Things to do in Telford
Large and bustling Telford is Shropshire's largest town, having earnt its place firmly on the map with the industrial age stunner, Ironbridge Gorge - attracting more than a million visitors a year - and the Wrekin, its walker's paradise with views of up to 17 counties.
But if your kids really need to let their imaginations run wild, the magic of Wonderland could be the first thing they think of. Keep their childhood alive with a trip to the theme park where exciting attractions, fairy-tale characters, a maze and crazy golf will leave them enchanted. You'll also have a hoot at the Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom which is nice and close to town, putting on quirky activities like sheep racing, pony rides and animal feeding experiences.
If you want to relax with reptiles, kick back with kangaroos and get up close and personal with fabulous animal friends, the Exotic Zoo is sure to suit too.
Get back to nature with a stroll in pretty Telford Town Park and Granville Country Park, with water play parks, adventure golf and a high ropes course for those with nerves of steel all on the cards. Wrekin's unbeatable panoramic views are enough to get even the least keen walker to the top, where you're rewarded with hints of the ancient Iron Age fort which once stood in pride of place there.
For something a bit different, why not see the sights in style on the Telford Steam Railway or have a go at snowboarding or skiing at the Telford Snowboard and Ski Centre.
Take in the impressive sight of the Iron Bridge which is the world's first cast-iron bridge. And all that ingenuity has popped up in a host of top musuems too - there are more than 10 top Ironbridge Gorge Museums, with a few highlights being Queen Vic's Blists Hill, Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron which is magnetising (geddit?) and even the Jackfield Tile Museum.
Explore the attractive National Trust property of Sunnycroft and its pretty garden, as well as the Darby Houses which will show you how the other half lived in style some centuries ago.
Take your sightseeing to the next level with a browse around Benthall Hall with its dazzling gardens and the pretty ruins of Buildwas Abby. An easy drive will also take you for a look at Shrewsbury's black and white timbered buildings and or to Wolverhampton for a look at the sales. Pretty and perfectly English Wellington includes a mural trail that will lead on a journey through its past.
