Great basic site which price reflected - motorhome pitch had electric and water hook up where we had to pay extra for water hook up at other sites. Everything we needed for our stay, close to road which quietened in the evening, lovely walks in the local area, next door to super friendly/good food pub, bus stop very close for easy transport to the lakes.
Lovely last minute break

Great little site, pitches were fine with lovely views. Near a road, but didn't bother us at all, especially for the price. The toilets were very clean. The bloke who runs it is very knowledgeable and interesting. Added bonus of a great pub next door, lovely beer garden and good food. Would definitely return.
Great stay in the Lakes!

The site was easy to find and in good location for stunning views and on bus route to Keswick and other towns. Pub next door to site too. We upgraded to EHU last minute with no problems.

For a quick stop off, then this site is fine. Very friendly. It is by a busy road but that didn't bother us, the view behind was beautiful. Showers were what I expected for a farm. Water was hot so that's the main thing. There was a lot of work being done which I we didn't know about, so piles of rubble and workmen about. The 10 mile walk around Thirlmere Lake was brilliant and literally just had to cross the road to start the walk and with the pub next door, perfect for a drink to recover when we got back. I would stay again if passing.

Basic but serviceable site. The pitches are quite rough with patchy grass and gravel/hardstanding and some big holes that fill up in the rain, so you may need to use levelling blocks and take care when walking to the facilities at night. Shower block was clean with two toilets and two showers in the male block, though the shower heads were very low down. No mobile phone reception on several networks in the area, though free Wi-Fi is available at the pub next door which does decent food with sizeable portions.

Stayed with caravan and our experience was exactly what we paid for. Owner pleasant. Great location for getting out and walking. Fantastic pub at the side! Just don't pull up to the farm, just turn right onto the field once arrived. This will save the turn around in the farm yard. Thank you!

Lovely central location, so not too far from all the main walks. Easy to find from the North. The site is right next to a main road, so if you’re a light sleeper, it might not be the best. Traffic quietened down about 10ish. Not a problem for me, and the facilities, customer service and views were worth it. No signal, but also not a problem, as it was nice to get away. Pub right next door was lovely, good food and great wifi.

Excellent location for Grasmere, Ambleside and Keswick. The site itself is lovely and quiet well ran and spotlessly clean, although it's next to the main road you soon get used to the traffic noise. The shower block is clean and has good hot showers. Brilliant stay, thank you!

Ideal location for all of the main lakes, or for those who like walking. Friendly and pleasant site, next to the main road so can be noisy but not a problem. Next to a good pub.

Excellent small flat campsite right next door to a wonderful pub. Ideal spot for walking up Helvellyn. Facilities are clean with good water pressure in the showers. Only thing I would highlight is that the shower heads are fixed very low and aim too close to the wall and the hot water is extremely hot, to the point of near scalding.

Great location! At the foot of Helvellyn, close to Blencathra and Skiddaw for hiking. Grasmere and Ambleside are just down the road and Keswick is 10 mins in the other direction. It was a perfect location for our weekend in the hills. Electric hook up for our VW T5 camper. Basic, but clean facilities. I took ear plugs so wasn't bothered by any noise from the road, and my partner wasn't either without ear plugs. We had dinner at the pub next door on all 3 nights, which was great for both service and food. I would definitely stay here again.

It was a lovely, small campsite with access to beautiful walks nearby. The only downside was how close it was to the road. Great pub next door!

Superb position in next to Thirlmere Waters and walks up into the hills. Not far from Helvelyn. All basic facilities with no frills. Very friendly owner.

Great for scenery and walking. It's a farm - no frills and near a road. Liked the pub. Service and food was good, but you need to book in advance.

Thirlspot Farm is in a brilliant location for exploring the Lake District. The walks from the farm are spectacular. Our pitch was hardstanding, although only the area our van was actually standing on was hardstanding - our awning was on was grass which was quite uneven making it difficult to sit our chairs on. It also got very 'boggy' after quite a downpour. The facilities were clean although did run out of tissue paper. That was soon replenished when reported. The 2 showers for each ladies and gents were adequate and always had plenty of hot water. In my opinion the bins should have been emptied more frequently, as it was quite difficult trying to fit in a small amount of daily rubbish. The site is right on the Windermere-Keswick bus route, which is quite a busy road. That didn't bother us too much as we were out for most of the day and the road quietened in the evening. The Kings Head pub is right next door to the farm and is great for either just a drink or a meal, though I'd recommend booking.

Hello, we have a contract with Biffa to empty the bins, they empty them on a scheduled basis. The weekend you came was a very busy bank holiday jubilee weekend. Any rubbish was dealt with straight away.

We enjoyed our stay here. It’s a small site, very quiet and with all the facilities you need for a weekend away. Ideal location for getting out hiking in the local area. Also the pub next door ideal for a nice meal after a long day of walking! The owner was friendly and accommodating.

A very wet day, but the facilities and pub next door brightened our day. Fantastic walks and my wife thoroughly enjoyed helping with the lamb feeding.

Stayed here for three nights, I found that the site was very close to main road and pitches were all in one long line, so had a car park feel. However, it was in a good location for climbing Helvellyn. More suited to a one night stay site as there was no phone signal and no internet. Nice pub next door. Manhole cover had to be lifted for chemical disposal into the main sewer, which we had not come across at other sites.
Site's response
I'm sorry to see the 1 star rating for what we offer, which seems to typically appeal to the majority of our visitors. We are in a beautiful, escape the hustle of town, countryside setting, so don't have a Wi-Fi & telephone signal. Regarding the waste disposal, our prices per night are literally half that of some other sites in the area, and we do not get many complaining about anything we have or do not have. We offer a place ideally located for hiking, lake visits, or resting point between day trip locations.
