About Gabriels Fishery Certificated Site

If you are looking for a break away from home to stay in a campsite surrounded by trees and wildlife then this is the perfect place to stay. You can use Gabriels as a base and go on day trips. Drive for 20 minutes in any direction and you will have various castles, stately homes and gardens to visit. Although, why do you need to drive anywhere!? Stay here there's plenty to do and see. Gabriels Farm was nominated for the Richard Neame Local Wildlife Sites Award in 2012. The variety of butterflies and birdlife around the site is mesmerising. There are pitches that can fit everything from a one man tent to a large family tent / marquee together with all the family and your friends. If you have a small tent you can also camp in Spookys Wood, the site's own wild wood camping area. Rallies are welcome with pre booking. There are several fields available that can cater for different sized rallies and other group events previously held on site have included under canvas film evenings, takeaway food evenings, BBQs and family gatherings.

The site is open from Easter until 30th September each year.

If you or your partner is interested in fishing, this is the spot to wile away a relaxing day in the sun and see what you can catch. There are five large lakes and a stretch of the River Eden.

If you only want to drive 10 minutes, you will reach Hever Castle, home of Anne Boleyn and meeting place of King Henry VIII, top golf courses and a leisure centre in Edenbridge. Plus there are pubs and restaurants all around where you must try some of the local flavours, with many personal recommendations including The Castle Inn, The Plough, The Eden, The Kentish Horse and the King Henry IV.

There are also many more picturesque castles nearby, such as Scotney Castle, Wakefield Place, Tonbridge Castle, Penshurst Place, to name a few. There are cinemas in Oxted, Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead for when it rains. Sailing, kayaking and canoeing are available at Ardingly Activity Centre or there are plenty of shopping and garden centres locally too.

If you're interested in aircrafts, there is a fight path that changes to come right over the site. Some days you have one or two, other days you have many, or sometimes there are none at all. It's fascinating when paired with a flight app on your mobile - you can see what flight it is, where it's coming from and what speed it's going.

The Eden Valley Walk starts on the farm at the site of the skirmish between the Roundheads and the Cavaliers who were in residence at Prinkham Castle. After the battle the Roundheads ruined the castle and what remains today was renamed Starborough Castle, now rebuilt and used as a private home.

The Eden Valley Walk then crosses the River Eden and takes the walker into Edenbridge via the sports ground - over about a mile. The valley is a relatively level piece of land and delivers a great opportunity for those who enjoy cycling and visiting interesting places.

Edenbridge High Street is part of the Roman Road which runs north / south. In the town you can get active with tennis and golf, swimming, or browse local history in the town museum.

Continuing the Eden Valley Walk for another three miles through the most delightful countryside will bring the walker into Penshurst where The Chequers is a favourable resting point. Penshurst Church and Penshurst Place are both worth a visit.

Other places of interest within five miles of the site:

  • British Wildlife Centre (South of Blindley Heath A22)
  • Squerryes Court (Westerham A25)
  • Quebec House (Westerham A25)
  • Emmetts Gardens (Toys Hill)
  • Chartwell, the home of Winston Churchill (North of Four Elms)
  • Bough Beech Reservoir wildlife reserve (North of Bough Beech)
  • Hammerwood Park (Holtye near Cowden)
