Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesSep 2024

We have been several times and love the campsite. It is a traditional family campsite in a beautiful setting and very peaceful. The heavy horses are a great bonus too.

Great time had by all

Large Tent - Non Electric Bramless Fixed PitchesAug 2024

Just got back from 3 nights at Bay stone Bank Farm and even though the weather was a complete washout, this little campsite is a hidden gem! The owners couldn't do enough for everyone there and when the stream / river got a little high because of the amount of rain, they came round the campsite to reassure us that we were safe 🫶🏻 They opened the shop after closing to make sure we had wine to get us through the last night and made it clear that we didn't need struggle with all our stuff the next day, someone would come help us if needed! On the one day we had a dry evening , it was lovely sitting out with the camp fire going making smores, taking in all the beautiful views around us! So peaceful ☺️ We will definitely be back… only when it's dry 😂

Not the experience we hoped for

Small Tent - Non Electric Little Mead 'Loose' PitchesAug 2024

Was supposed to be staying for 3 nights. Only stayed the 1 night due to being on a field covered in thick, soggy mud, horse manure and grass full of weeds, making it uncomfortable to pitch up. Not allowed your car next to your tent which made the 'weekend break' a chore. We had to do 8 trips, back and forth in mud up to our ankles just to pitch. If you are booking here, I would recommend to pitch on the lower field as it was much nicer and looked after. The upper hills felt like wild camping and way too far from facilities. The toilet block closer to us had no lights and wasn't clean, so had to go in pitch black. Café staff were lovely and food was really nice :)

Lovely, peaceful location

Peaceful, back-to-basics site. Everything is simple, but the set-up has everything you need, including stunning views. Handy location for south and west lakes.

Lovely peaceful site

Great site, very peaceful with a stream that you could paddle in next to our pitch. Each pitch had a firepit too and they sold logs at a reasonable price. Lovely stay. The shop and café were great too.

A fantastic and stunning location, with laid back and friendly staff. The toilets and showers were basic, but they were ok. A wonderful ride on dragon and an enormous Suffolk Punch. We will definitely go back.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (Streamside, Car Free Zone)Aug 2024

A beautiful site, lots of space, trees, stream to occupy kids. Food at cafe was delicious and great value for money. Shower and toilet block dated, men's toilets poor and generally could be a bit cleaner, but wouldn't stop us visiting again!

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

We absolutely loved our stay at Baystone Bank. Low light area meaning on a clear night, we could see so many stars. The staff were so cheerful and welcoming, firewood delivered at your pitch every night and a quiet area surrounded by sheep, horses and cows. We felt very safe and secure. There is a little stream running through the site which the children loved to sit by. The showers could have been a touch cleaner but were still much better than most campsites, the staff checked on the toilet block regularly to make sure it was all tidy and well stocked. The showers were hot around the clock, which was great. The only issue we had was being pitched close to the toilet block where people crossed our pitch a lot to get to it, as the only barrier was some bunting. This was pretty, but at one point, one of the other campers took it down to allow everyone to walk through our pitch because it was a tripping hazard. We did point out that this could be avoided by people walking around and sticking to the path as people were then tripping over our tent. This was not the fault of the staff but it may be worth separating the pitches with a more solid barrier to prevent this. It felt like it was a potential safety issue and our equipment could easily have been damaged. The campsite and the staff were a delight and we had a blast. Would definitely recommend!

Happy hols

Trailer Tent - Electric Hardstanding PitchesAug 2024

I would 100% recommend this site to anyone! We stayed here as a family of 4 with 2 young children (6 & 7) and 2 dogs. Every member of staff we spoke to or crossed paths with was lovely and happy to help where they could! Jamie especially, so huge shout out to him! He was always just a text away and nothing was too much trouble! You felt comfortable at all times! Having the fire pits on each pitch was amazing, having a real fire on a night was great! Especially when you have door to door log selling service 😂 All facilities were great! Women's toilets always clean and tidy, only thing we could give a negative too would be the men's toilets, they were quite small and my partner could barely fit into a cubicle with 1 of our children where as the women's were brilliant! Showers very hot and comfortable, mop there everyday for people to just give them a wipe over when they had finished which most people did! Washing up facilities were great too! Lots of space and they also had a communal washing up liquid and sponges if people had forgotten to take theirs! Over all this site is great! We loved how calm and quiet it was having the animals there to look at and see as well as the steam where the children could play! The site was never over packed like some sites and there was a lot of room to be comfortable and the kids to play! My sister in law joined us on for a 3 night stay with her 2 children (3 & 6) and all the kids absolutely loved it! It was so peaceful and amazing views! It is a little further out and not much around but if you don't mind the extra travel which we didn't it's honestly amazing! Again I would highly recommend this site to anyone! We will definitely be back again! Thank you to Jamie and the team🥰 We had a wonderful time!

It's ok, but it's let down by its facilities. They're not the cleanest and it's seems like it was all built on a budget but that's not reflect in the price. I stayed somewhere else the next night for the same price and it was completely different, very clean and well maintained. This being said, the location is good, the people are nice, the stream is lovely and the horses are beautiful.

The location of the site is great if you want to get close to nature. We were camped right next to the stream. Extremely close to either a beach or the mountains. Only downside was that the gents' toilets were blocked.

Lovely place, beautiful surroundings. Only few issues, need more toilets as one was blocked, which left only one for everyone there. and showers could do with updating.

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesAug 2024

Beautiful location with friendly, helpful staff on site. Pitches small, not level and squashed together. Toilets/showers in need of refurbishment and cleaning - strong smell of stale urine throughout the entire block, bins overflowing. Nice location but I wouldn't return due the the poor standards of cleanliness.

Lovley stay, first time camping

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

Really nice site, people who run it kept the site & facilities clean and stocked up, plenty of space in the shower blocks and washing up area. We used an electric pitch, which was great, each pitch also had a fire pit and you can buy logs at the site to use. Views around the site were lovely. Would visit again.

Great stay, would definitely return

Beautiful campsite with an amazing view. The fire pits really add to the whole experience. However, toilets and showers are not clean, probably the worst we have seen during our trip.

Not impressed

Small Tent - Non Electric Bramless Fixed PitchesJul 2024

After booking the most expensive pitch, on arrival we were told we have been 'upgraded' to the better pitch which was cheaper on booking site. We were told the field we had booked was full of lamb mess, but she can put us there if we like! We didn't want that obviously, so we had to camp in area we didn't book, which was very cramped and had to park our car far away from our designated pitch and carry everything up hill! Facilities are not great either. Male and female sharing with toilets, showers, washing up sinks and fridges all in the same room. Kicks up a funky smell, especially when people are spitting in the sinks whilst we wash up our plates! Also, ran out of hot water at points so cold showers were taken. Some staff felt rude and not welcoming! Overall, I think this campsite was expensive and not very user friendly! Won't be returning!

Site's response

Hello Joe, firstly, I am terribly sorry to hear that you weren't happy with the pitch selection. I see you had booked bottom of Bramless, so unsure why you would have been moved, as we have had to keep sheep in Little Mead due to grazing demands, allowing folk to book that pitch and either rub shoulders with fluffy sheep, or to have a more expensive pitch for the same price. I'm sad to hear this wasn't how it worked out for yourselves, as we try to ensure to help any problems with our guests when they're with us. The toilet block has been the theme of year, it's in need of a desperate upgrade and we are very aware, and have plans to renovate it over the winter. Also boiler issues resulted in the water being cold, this has also now been resolved. We would rather our guests didn't spit in the sink either, but hopefully they're behaviour isn't reflecting on us. We hope you can at least understand that we provide fridge and freezer as an option for our guests, with the open plan toilet block being common practice among most campsites, such as beads over the entrance to prevent birds getting in. For the rude staff, our onsite wardens have been having a tough time as of recent, but this should never reflect on our guests, so we appreciate you letting us know as they will be leaving us to find more friendly staff. First impressions are everything and we have heard multiple un-welcoming reports, so are working to resolve this too. Hope this makes things a little clearer, albeit we can't change how your stay was, we hope you join us again to see all of the changes, as we would be happy to have you.

Positives. We chose location to be near the coast which worked well. Pitched good each with your own fire pit and logs for sale each day. Site wardens lovely, chatty and helpful. Washing facilities good with draining boards either side of the sinks and a bowl available. Fridge and Freezer to store food which worked well for us as we had frozen raw food for our dog. Plenty of hot water and not charged for showers. It's a working farm but this did not cause any issues for us, nice to see the sheep being herder and you are able to explore countryside via a permissive pathway. Negatives were the toilet & showers. They were the disappointing aspect and not what we've experienced elsewhere. Cleaned daily by wardens (except Mon & Tues) but the showers in particular are old, stained and mouldy.

Beautiful site

Not a bad little campsite. Has a little shop, café, showers etc. We climbed Old Man of Coniston, which wasn't far, about 20 minutes. We also drove to Bowness on Windermere one day and got the boat to Ambleside, which was nice.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass PitchesJun 2024

This lovely site has a beautiful location but it's easy to miss the entrance. Look for the Cumbrian Horses sign. Don't be put off by the steep road, the site is there in a stunning valley part way up the hillside. A lovely stream runs through the site and we were treated to watching a heron often waiting in the water. This is a working farm with sheep and horses in fields. Jamie, who was very welcoming, came to see us just after we drove up and gave us lots of information about the site and area. It was superb to be able to light fires at night and sit around the firepit. Each evening bags of dried logs were brought round for sale if required. The toilets and showers were quite basic but were cleaned each day and showers were hot. There is a farm shop and café providing food and meals (I cannot comment on this as we did our own cooking. The site attendants, who live on site, were friendly and gave us advice and local knowledge. We were given a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. There are many main attractions just a few minutes drive away. The site suits all types of groups, families, friends, couples and also is great for young children. They are dog friendly which suited us very well. Wish we could have stayed longer.
