A note from the site themselves...

Hi, I'm Rolanda. I grew up on this beautiful Welsh farm, where poet Dylan Thomas once sat under the great Cedar tree every morning drinking fresh, warm milk straight from the dairy. Having lived for many years in the South East of England, and also in the North, and in London, my family and I used to come here for every holiday we could.

We moved back in 2015, with three generations of us now living here.

The name Awel yr Awen, or 'Breeze of the Muse' in English feels appropriate because it really seems as though poetic (and musical) inspiration can be found here. Given the abundance of Nature, the thick, Welsh air and the green, green landscape, it is perhaps not surprising, and also seems perfectly natural that the site should be low-impact and off-grid.

I love nothing more than to see others come, leaving their cares behind, and enjoy themselves as we did, letting it all go, becoming calmer, more relaxed, grounded and energised as they soak up the peace and get in touch with nature, with themselves and with each other again.

Medium Tent - Nuthatch PitchAug 2024

We had a lovely 2 night stay at this campsite. We booked Nuthatch pitch which was nice and spacious for the two of us, our car, tent and space for our table, chairs and campfire. Nice that every pitch has a fire pit and you can buy trugs of firewood. Each pitch is quite private thanks to plants sheltering your surround. The site also has compost toilets, 2 hot showers and a small camping hut with a fridge, a kettle and somewhere to plug your phones in. The site was a perfect place for stargazing thanks to no light pollution (we had an unbelievable show!). We also enjoyed hearing the owls at night time and waking up to the chickens on the farm. Around 30 mins to New Quay (go and see the dolphins!) or Aberystwyth. Friendly owner. Would stay again. Thanks for a great stay.

Amazing potential!

Bell Tent - Owl Bell Tent Aug 2024

This was an amazing, peaceful little campsite with an amazing amount of potential. I stayed with my young son and I was pleased to see how peaceful the place was. I was looking for something really basic with a bed provided and a plot that gave me some privacy. This is exactly what we got. It would be good if in the future that dogs could be accepted, allowing for all the family to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Really good value for money and I look forward to returning for a longer stay next year.

What a fab site...and lovely welcome!

Just off the main road this site was super easy to access… had a lovely welcome and pitched up on a semi woodland site facing a glorious meadow and view. A limited number of pitches guarantee a small site experience, which is very valuable to many. Got a tour of the facilities, which include showers and toilets and access to electricity and fridge freezer. Showers and toilets are comfortably close to the pitches. Showers lovely and warm and have private changing area. My pitch had a fire pit and you can buy firewood from the site if needed. All in all a fab stay in a perfect location...safe, quiet and secluded and coast and country easily accessible. Lucky find for me!!! Good luck for the future Awel yr Awen !!! 😊

Whatever you choose, there really is something for everyone.

Whether you want to lie on the beach, hike the coastal path, sit and enjoy coffee, wine or ice cream as you watch the world go by in one of the seaside towns, get away from it all into the mountains, indulge your fascination with history by visiting Castles or the National Trust, or get out to sea on a boat or kayak, or follow in Dylan Thomas's own footprints.

Within easy reach of Cardigan bay, there are many stunning beaches to choose from, both South and North.

Aberaeron (20 minutes) has an expansive pebble shore with plenty of spots to pick up a delicious ice cream or fish and chips. The charming town with painted houses also has a lovely harbour, and a good choice of restaurants and cafes perfect for watching the boats come in and out.

The wonderful seaside town of New Quay is just a 30 minute drive away. Famous for its wonderful dolphin spotting opportunities, sit back and see them from shore or venture out on one of the boat trips and see them up close and personal.

Aberystwyth, 30 minutes to the North, is a university town with a ruined castle, expansive beach complete with pier and its very own Cliff railway. Plenty of places to eat, shop and enjoy the summer, you can also catch the Vale of Rheidol Steam train to Devil's Bridge from here.

Devil's Bridge Falls are a 45 minute drive from the campsite. Stroll through the beautiful nature trail and be refreshed by the sight and sound of dramatic waterfalls as you learn the time-old story of the three bridges, involving a dog, a cow, an old woman, and the devil himself!

When you have had your fill of beaches and the glorious Coastal path, and feel a need for mountains, the Cambrian mountains, Brecon Beacons and Preseli hills in Pembrokeshire are all within reach, with Cader Idris, Snowdonia 1 hour 20 minutes away.

Alternatively, you could visit one (or several!) of Wales's stunning castles: Kidwell, Carreg Cennen, Newcastle Emlyn, Dinefwr and of course Laugharne, to name a few.

Other nearby attractions include:

  • National Trust - Llanerchaeron (15 minutes)
  • Fantasy Farm Park (15 minutes)
  • Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre (30 minutes)
  • National Trust - Dolaucothi (30 minutes)
  • Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (45 minutes)
