Your experience starts even before you arrive, with a very friendly, informative email from the owners telling you your pitch number. They're also really quick to answer any emailed questions you may have. The site is dead handy for the M6, although you'd never know you were that close as its quiet and you are completely in the countryside. There is a canal opposite with lovely walks and the added bonus of a swan family complete with 8 cygnets! There were very well behaved dogs on site while we stayed so obviously lots of good dog walks around. We were there for the Great North Swim and it was 20-30 minutes to the main transport points of Bowness and Brockhole. The site has two areas - one with hard standings for tourers/mohos, and a camping field with a few hard standing pitches along one edge. Each has a facilities block, although we only used the one in the touring area which was spotless and well stocked, with lots of little extras like cotton buds and emery boards should you have emergencies. The showers had lots of hot water and were 20p for 3 minutes which is plenty, and in a shower room rather than a cramped cubicle. There's a hair dryer on the wall too. They are building a new facilities block in the camping field which I'm sure will be of the same high standard. The owner dropped by to check all was OK and have a little chat, and was available but inconspicuous all day - other than that you are left to your own devices if you want to be. They were generous with sharing information and seem to have spares of everything should you need it! The pitches all have EHU and water very close by - it's as close to being fully serviced without actually being fully serviced as you could be. There's been a lot of work done since we were there last year, and our pitch looked really smart. They've changed the entrance to the camping field which makes it feel more open and the two areas feel more connected. We were in a caravan and had friends in two tents so appreciated that a lot. The birds also loved the open hedge that has been exposed by making this change as they were in and out all day! The pitches are level but not necessarily flat - not a criticism at all, just the geology of the area, but a note to readers to have steady blocks/wedges - although I'm sure the owners will be able to sort you out if you haven't! Definitely recommend this site and hopefully be back next year!
Site's response
Thank you Sarah - I think that you've covered absolutely everything with your review! We love returning customers, as it means that people are enjoying what we are doing. See you next time. Paul p.s. yes, I have a collection of blocks/wedges and ramps!

Fabulous small site with great easy access from M6 (1 mile); very friendly welcome; great towpath walk and good pub/hotel very close; good shower facilities with lovely touch of toiletries etc. more new facilities under construction. Good, mostly level, hardstanding pitches with EHU and water to each. We'll be back!
Site's response
Hi Catherine. Thank you for rating us as 5*. Whilst you were here, you were on pitch #30 which has become the most requested motorhome/campervan pitch for rebookings in 2023 since we moved things around. Enjoy your travels and it will be lovely to host you again in the future. Paul

Beautiful location, garden is beautiful, plenty of space, toilets are the best I have ever seen. Beautiful walk along the tow path, a hidden gem. So close to M6 so a great stop off point. Friendly staff, and rabbits, ducks, loved it.

Hi Brenda - you missed mentioning the swans and cygnets! "Our" swans, on the canal just opposite the main entrance, have just had 9 cygnets and give everyone a smile that spots them floating on by. Paul & Sarah

Upon arrival, the manager was very polite and welcoming. When we arrived the campsite was busy due to a local festival. Good mix of campers, campervans and caravans. For the amount of people staying at the location, there would have could have been more toilets/showers. Although there did look like a new building was being built, which might be more facilities. Just remember 20ps as you'll need them for the showers. Showers had a tendency to get colder closer to the end of a 3-minute cycle.
Site's response
Hi Rob Thank you for the review and recommendation. Yes, you're correct, there is a new shower, loo & laundry block being built onsite, which we anticipate being open by the end of June and once completed, we'll have double the capacity, plus additional washup & hand wash facilities. I'm off now to double check the performance of the shower as it should run at a consistent temperature all the time - getting cooler as it get closer to 3 mins isn't part of the plan. The showers are 20p for 3 mins and we have complimentary shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and hairdryers to use as well. Travel well and hopefully I'll be able to host you again in the future. Paul

I cannot rate Little Acre highly enough, just spent 2 nights and wish it had been longer. From arrival to departure, Paul could not do enough to make my stay perfect. I have 2 little dogs, one is on chemotherapy and it has made her very reactive to other dogs, not aggressive just very vocal, which can make staying on a site very stressful. Well, she like me must have felt very much at ease as she only barked twice, I cannot wait to return. Thank you so much Paul.
Site's response
Hi Pauline. Little Acre is very dog friendly and it sounds like your 2 pooches were every bit as chilled as you were. Hopefully we'll be seeing you again, sooner, rather than later! Paul

A very warm welcome was received from the owner to this beautifully cared for and located site. The site when busy could do with another toilet block but the owner is addressing this with a new build. We loved the fact it was well situated close to the motorway and to the Lancaster canal (brilliant for walking a busy spaniel). The toilet facilities were immaculate , each hard standing had its own water/electric point and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the owner who lives on site. It was quiet and the other campers/caravan owners respectful of each other. There appeared to be many people who were regular returners to the site as well as tourers. Highly recommended if you need a night stopover or wish a longer stay to visit the south lakes or Yorkshire Dales
Site's response
I think that you've summed up Little Acre spot on, Lorraine! When you stayed with us, we had every pitch taken, so we were as full as we were ever going to be. The new toilet/loo/laundry block that you saw being built onsite*** is about 3 times the size of the one that it is replacing and once completed will be a welcome addition. Thank you for the lovely review. Paul *** it should have been ready for Whit BH weekend, but unfortunately the timetable has slipped a bit

Beautiful site, close to local pub and canal walk. Staff very helpful. Only one shower in toilet blocks but new one being built! Super clean and maintained well. Will be back.
Site's response
Thank you Julie. The builders and plumbers are all working actively on site, so progress is being made on the new shower, loo and laundry block (we do have 2 shower & loo blocks on site, but quite a few people only use the one that is closest to them or aren't always aware of the other one). Since your stay, the swan that is on the canal next to Little Acre has had 9 cygnets, which will be something nice to look at on your next visit! Paul

Clean and friendly small campsite, which accepts dogs on a lead. The pitch we had, (number 2), did have a small grass area behind the motorhome, which was lovely in the sun. We had an electric hook-up and fresh water on the pitch. There is a canal just outside, which is very good for walking the dog off the lead on the towpath. There is a hotel/pub a short walk away which does accept dogs, but you need to book a table, so we didn't get to go there. We felt the downsides were the charge for the showers, the single sink in the dishwashing area, which meant a queue to do the washing up, and no motorhome service point. Overall it was a lovely peaceful site, but we didn't think it was for us.
Site's response
Hi Lesley Thank you for reviewing me on campsites.co.uk, which I really appreciate. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay and that you (& your dogs !) were made welcome. I agree that the dishwashing area is busy at peak times (you stayed with us over a BH weekend) and this is something that we are addressing. The large stone building that you will have seen being constructed close to the existing washup area is our new loo/laundry/shower/washup facility, which will more than triple the washing up facilities for folk to use. The original plan was for it to be ready for Whit BH weekend, but timings slipped and we didn't manage that date - we're now at the final stages of completion and it won't be long before it's up and running. Previously we had "free" showers, but we had several instances of people repeatedly hitting the hot water button that either a) drained the hot water tank or b) drained the 47kg gas cylinder - both of which then rendered the showers unusable for others to use. After reintroducing the 20p for 3 min showers (you can add several 20p's if you'd like a longer shower) the nuisance behavious stopped and the showers once again work as planned for the benefit of everyone. At the same time, we also introduced complimentary shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryers and heated mirrors for people to use. I don't currently have a motorhome service point, but it is something that I'm looking at for the future - finding a suitable location is proving to be a challenge. I hope that you enjoy your future travels at sites that suit you better. Paul

Easy to find. Easy to access. My journey M1, M6, and there I was. Shower block very good and very very clean. Made a great start to the Lake District. You do the motorway traveling to get there and then relax here, ready to start the next day's smaller roads.

And we even arranged lovely weather for you as well during your stay! Thank you for the lovely review - as you say, we're very handy for M6 Junction 36, but we aren't troubled by the traffic noise. Paul & Sarah
