Can't fault this site, will definitely return. Easy to find and in beautiful scenery, which means lots of nice walks nearby. Although it is a smallish field for a lot of campers, it was incredibly peaceful and quiet, with no noisemakers. Was easily asleep by 11pm. Clean and stocked facilities.

So I know we went camping and you can't expect much, but I must say after looking at the photos and previous reviews, I was really disappointed with our stay! We did not see one member of staff whilst we where at the campsite, not even upon check in. The toilets where filthy! Used sanitary towels were on the floor next to the toilets in several cubicles. The showers where not much better and the water smelt poor! The shower and toilet blocks had no proper ventilation so were extremely smelly and humid! There is a main road right at the side of the campground, so you can hear cars zooming past. The 11:30pm curfew is not adhered to, as there were kids screaming, adults still up drinking and making noise and no staff to monitor or ask people to quieten down. I would not recommend here and you can get much cleaner and quieter campsites for cheaper. The 2 for 1 offer they gave us to entry for Castle Howard did not work either. Really disappointed and will not be returning again.

A fairly standard site with reasonable facilities and a little cheaper than elsewhere we've camped this year. However, the weather was fantastic and the location really nice. Although the lake feels hidden away from the site itself, you can walk alongside it with views of Castle Howard. It's probably 15 mins walk from Castle Howard or 5 mins in the car. Definitely worth a visit.
Worth a visit!

Fantastic place! Our first time camping and it's given us a great experience. Lovely staff, toilets and showers were better than expected and the camping field was fabulous. Such a shame about the other rowdy families being noisy and leaving such a mess behind - both on the field and in the shower room! A lovely walk around the lake and some very nice caravans too. Would love to come back again.

Brilliant place to stay, friendly staff on site. I was given a park information sheet and told where the toilet and shower block was. I just wish there were more shower and toilet blocks as we found we had to wait around as they were always in use. I'm only a small lady and found the sinks in the toilet blocks very high, yes there was a small movable step but would have preferred a lower sink. I'm not criticising, just saying. Site was well spaced out and everyone seemed friendly. We actually want to compliment all park staff for a brilliant stay and we will definitely be going back for another stay.

Our first family camping trip. We were really happy with the facilities and felt really safe there. Lovely community feel with all the campers. The site was recommended to us by family who also returned for a second time.
Good site with clean facilities

Nice site in a good location. Well drained as it rained heavily on our first night.

We stayed on a hard standing electric pitch with our tent, but we asked prior to arriving could we use the grass part between for the tent and was told yes - when we arrived and it was a no. Not a problem as I went out and brought solid metal pegs (only had plastic ones with the tent and these would definitely not penetrate the hard standing grounding at all). Campsite doesn't have Wi-Fi if you're looking for this for TV etc (download movies before you leave home). Wi-Fi arrival at the castle if needed. Toilets ok but need regular cleaning as a lot of people for one block gets dirty very quickly. Campsite quiet pretty much bang on 10pm. Take ear plugs if light sleepers as the crows are very loud in the morning about 7am. All in all, recommend if wanting wildish camping, albeit we opted for electrics to charge our car during our stay :-)

It's a flat field and clean toilet block. But that's all you're getting. Clean and tidy. Great base to explore from but all you are getting is a field and a toilet block.

Too noisy over night

On first impressions location is perfect, however, it site was so noisy over night with loud music being played and people shouting and running around screaming well past the advertised quite time of 22:00. This was such a shame, we've never stayed at a site where other campers appeared to have no regard for their other campers on site. The facilities were basic, toilets dirty, taps stuck on and showers cold, this could have been over looked if noise control on the site was acceptable. There did not appear to be any wardens to approach easily, which we have had at other sites. For the price of the site for a non electric pitch was not good value for money. You expect some noise at night, chatting, laughing etc but shouting and screaming and plying loud music across a site isn't okay.
Suited our needs for a 1 night stop over

No cold water tap in the toilets for cleaning teeth, there was nowhere to get dressed dry within the shower cubicle. No mirror near the hair drier but were mirrors above the sinks.

Lovely place. Nothing on site, just a shower block and toilets so car needed. The castle is 2 min drive up the road and it has a café for sandwiches and drinks and a local farm shop. You don't need entry to the castle facilities as these are open for all to use before entry (they sell bread, wine cheese and even a butcher for your food and drink supplies). They even have a restaurant, which would have been handy to know as we only found out the day before we left. Although it's a little expensive, Malton is your place to drive to for shops and a garage if needed about 15 min. Great location to drive to flamingo land like we did for the day. Reception kindly charged our battery packs for us as well. Overall, a perfect place for campers wanting peace and quiet and a lovely location.

We booked this campsite for 2 nights as we were visiting Flamingo Land on the sat, it was a great location! 20 min drive to Flamingo Land. The campsite was very nice, reception booked us in and told us where our pitch was and everything about it was spotless! The toilets and showers were always clean and tidy, also had a utility room with a washer dryer and freezer. Would definitely recommend and would visit again.

A fabulous week's break & would go again. Perhaps could do with more sinks for washing up, but otherwise amazing.

Good location and a pleasant site, but we felt it was set up for motorhomes/camper vans, with tents as 'a side line'. The toilet block was thoroughly cleaned once a day, but we felt it needed a second clean at a weekend when the site was busier. The water in the showers was never particularly hot, but were adequate. Only two washing-up spaces at a time as the basins were in a cramped room. Other than checking in, we never saw a member of staff!

A great getaway spot with a short walk out of the grounds you have a great view of Castle Howard. The facilities are very well maintained. Very busy location though meaning noise through the night and the morning for any one of various reasons. When staying in a tent obviously noise can be a bit of an annoyance. If the grounds could lower their allowed number of pitches, that would be excellent.

Clean and quiet site. Friendly and helpful staff. Would benefit from a play park for children, but ideal as a base to go and explore the surrounding area.

The campsite was easy to find, welcoming at reception and well laid out and tended to. The toilet and shower facilities are very clean and have a modern fit out. There is a lovely walk around part of the lake and lots of birds to spot. You will get a early wake up call from them too so take earplugs if you don't want to wake up at 4/5am!

Lovely site, well maintained and in an ideal location. Only gripe was the tents weren't pitched so people really got a bit on top of you and were close. Some people were also being loud at 1am singing loudly, but everyone's allowed to have fun. Facilities were excellent but quite a walk away from the tent site.

Peaceful park, but not much to do unless you have a car as nothing nearby.
