We took a chance and booked a 3 night, needed break at Back of Beyond. We found the site to be well laid out with good facilities good size pitches. Shame they don't have their own water supply on all pitches as well as electric for the price. The bar in the evenings had a good vibe and was well used, with average pub prices. The shower that we used was clean and had plenty of hot water, as well as under floor heating, which was a real treat seeing as we had a cold snap while we were there. The outside food caterers were very good. So all in all, a pair of happy campervanners.
Site's response
Thank you so much for your review. We do offer a variety of different pitch types including fully serviced with electric, water and grey waste on the pitch. These were available on your stay (£2 more a night) but you chose a standard electric pitch without water? Maybe you didn't notice this other offering. Very pleased you had a great stay with us and we will look forward to seeing you again soon.

Was a lovely place, very clean, and staff were nice. My only downfall was that I felt the pod was too small for 2 adults and 2 dogs. Great place to stay and would come again, but without the dogs or get a bigger place. On site food was very nice, and a good on site shop. Thank you.
Site's response
Thank you for the review and the top score, Mark. Yes, when you booked you chose the smallest pod, Kingfisher, but larger dog friendly pods were available for your stay. Next time, choose one of those so you have more room for your break with us. We hope to see you again soon.

Nice peaceful site, down a long narrow lane. Although we didn't use the bar, it was very busy Saturday night and looked like all were having a good time.
Site's response
Thank you John. Do come again (and use the bar next time). Many thanks.

Really pleased with location and facilities. First time here. Was impressed with the size of our plot. Great location for walks. There is a nice bar and great to have on site food options. Will definitely be staying longer next time. The shower facilities were of a high standard and very clean. Nicely stocked shop with some more unique items. All in all, it was a great find and adult only. Will definitely be staying again.
Site's response
Thank you so much, Wendy. Really appreciate it.

Nice site. Good pub on site, along with visiting caterers. Very quiet, and easy going. Allocated pitch which in this case I was not happy with. Seemed they were reluctant to to change our pitch if required, not sure why as there was space available!
Site's response
Thank you for your review, Christopher. I am sorry you are so upset about allocated pitches. You chose a certain type of pitch. There are only 13 non electric pitches in Damson, and you came at the weekend where we are very busy. We allocate on morning of arrival and if customers request a certain pitch we try our best to offer them the pitch they want. However, you did not. If you want to move pitch when you are here and there are pitches of the same type available, then we will always try to help. Many thanks.

This was one of the nicest sites I've stayed on. It was spotlessly clean and the team were friendly, helpful and a joy to talk to. The shop and bar prices were reasonable and the quality was great. The only slight downside was the distant road noise all night long and being in a tent under trees didn't help. That said we will definitely be going back.
Site's response
Thank you so much for the high score. Great to read you will be coming back to us. Many thanks!

The park was quite difficult to find initially. However, proved to be quite central for visiting. At the moment, I need disabled facilities and had checked that disabled facilities were on offer. This turned out to be minimal. With the exception of one path, they were all stone chips which neither my walker or buggy could go on. This meant we had to drive to the shower block, which I would not class as a disabled unit. I could barely get my buggy in, there was no rail from the toilet to the shower which made things awkward. There was no shower curtain so the shower splashed my carer. The second unit was even worse as it had a cupboard which had to be negotiated to get to the shower and toilet part from the entrance. The bar was surrounded by chips, as was the entrance to the shop prohibiting me to visit either. There were shower and toilet facilities next to reception but unfortunately, no disabled. They were all up steps. My husband informed me that these were lively and quite new. Perhaps more thought could have been given to there siting and inclusivity. Anyone visiting the bar had to go half the length of the park to find a toilet which they could use. The park was a nice tranquil setting. My husband thought it was lovely but he is able bodied. We were unable to use the walks or pitch and put due to my disability and ground covering
Site's response
Thank you for the review. We are glad your husband had a nice stay and we are sorry that you had difficulty with the nature of the park with your access issues. However we hope you enjoyed your stay apart from this. We are a very natural park with areas of gravel rather than tarmac pathways. We are a eco park so have to be very careful of the impact we have on the land. We do try to make this clear on our access statement and park description. I am sorry if the shingle was not easy for you. We do use the sea washed small shingle to make it easier but obviously this did not help you. The 2 wet rooms we have at the main shower block our access wet rooms rather than proper disabled access. These are historic when we bought the park and we are working on them to make them as easy as possible for customers to use and we will continue again this winter to work on them. These cant be replaced without removing the whole block. I hope if you come again you will see the changes. We fitted the new shower block at the reception side and Monty's bar 2 years ago. This is obviously additional to the main block. We did consider carefully access to this. Unfortunately, there is no way to get a ramp to it. It is 2 steps and a door lip. We have put a shower seat and fold down arms in the first wet room for customers but this is the limit of what we are able to provide. We do find most customers do have their own facilities in their own motorhome and caravans so our facilities are additional to this. I hope you enjoyed the other aspects of our park and that you will visit us again. Best regards, Martin.

We stayed for one night on our journey home from Cornwall. We had stayed twice previously, pre- Covid - the site then was one of the best we'd stayed at, and it's even better now. The owners have invested in a new amenity block - totally spotless and actually quite luxurious. A lovely new bar, and really decent food options each night - we had Thai food and it was great value. The site is very dog friendly - again, the best we've experienced to date. We were able to have our dog in the bar with us, in fact pretty much everyone had a dog with them 😂 The pitch was a really good size and the whole site was spotless during our stay, everything is well maintained and well organised. It was a shame to be only staying one night, we will definitely be back.
Site's response
Do come for longer next time, especially as we are your favourite park. Many thanks.

If you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful place to stay that is perfect for dogs then this is it! The facilities are great for humans with a bar, great little shop, food truck visits and great shower/toilet blocks. But the woodland walks are just paradise for dogs. They can be off their leads and run about the vast wooded area to their sheer delight! The staff are very helpful and friendly and the site is clean and well maintained. It's just a short drive to various beaches. We recommend Avon Beach in Mudeford, especially the fish and chips from the Noisy Lobster! Our first visit to Back of Beyond but definitely not our last!
Site's response
Thank you Debbie and we are so pleased to hear you will be back here soon. Many thanks for the great review and recommendation.

A very popular, yet extremely quiet site. Seen a host of birds, a Deer in the SSSI Wild Camping area and more. Facilities were exceptional and any detail we could think of had been thought of. Great bar, friendly staff, secure site and the different food vendors visiting each evening were a real winner. Would definitely return.
Site's response
That's great to hear, Kevin. We are blessed with a lot of wildlife on our park. Do get booked again.

Site was clean and quiet, apart from road traffic noise, though it might be due to distance from main road. Dog barking was not a problem until a visitor came with 3 dogs that barked at any thing that moved. Good choice of mobile caterers with their fresh cooked food.
Site's response
Thank you, Glen. We will look forward to seeing you again. We will always deal with barking dogs on the park. Just inform a staff member or call reception and we will pop over. Hope it was dealt with for you. Many thanks.

We have had a wonderful week, staying at Back of Beyond. The site and facilities are very well maintained. The toilets and showers were the best I have ever seen, with subtle detailed items, such as the wipe down towels around the sinks, the extra toilet roll holders in the cubicles. We used three of the nightly visiting food vendors, all of which were excellent and gave great value for money. The noise from the bypass during the evening was a little more noisier than expected, but manageable. Keeping and maintaining the site so well, comes at a price. The daily visits of the tractor and mower were a little excessive, appreciating though that the grass needs to be cut. The shop was well stocked and so was the bar, with items reasonably priced.
Site's response
Thank you Andrew for the review. It is really appreciated. I am sorry that you thought we were cutting the grass too much. It is a fine line. Normally this time of year we would not be cutting much but as it has been so wet, we are needing to keep on top of it. With so many acres (30) we need to be daily cutting some part of the park. Hope this didnt spoil your stay. Glad to see you will be coming back to us. Thanks again.

Lovely staff. Easy access to everything, really clean and well looked after place. Only thing I would recommend was a bigger frying pan/saucepan as they were small. (Or bring your own). But everything was on point!

Excellent campsite, only downer was the hand dryers didn't work so had to take a hand towel when visiting toilets.

Great campsite for adults only, however the traffic noise from the nearby A31 is quite noticeable early morning. Also some near neighbours were less than respectful of the noise restrictions late evening, but that is no fault of the site, just ignorant people. Visiting caterers were good and the bar was a nice social hub at the end of the day.
Site's response
Thank you for your review Shaun, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the park. So sorry that you were disturbed by other guests, as we are a Tranquil Park we do ask for total quiet after 10pm and we expect all guests staying on the park to respect this. We do provide an out of hours contact number in your welcome pack for you to phone the on-call warden, who would have dealt with the noise issue immediately. We hope to see you at the park again soon.
Sadly not the site for us

A disappointing site for us. We were three elderly couples trying to meet up, and though the campsite promptly informed us that they don't like rowdy groups, we reassured them that we were all grandparents and would not disturb the peace! Nevertheless, they deliberately scattered us, meaning we had to lug chairs and food ingredients round the site in pouring rain. We also felt that there were inadequate numbers of showers for the busy site, all of us having to queue. My husband, over 6ft tall, was aggrieved by the height of the sinks and the urinal in the men's facilities. We felt it was more suited to a small child but it is an adult only site. Lastly, the walk " just up the lane" to the bus stop is really quite a walk! Not the best site if you don't have a car. All in all, not a site I will be recommending.
Site's response
Thank you for taking the time to review our park Bernadette and the points that you have made. We are a tranquil park and for that reason, we have to make it very clear when guests make a booking that we do not accept group bookings. All guests are advised to read our terms and conditions before booking with us to confirm that they are happy to adhere to our rules as sadly on the odd occasion this doesn't happen causing a disturbance to other guests. Guests are also advised that pitch numbers cannot be guaranteed at time of booking, it is impossible for us to do this as it depends on how busy the park is. You visited when the park was full therefore we could not fulfil your request. The park is not vast and no matter where you are you would not be far from your friends. All the facilities are standard size and there are more than enough shower and toilets for each guest staying at the park to use. Unfortunately, it is totally out of our control which time of the day guests choose to use them, so sometimes they may seem extra busy at different times of the day. We do find that the shower block in front of reception is the one where people queue, when in fact there are more facilities available, also good quality, at the other end of the park. The bus stop which is situated at the end of our lane is a 0.5 mile walk from our reception area. If guests feel they cannot walk down the lane to the bus stop then there are plenty of taxi services that will collect from the park as an alternative to using the bus service. We are sorry that you felt the need to leave such a negative low scoring review for our lovely park. We are a popular park and have many returning guests who love it here. We do hope that in future you find a more suitable park and one that does accept group bookings and can guarantee pitches next to your friends.

Rather disappointed by our stay here. The facilities were excellent and spotless but we didn't think there were enough of them for the size of the site. Nice grounds but walking nearby was virtually impossible unless you're happy to access via a busy main road. Pitches tend to be opposite each other and, with many cars in addition to caravans and awnings, getting a motorhome into your pitch and parking exactly as instructed is challenging. We were travelling with friends and had asked to be placed as close together as possible. This is not their policy despite us all being 3 more mature couples and happy to comply with strict onsite rules. We were placed about as far apart as possible and so to enjoy eating together we ended up carting chairs and food around the campsite. I have to say that if 6 people were in one vehicle or tent would this have been a problem? Access is via a lane and at a bend you come to 2 enormous pillars. It would be helpful if there was signage to indicate that you proceed through pillars. I feel this site is more suited to a car and caravan to explore the local area. Personally I found the gated entry and the number of rules rather difficult and will not be returning.
Site's response
I am sorry the park wasn't for you, Susan. We understand that it wont be for everyone. I am surprised that you didn't walk the Castleman trailway, Hurn Forest or Moors Valley Country Park that are all accessible from the park without need of a car or accessing the main road. When you came we did try to get you and your friends near each other but as we were running a full park, the only pitches available on arrival where the ones we allocated for you. This is nothing regarding policy just logistics. We don't allow more than 4 people on 1 pitch so, no, we would not allow 6 in one tent. The pillars you mention do not belong to us so we cant put signage on them, but there is a sign before as well as after them, that our customers seem to find with no issues. The gated entry is in place for security and is well received by the high majority of our customers who prefer that to a open access allowing free comings and goings without any checks. I hope you find a more suitable park in the future for your needs. Many thanks.

Lovely campsite! First time to an adults only site and would definitely recommend. Onsite bar a bonus and a decent selection of beers, which were even better during happy hour at £4 a pint! Facilities clean and not too busy. Southbourne beach nearby is a great find, not busy and everything you need for a lovely beach holiday.
