About Badgells Wood Camping

If you're looking for somewhere off-grid in a stunning woodland setting, look no further. Once the site of a WWII training ground, you'll be nestled amongst ancient woodland so be sure to head out and explore this beautiful landscape. Easily accessed from either the M20 or the M2/A2. The site is under 2.5 miles from the turning off the A227, between Meopham and Wrotham. Pitches are spread across the woods, ensuring that you feel as though you're camping on your own amongst nature. Rest up in the Bluebell Camping area deep in the woods or park up at the Tudor Springs area - ideal for families. Pitches include handy fixed fire pits. For glampers, there are cheery bell tents with solar lighting sleeping either five (for families) or four (adults only) with comfy beds, chair beds and futons supplied inside. Each has kitchen supplies such as a kettle, camping stove and cooking utensils, pans etc. Please bring bedding such as duvets, pillows, sleeping bags and towels with you. Dogs are also welcome with campers but must be on a lead when not near your pitch. Sorry, dogs cannot stay in the bell tents.

Open from 1 April to 30 October

FAQ

You are welcome to check-in from 2pm and must be checked in by 6pm Monday to Thursday, 7pm on a Friday, 6pm on a Saturday and 5pm on a Sunday. Check out is by 11am on the day on your departure.

Dogs are welcome on the regular camping pitches, but please make sure they are well behaved. If you come with a dog, the site can help by providing you with some biodegradable poo bags and ask that you please ensure to clean up after your four-legged friends. The site do also ask that dogs be kept on a lead when not at your pitch. Friendly dog breeds are requested to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for all. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the bell tents.

Each pitch is supplied with a firepit. The site do also sell seasoned firewood onsite and asks you only use this due to the risk of using firewood from elsewhere. Please also do not take deadwood from around your pitch as this is vital for the local wildlife.

Some of the pitch areas can accommodate up to three families all together but let the site know beforehand to ensure you are all together.

The site really encourages a digital detox from the outside world so there is no WiFi available onsite.

If the kids are getting restless, let them run wild in the woodland playground as they launch themselves on the rope swing or try and build a little den of their own with the sticks lying around the site.

In the evening, cook up your dinner on a campfire and toast marshmallows with the kids or hone your skills at one of the bushcraft courses that are on offer every weekend. If you're a first time camper, take one of the beginner sessions while the more experienced can try out an intermediate class.

Learn how to light your campfire, find out more about traps and snares and have a go at aiming for a bullseye in an archery session.

You can also make the most of the site's location by exploring the ancient woodland - once the site of an old WWII training ground! You're also free to explore the 250 acres of Whitehorse Wood with many nature trails and footpaths along some of the most popular routes within the Kent Downs AONB.
