About Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camp

A warm welcome awaits you from the owners living onsite at this eco-friendly sustainable campsite. Generating all site power from a large PV solar system, creating an off-grid experience, away from the hustle and bustle of towns and cities. The open plan field has elevated views over the Shropshire Hills AONB and beyond across the distant Shropshire plain. There is an optional sheltered field just for tents off the top field which tent campers may choose on arrival. There are grass pitches with some all weather hardstanding across the spacious site, welcoming campervans, tents, trailer tents, roof tents and small caravans up to 6m or motorhomes up to 7m. Cars and small vans are welcome too. Enjoy great sunsets over the distant Long Mynd and Stiperstones. Here nature is right beside you and so very close if you are quiet! Camper numbers are low at this site for you to enjoy the peacefulness of the location. Ideal for families, nature lovers, bird-watchers and stargazers. Visiting wild deer next to your pitch in the early morning! Soaring Buzzards and Red-Kites and at night the Owls hooting from the ancient Oak trees overlooking the site. Please note, the owners aim to keep the field quiet and safe for children. Tent campers can unload near the pitch. After unloading, cars (and caravan towing vehicles) must park off field in the nearby car park. The campsite is hidden behind woodland away from the noise of roads in a secluded "Dark Skies Area" making it an ideal location for stargazing, bring your telescope or just binoculars. Local astronomers use the site due to its Dark Skies location. Try to spot some of the constellations above. If it's cloudy, watch the twinkling lights of Shrewsbury in the far distance. There's a giant communal fire pit that is free to use with or without site purchased logs. Seasoned logs are available from reception and there are fire pits/BBQs and pizza ovens to hire. Please note, that open ground fires are not permitted. The warden must approve all private fire pits and BBQs for safety before use. Private fire pits/BBQs must be 18" off the ground with heat shields or used in the safe central area. Disposable BBQs can only be used in the central area and not at your pitch. Your four-legged friends are welcome to join you on your stay (two per pitch max). Pets must be kept on a short lead at all times as there is livestock in the adjacent fields. The entire site can be reserved exclusively for private functions, parties, events and filming.

All pitches are available from March to 20th October. During winter, the site has a few spaces with views for small campervans and small tents on the hardstanding area.

Facilities and amenities

Onsite facilities include clean flushing toilet pods with hot and cold water, hand dryers, sanitiser and soap, (unisex) and large washing up sinks. Black (Elsan chemical) and grey water disposal facilities.

Free WiFi, fresh water and solar generated hookups cover most of the site. Guests are welcome to bring their own shower tent, with water hookup points all around the field. There is also a large communal fire pit in the centre of the site.

A 15 minute drive from the site is the charming village of Much Wenlock, which offers good shops, pubs and fuel, including The George and Dragon Real Ale pub. Other pubs nearby include the Riverside Inn Cross Houses on the River Severn.

A note from the site themselves...

Operating off grid and aiming to be as carbon-neutral as possible, it's how we lower our impact on the environment. All of the electricity is generated on-site from a large PV solar array. The subdued LED lighting around the site is dimmed (saving energy) as low as possible to preserve our Dark Skies.

Surplus electricity generated during the day is exported to the National Grid, at present about 60%, further reducing our carbon footprint! The lawn mowers run on low emission green HVO fuel.

In the event of a shortfall of power in bad weather, a standby generator keeps us off the grid running on HVO fuel. HVO generates 90% less C02 and 30% less Nox2 pollution than diesel and is a fully renewable resource.

Waste water from toilets and washing process stays on site and passes through a living reed-bed complex and onwards to an evaporation pond supporting local wildlife, ensuring we don't pollute the groundwater table or streams nearby.

The wood we sell for fires comes from our own coppice resources, processed by a neighbour, so has minimal transport miles and is locally renewable. Your contribution to purchasing our local logs rather than supermarket logs that have many carbon miles on their production helps our sustainability concept.

We hope this explains a few of the things we do and our aims. You are also doing your bit for the environment by supporting us. We look forward to welcoming you to our eco paradise soon. As soon as you discover our site, you are sure to return soon to enjoy its peacefulness and leave refreshed by nature.Your host, Linda

Trailer Tent - Grass Large Tent Pitches 8m (Optional Electric)Jul 2024

Malcolm and Linda are amazing. Very welcoming, friendly and professional. The site is located in Shropshire's rolling hills and the view is spectacular. It is very clean and the pitches were spacious and very well spaced out, so you feel that you have your own space an your not on top of each other. There is a communal area, which is topped up with fire wood so you can cook and stay warm. This is one of the best sites I have ever been to.

Site's response

Thank you for your kind review. We try hard to give people peace and tranquillity. We look forward to seeing you again.
