Red Squirrel Campsite is perfect for families, adventure seekers and hikers. Wild open pitches allow you to have the freedom to pick and choose your pitch. There is a pub just a 15 minute walk from the site. Either a short drive, or woodland walk into the village are a few more restaurants and a local shop.

Small Tent - Non Electric Wild PitchesMay 2024

The place is wonderful, people respected the schedule (10pm quiet time). Very kind service, nice contact with the staff. Maybe difficult to find pitch when you come back at the end of the afternoon and the new campers have arrived. Luckily we had a tent, but they were 2 times someone had parked in front of our tent with their campervan. There was a lack of showers. Maybe a 2d sanitary block could be nice in another place as there were lots of people and it was dirty quickly. For the price, for us, the difference was real : 4 nights camping elsewhere was £92, 4 nights in Red Squirrel was £120 with the same service and beauty of the site. Thank you.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Wild PitchesMay 2024

Beautiful site, right next to the river, and with the mountains all around. Lots of birds (cuckoos and owls, while we were there) and deer, as well as the site kitten. Reception was helpful, and have facilities for hiring wood burners with logs, as well as chargers for phones, iPads etc. Only thing that would improve it would be a toilet/shower block at the other end of the site. A catering van provides hot food at the weekends, but apart from that the only eating places are a couple of miles away.

A fantastic site, in an amazing location supported by great staff. Everyone was helpful, facilities were clean, water was hot. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a "back to nature" experience. An abundance of fire pits and available wood. The site had a great vibe. Will be returning for sure.

This was the best campsite we stayed at on our trip! Everything was top-notch: beautiful pitches, a stunning and convenient location, lots of walks in the area, clean amenities, and very helpful and friendly staff. Watching Noodle the cat scamper around was the cherry on top. Would stay again in a heartbeat and will be recommending Red Squirrel to anyone camping in the Glencoe area!

Absolute gem of a campsite. The location is in one of the most awe-inspiring places on the planet and the campsite manages to provide everything that is needed, whilst still retaining the wild beauty of its surroundings. Staff very friendly and helpful, facilities clean and the water hot! There are fire pit locations and water points for fabulous fresh mountain spring water dotted around the site and even a super friendly campsite cat called Noodle! I am sure we'll be returning. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Stayed for 2 nights with my grandson. The whole site is set out beautifully to accommodate everyone, no matter how you are camping. Surrounded by stunning snow capped mountains. The birds singing, woodpeckers, owl's having a chat at night all adds to the sense of the outdoors. The amenities are great with plenty of showers/toilets. Washing machine & tumble dryer available also. Go see the lads at the burger bar. Great food, friendly & very welcoming. Overall, my first stay & not the last. Thank you to everyone who works hard to make it a success ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had a great time here. The facilities were brilliant and because it was off-season and the site was so large, we were able to pitch up in a nice quiet corner by the stream and let our dog have a great time in the water!

Medium Tent - Non Electric Wild PitchesOct 2023

Phenomenal! Immediately upon entering the campsite we were welcomed with open arms and huge smiles (the ex-military trucks covered in mud probably helped a little - we make an impression most places we go). The guys welcoming us couldn't do more to help - they explained where everything was, where we could camp and wished us well. The facilities were surprisingly good. You kinda expect a bit of muck in campsite showers/toilets but I bumped into the cleaning ladies several times when I went to the toilet - they were extremely friendly and kept the place spotless considering. The showers were warm (very welcomed!) and clean. Location was just stunning, in the middle of a few mountains with walks surrounding it and only minutes from a local village. Most attractions within an hour, including the Harry Potter steam train bridge. We were originally only booked for 2 nights, but within minutes we decided to change our whole holiday plans and stayed 4 nights in total. Super easy to arrange this extension too. Honestly - cannot recommend enough, we will be returning! Oh, and the sunrise over the mountains with their little stream - just glorious!

Red Squirrel combines the fun and freedom of wild camping with the safety and ease of a campsite just perfectly. The toilets/ shower blocks were the best I've seen on a UK campsite and Liam made us feel so genuinely welcome and cared for! Will definitely be back!

Site's response

THANK YOU! Thank you so much for the review. Our team strive to keep our site looking tip top and your review says that, which I am so pleased about. Will pass on the review to Liam as well. Hope to have you stay again, Sandi.

Shame that I only stayed one night, but I'll be definitely adding this to my favourites. What an amazing site. So many variations of pitch, the river is beautiful. The facilities are clean and endless. Even a snack truck. Everybody was friendly and amazing. Thank you for making a solo woman traveller welcome & comfortable.

Fantastic location. Friendly helpful staff. Quiet throughout the week but got a bit lively with the weekend crowd on the Friday night. Great site if you are bringing your dogs.

We do ensure that all guests are given a card on arrival with our site number which is 24/7 answered. Hopefully that hasn't put you off coming to stay with us again. See you soon, Sandi.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Wild PitchesAug 2023

Set in a beautiful area in Glencoe, Red Squirrel is fantastically located. The children loved being next to the river and we were able to pick our own pitch, which was nice. The staff are very relaxed and this is a proper campsite. Our pitch had plenty of room, set amongst trees with the surrounding mountains, and next to the river, perfect. Only downside is the site seems quite pricy, £72 for a pitch for 2 nights. Maybe it's just me remembering the good old days when was it was £5 a night to camp? The showers were clean in the afternoon but being a busy site, they did get dirty and also, one was out of action, which meant we were waiting for showers. Once in the shower, it was either really hot or freezing, no in-between. The ice cream truck coming at night was nice and they also have a burger van but it wasn't open when we were there. The shop could also maybe sell beer 🤣 Overall, I'd definitely return. Lovely site.

Site's response

Thanks for your review, we really appreciate the time you took to write it. Sadly, as with everything, prices reflect the economy, but I am not sure Red Squirrel has ever been £5 a night? Our facilities are kept to a high standard and are checked regularly. We do understand that they can get a bit dirty but we also expect other guests to be considerate when using them and to clean up after themselves. We also don't sell beer or any alcohol as there is a pub up the road and we don't have a licence to sell. Pleased your stay was ok, and that you will return (BYOB) :) Sandi.

Great stay, wonderful location, friendly staff and good facilities. An all round great stay. We had a bad winds one of the nights, very high gusts and the staff came round getting everyone into our vehicles or to shelter until a storm had passed. Great effort guys and gals and thank for a memorable stay and we will return. Thanks very much.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Wild PitchesAug 2023

A well appointed site with basic facilities and friendly staff. It's a wild site (no set pitches) so there's usually plenty of space to spread out. There's a small food van permanently based on site that opens for breakfast (08:00-10:00) and dinner (17:00-21:00) which was served tasty food and drinks. There's also a couple of restaurants within an hour walk of the site. Plenty of showers and toilets which though busy, I didn't have to queue for. They were fairly clean and the showers are served by electric showers, which means there was no risk of running out of hot water at peak times. Worth noting, though it it had no effect on our visit, there is pretty poor mobile signal (O2 and 3) and no Wi-Fi provision site-wide. You can pickup free BT Wi-Fi at reception though. All in all, a great couple of days, though in true highlands fashion the weather was 'changeable' (it rained more than it didn't!). We would love to visit again!

Site's response

Thank you for the great review. We really appreciate the time you took to write about us. Pleased everything was great for you (apart from the phone signal). Hope to see you again soon, Sandi.
