Things to do in Morecambe
Morecambe is a classic English seaside town - one that wouldn't look out of place in the silent films of days gone by. Much of the town is set around the award-winning seafront promenade that overlooks the five mile stretch of sandy coastline. Looking out from the sands of Morecambe Bay you have stunning views of the Lakeland Fells in the distance, smoky and blue on the horizon.
Morecambe’s charming promenade and beaches are the place for traditional seaside fun, or for lovers of the great outdoors to enjoy the unique beauty of Morecambe Bay. The bay is as wide as the eye can see, decorated with tidal sand and mud flats. Stroll the boards, nibble something sweet and look out over the waves.
Just up the road lies Happy Mount Park, where family-friendly attractions complement the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity of a traditional park. Swingboats, mini golf, trampolines, a miniature train, a splash park and a zip wire will keep the kids amused while you enjoy the park’s landscaped surroundings.
Regent Park and the West End Gardens also offer places to walk, relax and have fun. The gardens come into their own at sunset as rosy light glows across the bay, but during the day they're the perfect shady retreat.
Don’t forget to visit the iconic Eric Morecambe Statue, which looks out across the promenade, in one of his characteristic poses with a pair of binoculars around his neck. The statue and the arena below it are equally sensational at night, when glowing lights bathe the area and give it a Hollywood feel.
And, of course, there’s the 1930s Midland Hotel, an art deco masterpiece which has been lovingly restored in recent years. Enjoy an afternoon tea overlooking the panorama of the bay.
The beautiful Winter Gardens, were once the scene of entertainment royalty and continue to be renovated by the dedicated band of trustees - who have given the listed building grace and space to host more superb acts. The Morecambe Heritage Centre situated on the promenade will have you delving into the golden days of Morecambe's past as you explore its memorabilia.
For rainy-day entertainment we’ve got you covered... visit the Reel Cinema, conveniently situated right next to the seafront. In the evening, The Platform is the place to go to take in a theatre show, comedy gig or concert.
One the kids will love is the Jump Rush Trampoline Centre, where the skies the limit and there are even free bouncing sessions.
Morecambe is ideally situated and provides an excellent base for exploring the historic market town of Lancaster and the Lune Valley as well as the beautiful Lake District.
