Things to do in Torquay
Torquay is a vibrant coastal town in Devon, situated on the English Riviera and known for its beaches. The town's excellent attractions, beautiful coastline and great holiday parks combine to make for a popular family destination - where better to go camping?
The harbour is a wonderful place to explore, with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as an intriguing variety of boats. A boat trip from the harbour and a ride on the English Riviera Wheel on the seafront will help set your sightseeing bearings.
Nature lovers will enjoy a trip across the bay to Paignton's zoo (where you can also enjoy dodgems on the pier). Follow that road through Brixham to the Berry Head nature reserve and take a stroll along the headland. You may be lucky enough to spot porpoise playing in the sea!
The Babbacombe Model Village is delightful and will appeal to younger and older visitors alike - and the village also boasts a beautiful beach and a cliff railway that provides superb views of the surrounding area.
Families will love stepping back in time at Torquay's Dinosaur World or exploring the rockpools at Meadfoot Beach and seeing the wonderful creatures at the Living Coasts zoo and aquarium. A tour of the prehistoric caves known as Kents Caverns is also not to be missed. It's sure to wow visitors of all ages.
Historical attractions include Torre Abbey Historic House and Gardens, Torquay Museum and Bygones which includes a Victorian street, model railway and WWI trench. The Agatha Christie Mile is a nice stroll for fans looking to retrace her steps and explore the area that so inspired her.
Torquay has great nightlife entertainment too, with three excellent theatres and plenty of pubs and restaurants to give you a night on the town.
Other interesting places to visit nearby include the picturesque village of Cockington and the beautiful Cockington Country Park. Nearby Brixham and Paignton are popular too, while the excellent beaches in Tor Bay will entice people who are keen to relax by the seaside.
