About Hennock Hideaways

Hennock Hideways is just inside Dartmoor National Park, about seven miles from the coast and a 15-minute drive to the infamous Haytor Rock. The site is popular with ramblers, cyclists and visitors seeking a secluded getaway to soak in the countryside, as well as families looking for a budget back-to-basics camping getaway. There are 20 non electric spacious grass pitches that each allow up to ten people, for tents only. Additionally, there are two glamping bell tents, each sleeping up to five people. Inside you'll find a double bed with bedding, towels for two, an extra double futon mattress, a projector, cooking utensils and crockery and a fridge and double ring gas hob. For those groups larger than two, you'll need to bring your own bedding. Outside the bell tents, you'll find your own fire pit, BBQ, private covered kitchen area and seating, perfect for dining al fresco on those warmer evenings. While the kids are doing endless and happily tiring laps around the Hennock camping field or playing in the play area, the big folk can get on with what's important in life, such as sparking up a campfire and cheerfully considering where to visit next on their Devon holiday. This site is a member of the Freedom Camping Club.

Open from 23 May to 22 September

A note from the site themselves...

Welcome to Hennock Hideaways—a hidden gem in the heart of Devon, where countryside charm meets camping comfort. Think rolling hills, fresh air, and a touch of quirky—where the simple life feels a little less simple (in a good way).

As a family with little ones of our own, we thought, "Why keep this spectacular view to ourselves?" So, we've thrown open our fields to those seeking a slice of countryside magic, complete with breathtaking views stretching across the Teign Valley to Haldon Forest.

Now, we're not exactly a working farm anymore—more like a "pointless smallholding" where three generations call home, including our dear Dad, who's as Devonian as clotted cream. If you catch him, you're in for a treat (just don't ask him about tractors).

We're always nearby, juggling the joys (and occasional chaos) of countryside life.

Pick a scenic pitch or snuggle up in one of our cosy glamping bell tents—both come with freedom, fresh air, and the occasional sheep spotting. Wash up in our charming "Tea Shed" (yes, even dishwashing has rustic vibes here), and pop by our honesty shop, stocked with essentials and open to cash or card.

Fancy a pub meal? Mosey down to the "Palk Arms" or wander one of the many footpaths to get lost (figuratively) in nature. The kids can run wild in the spacious field—bring your ball, kite, or just a good imagination. Arrive and pick your perfect spot.

Our weekends are made even better with hearty breakfasts and premium coffee (from the end of May to the end of August) because who doesn't need a caffeine boost before conquering the wild? Cap off your day by the campfire—fire pits and logs are ready and waiting.

There is a local park in the heart of Hennock village and three amazing reservoirs within a mile or two - one of which is a premier trout fly fishery. Pike fishing is also available, along with boat hire.

Two miles away is Bovey Tracey, a model national park town with a few quaint shops, food shops, a few more pubs, takeaways and a craft centre along with a lovely park that you can walk the River Teign by.

Dartmoor is the place to go for walking. Letterboxing is fun and the tor-to-tor walks are breathtaking. It doesn't hurt that Dartmoor ponies are also adorable.

Canonteign Falls (5 minute drive) is England's highest manmade waterfall (over 70m), and a magnificent example of a Victorian folly set in a magical natural paradise.

For the golfer, beginner or pro, Teign Valley Golf Club is also a ten minute drive. The 18 hole course at just over 6000 yards (par 70) is fast-draining and provides excellent all year round playability.

The coast is only seven miles away at Teignmouth, from where you can follow the coast to Torbay and the English Riviera all the way to Brixham.

Other local activities include horse riding, Go Ape and Segway at Haldon Forest, Paigtnon Zoo, Dartmoor Zoo and more!
