About The Hide Camping and Glamping

With its very own birdwatching facilities, this off-grid small camping and glamping site in Pembrokeshire encourages campers to embrace the wild. The wooded area opens out into a peaceful field of spacious tent pitches. Each premium camping pitch has self-contained facilities comprising of an al fresco hot private shower, clean composting toilet, and fully covered kitchenette. The site also offers standard camping pitches with easy access to shared facilities close by. These spacious designated mown pitches are located in a meadow and each pitch has its own garden area as well as lots of space on site to explore. If you're more glamper than a camper, you'll be pleased to know that the site also offers two luxury geodomes for hire. Additional features include a covered kitchenette, fully kitted out with crockery, cutlery and pots and pans etc, a clean compost toilet and a hot shower. A decking area comes complete with a picnic table, campfire and BBQ grill. You'll also be greeted with a welcome hamper and logs for your first fire. Additional logs can be purchased onsite. In keeping with the off-grid vibe, the domes have solar lighting and fairy lights but no electricity sockets, so bring power banks for devices if necessary. The site does not allow vehicles on the camp field, there is a designated parking area close by. With very few pitches, you'll never feel crowded here. Spend time in the bird hide for a chance to see woodpeckers, badgers snuffling around under the feeders after dark, or head to the beach just a few minutes walk away. In the evening, enjoy stargazing with minimal light pollution whilst sitting around your cosy campfire. Is it time to hide away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (Ensuite)Aug 2024

We had a fantastic week at the Hide. As others have said, this really is the most lovely site I've been to. We booked a deluxe pitch with a kitchen shack, gas-fired shower and compost loo, which was fantastic, and meant that it was just a lot easier to cook, especially when the weather was bad. The site is small with only 4 deluxe pitches and 3 without, but it has been designed so that each pitch really has their own space, with wild nature areas in between. We had Oak Beauty, which overlooks the sea. The pitch comes with a picnic table, but other tables have been put around just to enjoy the lovely views. The site was very quiet, most of the time, there was just us and 1-2 other tents. There's a spacious field the other side of a hedge for campervans, but again, I think only 3 pitches on it and mostly only one there. Up some wooden steps there's a field with views over the hills with 2 glamping domes which look lovely. Although there's lots of areas left for nature, there's a strip which is mown that the boys used to play cricket and football every day. Otherwise, I kept them active outside a lot with a visit to Pembroke Castle, which has a great tour included in the price and plenty to look at indoors if the weather is bad. Swimming in the cove down the (steep!) road, body boarding at Whitesands in St David's, where both wetsuits and body boards can be hired very cheaply (£5/6 per hour, but they seem relaxed about the length of an hour, or £12 all day, the wetsuits are all warm at 4/3 thickness, wetsuits recommended if you want to stay in for longer than 15 minutes as the sea was still quite cold in August). Visiting the reconstructed iron age hill fort just outside Newport village. Hanger 5 trampoline centre (good for a properly wet day, an extra hour is £5), and the highlight of my visit was hiring Henry for rock climbing at Wolf's Rock in Wolf Castle, which was great for all of us despite different ages and experience (£150 for 3 hours for up to 4 people). Other things which seem great but we didn't have time for are Coasteering (lots of options which seem to range in price from £35-45/3 hr session per person, the escape rooms at St David's (which are unusually cheap), hiring canoes or paddleboard to explore the coast, or going to any of the places like Folly Farm where you stay for the day. A big highlight was Morfa's Milk parlour on the road to Fishguard, where you can buy glass 1ltr bottles for £2, which can then be filled with fresh milk from a vending machine, with the option to add flavoured syrups to make milkshake. We drank a lot of milk! There were loads of spare ice packs in the solar powered chest freezer at the site to keep it cool. Basically, I'd really recommend this as a place to stay, even if you have 3 boys (14, 13, 9) who need a lot of activity!

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Campervan PitchesAug 2023

Great view of the sea from our pitch. Loved that we had a fire pit (toasted marshmallows) and picnic table. Facilities are rudimentary but the ethos is great. Good instructions for the compost loos and showers. Would have liked hot water for washing up. Lovely walk down to the beach. Quick response to questions. Overall a quiet, getting away from it site, with a great view.

A real gem

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesAug 2023

The Hide is one of the best campsites we've ever booked. It is in the most spectacular setting, with an unbelievable view of the ocean. The owners have laid it out superbly, with so much care and attention that there is nothing to fault. Each pitch is spaced out and has it's own little fire pit/BBQ and picnic bench. There is plenty of space to play badminton, have a kick around or play swing ball - all provided by the owners for the guests to enjoy. The site is lovely and quiet and you can hear birdsong all day long. The owners have built a bird hide in front of their bird feeders, so you can also enjoy the feeding frenzy during daylight hours. Showers are hot, compost loos are clean and the washing up area is undercover. It only takes 10 minutes to walk down to the lovely little bay, which is the perfect spot for an early morning dip or late afternoon swim. Whilst we had quiet a bit of rain during our stay, the evenings were sunny, so the stroll and swim in the bay was the perfect way to end each day before heading back to the site for a hot shower and a BBQ. We can't recommend this site enough and will be back for sure. Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful campsite.
