Lovely caravan park just off the A31. We had a nice gravel pitch with some grass - absolutely huge pitch which was great. Facilities were good, good amount of showers and toilets, generally well cleaned. Good washing up facilities and great that they had a big ice block freezer. Little shop there very handy, but expensive as you'd expect. Loved the fact that different food vans came each night, we tried a few of these. We only had our van and no car, the camp site was about half a mile from the road and then to walk anywhere was a walk along the busy A31 (path) which with a dog, wasn't the best. That was the only big downside we had with the park really, the lack of nice paths to places, we don't mind walking but not along the main roads too much. We ended up taking the van out a couple of times to go to the supermarket etc as didn't want to do the main road to walk. We loved the private camp woodland area to walk the dog. The lake (more like big pond haha) was a sweet area but only went once as no dogs were allowed. Overall this is a lovely campsite if you don't want to head off the site much, or if you're happy to walk along the main road.

Thank you Gemma for the review and your recommendation. We are pleased to see you will come back. The shop is a campsite shop for essentials and also for gifts. We won't compete with Lidl, but only a small increase does mean you don't need to drive off the park for a pint of milk and some bread rolls. Did you not go to Hurn Forest opposite the park that isn't along the A31? There are free maps at reception taking you on 3 walks that don't go on the main road. We are also having a bridge reinstated soon that will take you straight onto the Castleman walkway from the park woodlands. I hope this will tick all your boxes then.

This site was honestly the best site we've ever stayed in. It was so clean, the staff were super and genuinely friendly, and the pitches were well laid out as were the showers and toilets. The food vans and bar were fabulous. Everything was accessible and well manicured. It was our first holiday in 2 years and I honestly can't wait to go back. I will recommend it to everyone even though part of me doesn't want to as I'd like to keep it a secret! It was truly one of the best places I've been to apart from Mauritius and that's saying something, they deserve any award going.
Site's response
Thank you so much. To be mentioned in the same review as Mauritius is certainly a first. Do come again soon.

We just got back from the Back of Beyond campsite. What a fabulous place. Tranquil, clean, great staff and facilities. Visiting caterers most nights, bar area clean, comfortable with good atmosphere and service. Toilets & showers are clean and modern. Laundry room with washing, drying and ironing facilities. A nice shop on site that's plentiful & reasonably priced. The pitches are well equipped and spacious. The site is quiet, but atmospheric, it's very clean and safe. It's really close to some lovely places to visit. You are near the New Forest, Poole & Bournemouth. We'd definitely return. Thanks

Lovely, quiet, tranquil park to stay at. Ideal location for visiting Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. Nice dog walk area behind the site where the dogs can run free. A lovely welcome when we first pulled on site. Showers and toilets were excellent as well.

Nice relaxed atmosphere but disappointed there is no golf course and that you can't fish in the lake.
Site's response
Thank you for the review. We are obviously very disappointed in the low score, especially 1/5 for facilities, where we are on average scoring 4.5 out of 5. We have a 9 hole pitch and putt course on the park. This is a charity course for fun and raised a few thousand for charity each year. We would have been happy to help you find it. The lakes are wildlife lakes. Not fishing lakes. They have otters, swans and water vowels in them. We don't advertise them as fishing lakes. There are however 4 fishing lakes all within a 10 minute drive from us as advertised on our website. I am sorry that you didn't like the park facilities and I hope you find a more suitable place in the future.

The main reason we chose this site was due to it being over 18s only, and I'm glad we did! As a teacher and a previous bad experience of young families on a site, this was an appeal! The site was so quiet and clean, the staff so welcoming. There's a bar on site, visiting caterers, you can order afternoon teas and pastries, it's everything you'd want. The pitch was a good size and it made such a difference having Astro turf; not something we had experienced before as a camper but was nice to have a soft and flat ground. Local town was within cycling distance or a short drive, and convenient for Bournemouth and Poole. The only thing I didn't like was the showers in the main block, as the seating area was often left wet by others so struggled to keep clothes and bits dry, but I tended to use the individual showers by reception which gave me the room and ability to keep things dry. I would 100% recommend the site and would return again in the future. Thank you, Back of Beyond!
Site's response
Thank you for the top score, we really appreciate it. We appreciate your comments. In the main large shower blocks there are multiple hooks behind each shower door and screen for your clothes so you don't need to use the seating area, especially if wet. I am glad you will come back.

The park when we arrived has a lovely friendly atmosphere, it reminded us very much of a continental style of park, which we loved. The facilities were good and clean and the park was well maintained. The bar - Monty Bar was open from 4pm to 8pm every evening. It was a nice place and the food offerings from local traders were a really nice touch. The absolute best for us as dog owners, as the dog walk in the adjacent woodland was absolutely great and the best dog walk we have ever found.

Thank you so much for the great praise. It sounds like you had a great break with us.

Easy to find and met by the Rep at the gate. Pitches are open enough to allow you to spread out. Water and electricity is nearby. On site facilities are very good although during busy times, the toilet blocks could do with an extra clean. I found the urinal to be a tad low for adults and as there was only one in the block I used, this did smell as soon as you opened the door. Granted the sink area is used a lot but is untidy due to the numbers of visits it gets. The forest walks are excellent even in the dusk times. The lake was pea green due to algae growth and maybe needs a "Beware of the Swan" notice, very protective male...but you know when to leave! Overall a very good experience.
Site's response
Thank you for the review and recommendation. I am sorry if you thought the shower block wasn't as clean as expected. We usually score incredibly high on this and they are cleaned 3 times a day in peak season. The lakes are wildlife lakes and advertised as such so the wildlife has the priority over the humans especially when they have young. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and will come back.

First time camping since previous experience as kids so wanted somewhere that had good facilities. BoB didn't disappoint at all. Location was easy to get to and was a good base to explore the local area. The site is very well organised and they have literally thought of everything that you need. There's a lovely shop to get basic local supplies, a great bar area and you are surrounded by nature. Would highly recommend and we are already thinking of going back again.

Absolutely brilliant site, great facilities, bar and nightly food van. Camping on field easy and spacious, bigger pitches well laid out with clear boundaries. Short distance off main road and very quiet. Defo need some transport to get anywhere off camp.

We enjoyed our stay but felt it was rather restrictive where visitors were concerned, particularly to have to be off site by 8.15pm and having to pay £2.50 per person for the privilege. The location would have scored 5 star had it not been for the rather tricky access.
Site's response
Thank you for the review. I am surprised you had difficulty with the lane as it is a tarmacked road with lots of passing points so I hope you didn't have too much difficulty. With regard to visitors, we are a very popular park and our paid guests are our priority. We advertise as a tranquil park as customers seek out peace and quiet in our natural surroundings. We limit visitors coming onto the park to 5 couples a day otherwise you could imagine if there were another 100 or so unpaid people visiting their friends and family. We ask them to leave by 8.15pm so we can monitor who is on and off the park for security. We ask for £2.50 a head as when they are on our park they are our responsibility, on our insurance and all legal aspects concerned. We are not a public park, restaurant or a pub, however there are lots in the area where our guests can meet their friends outside our boundary. Many thanks.

This site is perfect for a few days peace and quiet. The facilities are good and clean. The outside bar is beautiful and very popular. Most evenings a catering van visits so you can have pizza, fish and chips, burgers etc, no need for cooking. The location is great, Bournemouth and Christchurch are only 20 mins away.

Thank you for the glowing report Mark. Do come again soon.

Our recent stay at Back of Beyond started well. We were welcomed by a lovely woman from York! She was very attentive and knowledgeable. Bar service was very slow and quite limited for non alcoholic drinks, and the bar is only open until 8pm. There is nothing around the campsite so that's one to note. There is a site shop, again limited by choice and opening hours. The food service from outside caterers was great, again limited by time. The site, as the name suggests, is in the middle of nowhere, with no frequent public transport links. The showers were hot but dirty. I found myself cleaning the shower before using it, not really something you should do on a campsite of this rating. Sadly, the trip finished with a sour note. I had prepaid and told the shop staff about 2 guests I had coming for an hour or so in the evening of the following day. They advised that they needed to leave by 8pm. That was it. Tuesday evening came and I let my guest's car in through the barrier and also my Grandad's car. I subsequently let them back out… This was apparently very wrong and a whole safety issue (which I understand) however the abruptness and confrontation was unnecessary. I was told very rudely to refer to the welcome pack, which should have stated about visitor guidelines. It didn't, I follow rules and it wasn't stated. The park owner threatened to kick us off the site due to this. Thankfully, it was our last day and I was all packed up ready to go. There was no need for it. Unfortunately I won't be returning due to this, though the rest of the staff were nice.
Site's response
Hi Ellie We were really shocked by this review as we normally score so highly with our guests. We looked into your booking and there are notes informing us that one of our team spoke to as you were seen letting several guests in and out of the park, breaking our terms and conditions. This included a couple of work vans and several people and other customers brought this up with us. We keep a very secure and quiet park and we are responsible for all guests who are on the park, so we simply can't have guests letting people in and out. If everyone did this, we would not have the quiet and peaceful park we promote. We do allow guests but they have to be booked in. It appears that you took offence to us bringing this up with you, sorry about that, but we take the safety of our park and guests very seriously. With regards to your other comments, the bar is only open until 8pm (last orders) as it's a bar for an early evening drink and not a late night bar, again to keep the peace and tranquillity. The campsite shop is open until 6pm week nights and 7pm at the weekend which seems pretty acceptable to us, late night supermarkets are available locally. Yes, Back of Beyond is off the beaten track however we have the New Forest, South Coast Beaches and Dorset Jurassic coast all in a stones throw. If you want a park close to a town, we are not the site for you and we do make this clear on our site. We are always open to constructive criticism but to say our showers are dirty is totally unfair. We have a vigorous daily cleaning regime and this is reflected by our customers feedback. I feel your review has been influenced by the offence you took to the incident but we simply cannot accept people using their barrier cards letting people in and out for the safety of guests and I am sorry you took offence to this. I hope you can understand where we are coming from.
