Very convenient for Hook Norton and the brewery. The Gate Hangs High has a good selection of beers, very tasty food and friendly staff. Also dog friendly. Only downside is there is no hardstanding pitches so it's difficult in wet weather. But we will be back!

Where do I begin!! From the food, campsite and the people we loved every part of our stay!! Never felt so welcome in a place! We will be back for sure and we can't wait to see what they have in store to do with the place!! LOVED the stay!!! Even got to listen to live music with a pint and enjoyed a tractor race!!

It was pouring with rain when we arrived quite late in the afternoon. Got chatting to a lovely guy in the car park who turned out to be one of the owners. He let us tick into the corner of the car park overnight as lees chance of getting stuck. Are in the pub. Food was AMAZING! Lovely staff. Sadly I didn't get the name of our little waitress but she was great. Would go back.

The Gate Hangs High. Great friendly campsite

We stayed here on a soggy day, which exposed the challenge of the grass pitches. Most have EHU but the ground was very soft. It's been taken over fairly recently and a lot of work has been done to the pub and outside drinking areas. The facilities for the campsite have yet to be improved and included 1 shower with toilet and 1 additional toilet. The hot water was incredibly hot and difficult to adjust, we did raise this with the owners who were going to have this fixed. Lovely pub and food (dirty steak fries a big hit with us). Would recommend in dry weather :)

An ideal place for an excellent dinner with great food and service. The camping field and facilities are basic but clean with plenty of room to pitch where you like. The pub garden will be perfect in the summer with lots of tables and new Aunt Sally pitches.

Motorhome - Electric Grass PitchesApr 2024

We had a great 2 nights Saturday to Monday. Easy to find and well-situated on the side of the road, with a nice big car park. Go into the bar area to be greeted by Kate & her team. We had already pre-booked and paid via the campsite app, so we simply chose our spot with electric. When all set up, we walked up to the local village. It was a 30 minutes walk to The Hook Brewery, which was wow, absolutely stunning and we had pre-booked a tour. Then back to the Gate Hangs High for drinks & food before the evenings entertainment, The Inflatables Ska band. They were brilliant doing 2, 1hr sets. Weather wasn't kind, but everyone made the most of it. On the Sunday we went out for another walk through the village then back to the Gate Hangs High for our pre-booked Sunday lunch. Again, a warm welcome, a drink from the bar and then seated for our lunch. We had Beef & Pork loin with lovely roasted veg & the most amazing cauliflower cheese with mustard in it, yum yum!! Then I had to have the pudding of course!! This was apple & blueberry crumble with custard, which was a big portion & very tasty. All the food was freshly cooked & served to us with a smile. We then went back to our motorhome, chilled for the evening and then had a nice quiet nights sleep. I will say on the Monday morning you could hear the trucks at the skip company leaving at 7-7.30am. Though this didn't bother us at all, as it's a Monday and people need to go to work. Thank you Kate & team, we will definitely return to your lovely pub.

The couple have only been there a few months, but are having a lot of work done. So although there were workmen and machinery about, it did not interfere with our stay. They have an excellent chef and the food is very good. Didn't use showers or toilets as we have our own, but couples we spoke to said these were very good. Would definitely stop again.

Wow, what can we say. Nigel, Kate, Brett and all the fantastic team made us feel super welcome. They always had time to stop and chat, they bent over backwards to ensure the stay was great. This pub and campsite are going places, no doubt we will be going back!

Had a lovely overnight stay in the field. Great weather, lovely views. The site would benefit from having pitch markers to avoid neighbours parking too close to each other, for safety and privacy reasons. Could also do with a couple more water points. Great pub, and fantastic food. Brett and team were lovely.

Handy but needs improvements

When we arrived at the campsite, I went into the pub to ask what pitch we were on, the man replied "anywhere". When we got onto the field, all the electric hook ups were either taken, or blocked by cars. We had to park at the bottom of the field but we had paid for electric. On our second night, we found an electric hook up, but then proceeded to be blocked in by our neighbours cars. Toilets aren't signposted well and not clean. The campsite was very handy, I just wish it was more organised with allocated bays for people who have paid.

Cheap but basic site

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesApr 2024

Busy site with constant traffic. No curfew so noise continued late into evening, including vehicles and motorcycles. I did not think the toilets and showers were cleaned all weekend. No fire pits or wood available and no guidance upon arrival, just told to 'crack on'. Pub was very good with brilliant food but would stay at a different campsite if coming again.

Cheap and cheerful

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesApr 2024

We had a lovely stay at this campsite, especially for the price. It could be improved slightly by some signposts to indicate where the toilets/shower facilities are (I still didn't manage to find the shower). Our stay was dampened slightly by some others not obeying the campsite rules, letting their dogs off lead and waking up to some dog mess outside our tent, which didn't belong to our dogs. Ample car parking facilities, actual field is kept neat and tidy with grass cut short. Looking out over the cattle was nice too. Lights from the industrial area behind were on throughout the night. The staff were super friendly and helpful though, and it wouldn't put me off coming again. They were super informative about local attractions and the area itself is beautiful. Roads leading up to the site have quite a few potholes though so drive carefully on approach! They came around each morning to collect any rubbish you had and stopped for a chat. Overall I would recommend this campsite, the food in the pub looked amazing too.

Great value & very friendly!!

Fabulous welcome. Very laid back. The staff and fellow campers were super friendly!! The only slight niggle was the loo was not kept very clean or stocked. May have been an oversight, as apart from that it's highly recommended!!

Very noisy

Ok, so the good stuff. There is a really friendly pub with great food at the location. The owner plans to expand this to create outside music events, which could be lots of fun. However, this seems to attract noisy groups, so sleep isn't easy. The site is next to a busy road and next to a waste site, with continuous visits by skip lorries, so it is really noisy. The facilities are restricted, we found one outside loo but no shower and not especially clean. We had an okay stay but probably wouldn't return.

Great meal and nice site

Nice site and a good pub. Not much else there to walk to, but the Hook Norton brewery is a good place to visit.

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Grass PitchesApr 2024

There had been a lot of rain prior to our visit and the site was quite slippery and muddy. As it is also a pretty sloping site, levelling blocks are essential. It proved really difficult to get on to the blocks and get level, but of course the site can't be blamed for the awful weather we'd had! The other real problem is that the site is literally next door to a huge plant and skip hire yard. They start very early in the morning - just before 6.00am and the noise of the vehicles is really very intrusive if you're still trying to sleep! The pub is very nice although we didn't manage to eat there. The only day that would have suited us to eat in the pub, they were fully booked. The folks that run the pub (and also own and run the skip site), are lovely and very obliging. The facilities weren't great. The loo inside the pub, which most of the time was accessible, is fine but the other toilet and shower facilities are basic (putting it mildly). Whilst the value for money was ok, it's not a site that we will be rushing back to and I can only recommend it to very heavy sleepers, with all their own facilities, in good weather.

The location was ideal. Unfortunately, after all the rain, the field was really soft and having tried to get on it and got stuck, I ended up parking in the car park for the night. The washroom facilities were well used by others so it was a case of "only touch what is necessary". The pub itself had a great atmosphere and the food was amazing and they were more than happy to make any food choice as a takeaway.

Absolutely can't fault our stay here. Pub was awesome, superb food, great staff and felt welcomed the moment we walked in. Despite the wet conditions on the ground, they have done a great job. Thanks to Nigel for pulling us out 😀 Your family are an absolute credit. Try the brewery, castle, fine distillery and pottery pad. With in walking distance. Hook Norton is a fabulous village. Support local business and have a look.

Absolutely wonderful pub, real ales and great food. Great landlord and hard working team - great service. Camping field was very wet due to weather so we were able to park in the car park which is quite large. Walking from the site is along country roads but not too far to Hook Norton with wonderful walks all around. Very peaceful at night and amazing clear sky to see the stars. Limited number of toilet/shower facilities and as the main camping loo is a shower and can get a bit of a queue when someone has a shower. Had a fabulous stay very dog friendly.
