Set on the edge of Dartmoor, Cannamore Camping offers almost wild camping on grass pitches over two fields. You'll enjoy access to the beautiful South Devon coast, a 25 minute car ride away. Choose your pitch in a wildflower meadow with wide-ranging views of the rolling South Hams countryside or pick a spot on the lower field, a more secluded alternative. Cosy unfurnished bell tents and a glamping shepherd's hut are available too.

A lovely quiet site with friendly owners. Beautiful location and light pollution free. Clean and adequate facilities, but due to not much sun the showers were a bit cool as they are solar powered. However we managed and will definitely visit again.
Site's response
Hello, many thanks for your review! Please accept our apologies for the cool shower, we think the gas may have been running low! Our off-grid showers are heated by gas but the water is pumped by solar power. Please do feel free to ping us a text with any issues with the facilities as we can usually sort these pretty quickly! The showers do usually run nice and hot! Thanks again and we'll look forward to your next visit. Best wishes, from the Cannamore Camping team.

My stay in the Shepherd’s hut was idyllic, even with some wet weather! The location is perfect for a peaceful getaway in nature, whilst still being very accessible. As a single woman I felt very safe and secure. The hut was well kitted out, clean and cosy. I was pleasantly surprised it also had a small hob/cooker and fridge. There is a separate private bathroom a stone’s throw away, which was clean and well equipped. The shower was the perfect warm temperature too. Roy and Anita were lovely, warm and helpful with great tips on local walks and attractions. I will definitely return, thanks for a wonderful stay.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon and was greeted by the owner, he showed us to our plot and gave us the key to our very own loo, and all the other information we needed. The site is wild with pitches a distance apart, so feels very secluded. The loo and showers are spotlessly clean. There's lovely views and it's very relaxing. Everything is well thought out on site. Close by is Dartmoor, Plymouth and beaches, as well as interesting towns and villages, plenty of places to go. We were definitely not disappointed and had a relaxing time. We would thoroughly recommend Cannamore to anyone who would appreciate everything I've described. 10 out 10, and we'll be booking again soon.

Our second stay was just as peaceful and relaxing as our first. The facilities were spotless as before, stunning views over the rolling Devon countryside and a warm welcome from Roy. Would definitely recommend and return.

We had 3 nights at Cannamore. We arrived a bit later than planned after a long drive. We were met by the owner who was going to phone us - he tried to find us a spot out of the wind that was gusting. Showed us our own loo and the showers behind a hedge - spotlessly clean and over the 3 nights, Roy was there cleaning a lot. Getting out of the car, I could just smell meadow sweet fragrance. There were only 3 other campers who seemed miles away. The view is a delight looking over the hills. It is definitely a bit of paradise and we wish we had stayed longer. We toured each day to Dartmoor climbing the Tors, beautiful Widdicombe village and Ugbourgh Beacon. Longtimber Woods on the river Erme in Ivybridge is a lovely walk.

A nice view, and a good idea for a key to your own toilet block.

Unfortunately, there was no head on the hot water tap for dish washing. Response when raised, was that it is a work in progress. Plus light in toilet did not work, again response was work in progress and can lend a torch if need be. Clean showers and toilets, did not use the toilet allocated at night as could not see, used combined shower and toilet, and also the sink for dish washing, even though there were signs saying no dishes. Nice peaceful site. Some things need some TLC.

Thank you for your review. I thought I'd give a little introduction to our campsite. We are a small family run campsite (opened in 2021) with 14 pitches and a Shepherd's Hut. Our theme is wild camping with pitches mown into a meadow managed for wildflowers. We have added nice clean off-grid toilets and hot showers to give a little bit of home comfort to the wild camping experience. Roy and Matthew initially ran the campsite together but due to COVID Roy now manages the day to day tasks of the campsite. As a wild camping themed site we do recommend you bring a torch for heading to the loo at night. Whilst six of our toilets and the shower blocks do have lights, two of the loos currently do not (they will do in future). We do appreciate that hot water at the washing up sink would be very convenient and we do hope to add it. An off-grid hot water setup is quite complex and a system is being designed with aim of heating the water with solar power. In the mean time we do hope that people don't mind heating their own water or acquiring some from the taps in the shower blocks (we do ask that washing up isn't done in the shower block sinks). Please accept our apologies for any frustrations caused during your camping stay. Best wishes from the Cannamore Camping team.

My daughter's first camping experience and we absolutely loved the site. Clean toilets, clean showers and a lovely view of the hills. Well marked pitches with plenty of space for tents, seats and even the car. We loved sitting outside our tent enjoying breakfast in the sunshine, or sitting in the tent having tea in the rain! Simply a lovely place.
Best campsite!

Easily the best campsite I've stayed at. I loved how you weren't on top of each other, there was a nice amount of space. Roy was great and the scenery is stunning.

This is a beautiful small, peaceful campsite. The views are amazing. Very quiet. Each pitch has its own toilet which we thought was great. The separate shower cabin was immaculate and cleaned every morning. Water, a fridge and washing up area is available too. Friendly welcome from the owner. The nearby pub in Avonwick was friendly and easy to get too as was South Brent for supplies if needed. Easy access to walks on Dartmoor and also to coastal areas such as Salcombe, Mothecombe and Dartmouth. Lovely to stay on such a unique campsite.

We had a brilliant week camping at Cannamore. Roy welcomed us when we arrived and showed us to our pitch which felt very private and had beautiful views over the fields. Having our own toilet with a key a massive bonus and the toilet and shower were spotlessly clean, we saw them being cleaned multiple times during our stay. The shower had plenty of hot water and there was a sink for washing up close to our tent too. The site was very quiet and the other campers were friendly and respectful. All in all I would highly recommend and would definitely come back again! Thank you Roy and Co!

We arrived and were shown to our pitch which I can only describe as a huge crop circle with meadow surrounding. We were given a key for our exclusive use of the toilet, and there were two shower rooms which can be described as walking into your own bathroom. The site was peaceful and pitches were very well spread out. There is a shed with fridge and freezer to use. The best part was the scenery and the sunrises were beautiful. Overall a lovely stay and we would definitely return.

Lovely stay, came for my son's birthday as he lives in south Brent. The site is very quiet and peaceful, you have your own toilet and sink and shared shower facilities and the views are beautiful. The owner is a lovely man who came round daily to check everything was alright, he was very informative as we had a power cut, which affected most of Avonwick, and wanted to check our fridge was back on. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely location! You have your own space mowed into the grass, plenty of room away from anyone else. Great location and we had a lovely walk down to the local pub which I would recommend. Facilities were great as you have your own toilet assigned to you which is locked by yourself, and the shower was always clean.

Great to hear you enjoyed the setup at Cannamore Camping! Many people enjoy the separate pitches mown into the meadow. We do also have some pitches closer together for friends and family. Personal toilet is subject to availability but we do have eight available, plus two portaloos for the more remote pitches. We only have 14 pitches so they are never over subscribed! Many thanks from the Cannamore Camping team.

Absolute gem of a campsite. Wild camping with the benefit of excellent facilities. Spotlessly clean showers and toilets. The owner, Roy was very welcoming and helpful. As we had a Land Rover with a roof tent, he suggested we use the lower meadow which we had to ourselves! Stunning views surrounded by long grass, wildlife and trees. Highly recommended.

Great place, lovely and quiet, just what we were after. Owner very friendly and helpful. Facilities were lovely and clean, our only very, very small moan was we found the showers too hot to stand under.

Many thanks for your review! Glad to hear our campsite was just what you needed! Thank you for the feedback on the showers, this does sometimes happen when the weather is very warm. Please feel free to let us know if this happens as we can turn them down a bit! Best wishes from the Cannamore Camping team.

If you're looking for a quiet getaway, then Cannamore Camping is the place to go for beautiful scenery. It's wild camping, but with your own toilet with key and two showers with passcode, which you obviously share with other campers. There are a few electric hook-ups if you need them. Roy and Anita, the owners, are always on hand for advice and will go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable, nothing seemed to much trouble. I had a rooftop tent which is quite high, around 14ft high, and we had high winds coming in and Roy made sure I was sheltered the best I could be out of the winds. They both are very nice to talk to and the plans they have for Cannamore Camping are unbelievable. I would highly recommend a visit just to see for yourselves.

Many thanks for your kind review! Great to hear you enjoyed your experience at Cannamore Camping! With a smaller number of pitches but with plenty of space we are often able to offer several pitch options to get the best from your stay. The varied views of the rolling South Hams hills are a real attribute to the campsite. Thanks again from the Cannamore Camping team!
