick Castle is a top family destination, with highlights including the spooky castle dungeon, jousting shows, and the world's biggest working trebuchet siege catapult. The castle is renowned as one of the most intact medieval fortresses surviving today, and its tower and ramparts are hugely photogenic.
Tucked down the side of the castle on the banks of the River Avon, The Mill Garden (a beautiful private garden with a small entrance fee), offers a different perspective on the imposing castle from below.
Those in need of an energy boost at this stage should grab a taste of the past at the quaint Mary's Sweet Memories in Market Place before exploring further. A bag of sweets bought by the pound will help keep enthusiasm up for anyone starting to flag!
Other historical landmarks include the beautiful Collegiate Church of St Mary's, Warwickshire Museum, Lord Leycester Hospital, and the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum which allows visitors to dress up as historical characters. At Hill Close Gardens you'll find 16 hedged Victorian pleasure gardens, restored to capture the planting and personalities of their original owners.
After so much history, St Nicholas Park is a good place to stop for lunch and some fun. There's a playground with a paddling pool, 18 hole mini-golf course and boats available for hire.
There's more family fun on offer at Hatton Country World just outside of town too, with rides, laser combat, farm animals, and a Superslide Mania soft play area (a good rainy day option). There's also a shopping village with a myriad of interesting independent shops.
National Trust Charlecote Park is just outside of town, and has an impressive Victorian stately home and pretty deer park to explore.
Alternatively, a visit to Warwick Racecourse to experience the thrill of horse racing will get the adrenaline pumping again. There are 25 race meetings at Warwick, which is one of the UK's leading jumps courses.
Stratford-upon-Avon, Royal Leamington Spa, Rugby, Coventry and Banbury are all good day trip options.
