Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

Lovely location set in a gorgeous location in Wales. For me, the campsite was let down by facilities that are relatively far away from the tent pitches and some noisy, inconsiderate campers.

Great stay despite the bank holiday rain!

Fantastic location and great set up. Despite the bank holiday rain we thoroughly enjoyed the site and the facilities. 100% recommended.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Woodland Tent PitchesAug 2023

This break was exactly what we needed. Our woodland pitch was private and spacious, and we often felt we were alone out there. From your tent there is a path that takes you directly to the estuary, and from there you can walk or cycle to the coast. Literally five minutes from the campsite is the road to Arthog - we spent hours getting lost up there in the wilderness. The campsite staff serve fresh Thai food and deliver it to your tent - we thought this was a great touch, and the food was amazing. The toilets and showers were fully plumbed, with warm water and sinks. Sometimes these facilities were a little overrun and there were waiting times. However, it was bank holiday weekend, and we quickly learned to time things outside of peak hours, which was no problem. The facilities were always clean, and there was never any shortage of toilet paper or hot water. We are already planning a return - what a magical place.

Basic and perfect

We had a lovely wooded pitch. Nice, quiet and surrounded by trees. Perfect. Toilets and showers are basic and all you need in a wild style place. Very rustic. Just as we like. Defo going back.

Fantastic place to camp in the woods. Only a short walk to the estuary and countless woodland walks to enjoy. The staff were very friendly, approachable and professional. Would highly recommend this place, I would definitely come back again. The only downside (but it is just personal to me), I thought that the woodland pitches could be a bit further away from each other, just so that each pitch could have its own sense of space and not look through the clearing and see your neighbour.

We loved Cefn Coed

We really liked the location and wished we had brought our bikes to access the Mawddach Trail nearby. Easy access to Barmouth, which is where we spent most of our time. I visited alone with my 8 and 5 year old daughters. Showering was interesting, as there is hardly any room to get changed with a young child in the tiny individual cubicles which you were expected to changed in (no other changing areas). The facilities were a bit of a trek from the grass pitches, so we couldn't even just shower and run to our tent to get changed/dry. Also, the drains were blocked so we were getting 'dry' and changed ankle deep in water (with a 5 year old this is no mean feat!) The toilets are pretty small too and when its busy in the same area (toileting, showering and washing up area), its pretty cramped. Having said this, it was a lovely site its just best to be prepared if you have small children!

Disappointing

Good points - delicious Thai food delivered to your pitch. Disliked the facilities block as it was an up hill walk from the grass pitches and no hot water in the toilet area. People washing dishes when you are washing and showering in the same area. No provisions for rubbish. Grass area had very long grass and it was hard to get pegs into ground. Not good when it's windy.

We had the most beautiful time at Cefn Coed. I could not recommend this campsite more, we drove 6 hours for three nights and I'm so glad we did. Perfect mixture of wild camping with the perfect amount of comfort such as showers and sinks to wash up and the the nature was unreal. Thank you for much for having us, such a chill host, very fair pricing and welcoming!

Amazing place!

Amazing place! The view of the mountains from our tent was incredible! Local walks as well. We made an attempt to climb up Cadair Idris and got as far as the lake which wasn't bad for two novices! The weather was mixed. When it rained, it rained, but was always favourable when we wanted to get out and about. Would say more toilets and showers would be handy. But apart from that, an amazing experience!

Absolutely great

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

As someone returning to camping after many years, I was a bit apprehensive about the back to basics description of Cefn Coed. If this is basic then basic has improved in the last 20 years. Firstly the location is fantastic, nestled in a wooded valley with a river running through it, makes it a really tranquil place. 200 yards from the site is the Afon Mawddach estuary. The woodland pitches that follow the path to the estuary definitely offer a wild camping feel. Once at the estuary, turn right for the King George III pub or left towards Barmouth. Either way you get stunning views and plenty of wild life. We stayed on the main camping field where you pick your own pitch. The field is relatively flat and finding a decent spot is no problem. 100 yards from the field is the kitchen/toilet/shower block, which are clean and functional. Everyone connected to the site are very friendly and helpful. One thing I would recommend if you stay here is the Thai takeaway food. It's fantastic, if I was served it in a restaurant I'd be delighted. To get it delivered to your tent, piping hot after a long day hill walking was fantastic. Will definitely be booking again.

Loved it!

The site is absolutely stunning, easy to find and get to. The owner was really friendly and helpful. The Thai food served on site was fantastic. The only small complaint I would have is there are not enough toilet or showers for the site. I understand that's not a quick fix and we had also seen this on other reviews so we knew that going in. Everything else was perfect!

Excellent outdoor experience

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

A really great site, which offers a perfect blend of wild(ish) camping, with amenities such as showers, toilets and sinks to wash/wash-up. We stayed on the field, as the woodland pitches were unfortunately full, but the field had plenty of space and all of the tents and camper-vans were a good distance from each-other. A beautiful location, with the foothills of Cader Idris in view. Exploring the woods and the river that heads to estuary was really lovely, and the walk to Barmouth (about 90 mins) along the estuary path was terrific. Showers and toilet block was fine, a bit a queue at peak times, but that's to be expected during the main UK summer holidays.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Woodland Tent PitchesAug 2023

We had originally paid for a woodland pitch which was about £25 each. Having driven up to the main campsite building, we were excited looking at all the pitches. However, we were put on a over grown field (called the wetlands) away for all the other campsites which backed onto some very uneven woodland which you couldn't camp on. Considering we had paid for a woodland pitch and seen the pictures we were very disappointed. The field itself was about a 10 minute walk from the toilets / water facilities along a dark and very steep one way road which made us feel very unwelcome. The field they put us on was the field immediately adjacent to the road so throughout the evening we constantly heard cars/headlights driving past our tent. The location of the campsite was good however close to several good hikes and locations of interest. We would likely not visit again as what we had originally paid for was not what we were given, the toilet/water situation was even worse for the pitch we were shown.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Wooded Campervan PitchesJul 2023

I have recently converted my car into a micro-camper and we chose this site as our first outing. I travelled with my husband and young son. We were in "The Glen" pitch, which was beautiful. It was a multi-level pitch with an area of hardstanding for the car, a bark area for our awning and up a little bank there was a peaceful area to put our camp fire and seating. The site was so peaceful, each night we slept very well as everyone was quiet and there weren't many people walking around past our pitch, even though we were on the "main" road up to the loos. I was fully prepared for wild camping, having taken a small camping toilet with us, but this was not needed as the toilet block was only a short wander away. I was surprised that the toilets were unisex, but this didn't cause any issues. The shop on site was well stocked with everything you might need and might have forgotten. I would highly recommend this site and I plan on visiting again!

Me and my partner stayed here and we loved it! The views are stunning and the campsite its self is lovely. Nice welcome and everyone is respectful and cheerful. It gave such wildness feels and some lovely short and long walks close by. Pitch areas are very spacious and the forest camping looked amazing, will definitely be booking this next time! I only have positive comments on this place. Thank you for having us! We will be back

We loved this campsite, got the remoteness of wild camping whilst still having toilets and other facilities. Good to note there is NO phone signal whatsoever though, but once you get used to being completely off grid, it's lovely.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Woodland Tent PitchesJul 2023

A truly gorgeous place. It feels very secluded and our pitch felt very private. You really are in the middle of nature with birds, squirrels, and butterflies all paying visits to our camp. The showers and toilet block were kept clean and I had a hot shower each day. The washing-up area is an added bonus. A walk to the George pub was an easy and lovely walk along the estuary. Thoroughly recommend it for a Sunday roast. The site was mostly very quiet and the other campers polite and friendly. The downsides were that our pitch was a little on the small side despite being asked for our tent's dimensions (although I think you can pay for a larger pitch), and lack of rubbish disposal as that part of Wales seems to be lacking in public bins. But these are very minor gripes in what was otherwise a wonderful stay. Bonus points for being dog friendly.

Cracking site
