We had two nights here and were welcomed to the field and told where we could choose to pitch, as some already reserved. Stayed up the top of the field and had a great unspoilt view of the surrounding countryside. No shade though, but found some with our picnic rug down by the lake (after finding a spot with no geese poo - lots of geese on the lake - beautiful setting down there and soo peaceful Loved having a campfire, and they even had ice we could buy to keep our coolbox cool. Loved the open-topped showers, we were there during the heatwave - maybe not soo wonderful if cold!! Couldn't fault our stay there - even a visiting ice cream van on sat late afternoon! If you want a basic site, with gorgeous surroundings, then this is the place. Barcombe Mills nearby, we rented a boat for an hour, swam in the river and had lunch at the Anchor pub - although was very mediocre food for the price - would prob take a picnic if done again!
What a lovely place!

A beautiful campsite with excellent facilities. Lots of great walks and lovely woodland area for kids to explore. Great for families and dogs. Lots of wildlife around so feel very immersed in nature. Friendly owner who can help with firewood and suggestions for local attractions. We'll be going back!

Great little campsite. Spent two nights here. Philip, the owner, is very welcoming and accommodating. Visited Ashdown Forest and Pooh Bridge during the day, which was lovely.

A very quiet place only disturbed by the ducks and geese above going to the lake. Only thing for me, a lover of music, was their strict rules on that. Apart from that, very good really. Basic amenities, hot water on tap, and surrounded by alpaca's, llama's and two camels!
Site's response
Thank you for your review. The wildlife is beyond our control and as we are a rural setting, it's part and parcel of where we are! As for the music, this something again that is beyond our control as it was a planning requirement set by our local planning department. We do though make it clear early on that is the case.

Lovely campsite. Basic facilities, but all you need. There are camels, alpacas and llamas, what's not to like?

I had the whole field to myself so all I could hear was owls, woodpeckers, blackbirds, sheep and distant aircraft. Lovely place to stay. If you want affordable basic camping, this is perfect!

Set away from roads and surrounded by fields and trees- the perfect place for a simple break to recharge the batteries, and enjoy the sound of birds. Great walks from the site too and a nice pub a 10 min walk away across the fields.

Lovely site, busy weekend with lots of families staying but never overcrowded. The owner introduced himself made us feel welcome, and was frequently on site. A highlight was an excellent pint of IPA at the pop up bar at sunset and the rare sight of two Sussex camels. Thoroughly recommended and we will certainly return.

Great rural location which is ideal for camping. Big pitches. Basic facilities but ideal if you aren't expecting luxury. Made to feel welcome and near to very good pub (5 Bells). Likely to go again

A quiet site with generous sized pitches by a beautiful lake. We enjoyed sitting by the campfire and watching the stars. The children loved being wild in the woodland area and swinging on the rope swings. Facilities were basic but everything you needed.

I cannot put into words how great our experience was at Tomkins Farm. I stayed with a group of friends for just one night. Unfortunately, my car broke down on the camp site and the owner was incredibly nice and considerate about the whole thing. They made sure we didn't worry about it by letting us stay past the sign out time. The site itself is beautiful and the animals added a great touch to it. A main worry of mine was what the smell would be like, but the animals are kept a good distance away so that isn't an issue. Toilets were immaculate and the owner made sure to check on us frequently, but not persistently, to make sure everything was okay. I cannot recommend this place more, when I get my car fixed I will for sure be coming back.

A pleasant site with a very visible and helpful owner. The pop up bar on Saturday night and the breakfast vans over the week-end were a pleasant surprise. Overall it was an enjoyable stay and I would certainly use the site again.

We had a very peaceful overnight stay at Tomkins farm. The facilities were basic, but clean and tidy. The only criticism would be not providing any type of rubbish/recycling bins for campers to use. Log burners were supplied, but unfortunately due to the wet weather we didn't use ours. Large pitches and you can pitch where you like which was good. We walked to the local pub for dinner (the 5 Bells) which was very nice and only took 15 mins, (take a torch if it's going to be dark on your return, as no street lighting) We will definitely be back for another visit! The only criticism would be not providing any type of rubbish/recycling bins for campers to use .

Simple back to basics camping. Great stargazing when the sky’s clear given the proximity to London, etc. Nice, easy walks to local village or pubs. Also has popup food trucks and pub at peak times. The host Philip is amazing, very welcoming and always happy for a chat during his evening log delivery. Plus there’s alpacas, llamas and camels!

We had an excellent one night stay at Tomkins. The site was nicely spaced out with fire pits for all. Hot water showers and clean toilets. The location and setting cannot be faulted. Most importantly, Phillip was an excellent host and was a pleasure to chat to. Couldn't have asked for more. We will return!

This was our second time staying here and was just as lovely as we remembered from last year! The man who runs it was very helpful and pointed us in the direction of a place called Barcombe Mill, where we went paddle boarding. The facilities have even been upgraded since we last stayed and is way more spacious and you don't have to worry about your clothes getting wet in the shower anymore! They even have proper loos now! Thank you, we will definitely be back!!
