Things to do in Bristol
Bristol is a popular and bustling city, filled with superb attractions that make it a great getaway destination for young and older alike.
The River Avon flows through the city and there's a lot of fun to be had exploring the city's water-based attractions. A trip to Brunel's SS Great Britain offers an insight into the fascinating history of the ship - billed as the ship that changed the world! Exploring the Bristol City Docks and taking a waterbus are both fun ways to spend the time, while a stroll across The Downs to Clifton Suspension Bridge is offers magnificent views.
The city isn't lacking when it comes to impressive architecture either. St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol Cathedral, as well as the tight spiral staircase to the top of Cabot Tower (with superb panoramic views) and Wills Memorial Tower are all well worth exploring.
There's also a diverse selection of museums, educational attractions and art galleries during your visit, such as the At-Bristol Science Centre, the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and M Shed, which tells the story of the city's history.
Bristol Zoo Gardens is excellent and offers a wild day out for animal lovers of all ages, while the pretty University of Bristol Botanic Garden is a pleasant place to explore at a more leisurely pace.
If you come in August, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is quite a sight. If the sun shines, relax at Clifton Lido, or get active with a visit to the world's largest indoor trampolining park, Airhop!
Slightly further afield visitors can take in the picturesque sights within the Mendip Hills AONB as well as Ashton Court, while the striking city of Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an enticing day trip option too.
For beaches, Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon and Burnham-on-Sea are within an hour's drive.
