About Tregonetha Lake

This is a small, peaceful site surrounded by wild Cornish countryside and open farmland. There is a beautiful two acre coarse fishing lake too, ideal for keen anglers! The 15 non electric grass pitches are located on a two acre field which overlooks the lake. The site operates a "choose where you want to pitch" basis for tents and trailer tents, with each pitch allowing up to six guests. If glamping is more your style, opt for a stay in one of the cosy bell tents. The 5m standard tents include a king size bed and bedding, plus the option of two single air beds. There is also a low level table, a mirror, one rechargeable lantern, bunting, a door mat, a rug and a fire pit for evenings in the open. There is also the option of a basic bell tent which is unfurnished, you will need to bring everything except the tent. Or you could opt for the luxury furnished lakeside bell tents. These 5m bell tents come with beds configured to your request, as well as bedding, towels and a fully equipped camp kitchen with a gas stove. Outside you will find a BBQ, fire pit and picnic bench- the perfect set up for that al fresco dining experience! While on site you can enjoy lakeside nature walks and fishing. The fishing lake, which can be booked onsite at an extra cost, is home to common, mirror, crucian and ghost carp as well as roach and rudd. The biggest common carp so far has been 14lb but who knows what else lies beneath? Is there a 30 year old monster in there? Canine companions can also join you for your stay, with up to two pups permitted per pitch and in the bell tents. Campers are also welcome to bring along their own BBQ or fire pit for toasting marshmallows, just please ensure to keep them raised from the ground.

Tregonetha Lake is open from 19/07 to 28/08 and 31/08 to 14/09.

A note from the site themselves...

When Tom and I first laid eyes on Avalen Farm we absolutely fell in love. The farm was previously owned by an elderly couple, It was clear that the eight acres of land had been left to nature for that last few years, everything very overgrown and already re-wilded, an absolute haven for wildlife.

Our dream to create an off-grid campsite surrounded by nature came true when we purchased the property in August 2023. The fishing lake is the icing on the cake, not only is it a stunning backdrop to the camping and glamping field but fishing is a wonderful pastime, enjoyed by many.

We have left a large amount of the land untouched, for the birds and wildlife to enjoy. We have worked on the camping field and added paths and fishing platforms around the lake. We are working with Forest for Cornwall and during winter we will plant an acre of new woodland on the land beyond the lake.

We are passionate about wildlife and hope to increase biodiversity by not only planting trees but also introducing wildlife ponds, bird and bat boxes etc. Our aim is to inspire people to love our countryside and wildlife and enjoy some time in nature, Mel

Bell Tent - Furnished Lakeside Bell Tent (Kingfisher)Sep 2024

Our family of three and our two dogs recently stayed in the Kingfisher Tent at Tregonetha Lake, and we had the most wonderful experience! The tent was spacious, cosy, and well-equipped, offering us a perfect blend of comfort and the charm of camping in nature. We loved waking up to the peaceful sounds of birds chirping and stepping outside to take in the beautiful views of the lake. Our little one especially enjoyed exploring the surrounding greenery and watching the wildlife around the water. The setting was incredibly relaxing, and it was the perfect place for our family to unwind and spend quality time together. Whether we were walking along the lake's edge or simply sitting by the water with a cup of tea, we felt completely at peace. The Kingfisher Tent gave us a wonderful connection to the outdoors without sacrificing comfort, making it an ideal getaway for families. Mel & Tom were helpful and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We can't wait to come back for another stay—it truly felt like a little slice of paradise!
