About Cannamore Camping

Whether you're looking to surround yourself with nature or kick back and immerse yourself in the rolling Devon countryside, this almost wild camping and glamping site is an ideal base to set up camp. It is only a five minute drive from Dartmoor National Park, making it a great area for scenic walking and cycling routes. When you arrive you have the freedom to pick your own camping spot. All pitches measure around 7m x 7m and allow up to six guests. The non electric grass tent pitches are mown into a wildflower meadow, offering glorious views of the surrounding South Hams countryside. For smaller campervans and caravans there are two grass pitches with optional 16 amp electric hook ups. These are located in a slightly more sheltered area of the Lower Field. Alternatively, you can opt to stay in one of the spacious bell tents, these can sleep up to four or five but are also great for couples. The interior is unfurnished so you will need to bring along all of your own camping gear, just forget the tent and tent pegs. For a cosy stay whatever the weather, enjoy a stay in the charming shepherd's hut. Sleeping up to two, the hut comes with a small double bed (6ft x 3ft9") and bedding. For cooking whilst away, there is a small kitchen area complete with an oven, double hob, toaster, kettle, fridge, pots, pans and sink. You will also be provided with ingredients for a cooked breakfast, along with some cereal to enjoy in the morning. There is a private toilet and shower located nearby for your use only, along with towels. Outside there is also a table and chairs for enjoying meals al fresco. Wildlife is never far away with bumble bees, dragonflies and butterflies all attracted by the wildflower meadow. If you are very lucky you might even get an early morning or late night glimpse of a Roe Deer or two - although they are very shy so you'll need to be very quiet! Up to two dogs are welcome per camping pitch, with one small pup allowed in the shepherd's hut. Please note, the bell tents are pet free. If you want to cook up a tasty dinner, BBQs are permitted but they must be attended at all times. Open fires are only permitted at the site's discretion. The site is licensed by the Woodland Champions Club, helping landowners create and manage woodland for the public to enjoy.

Cannamore Camping is open all year round in 2024 and from 02/01 to 21/12 in 2025.

A note from the site themselves...

The philosophy behind our site was to share the views of the rolling South Devon hills and to make space for nature by creating a native wildflower meadow and planting new hedgerows. The hope was that like-minded people would enjoy camping amongst the wildflowers in widely spaced pitches and it seems that they do!

We were guided by the principle of creating a campsite that we would enjoy staying at whilst enhancing the space for nature at the same time.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Grass Touring Pitches (Optional Electric)Oct 2024

A lovely quiet site with friendly owners. Beautiful location and light pollution free. Clean and adequate facilities, but due to not much sun the showers were a bit cool as they are solar powered. However we managed and will definitely visit again.

Site's response

Hello, many thanks for your review! Please accept our apologies for the cool shower, we think the gas may have been running low! Our off-grid showers are heated by gas but the water is pumped by solar power. Please do feel free to ping us a text with any issues with the facilities as we can usually sort these pretty quickly! The showers do usually run nice and hot! Thanks again and we'll look forward to your next visit. Best wishes, from the Cannamore Camping team.

Very quiet and tranquil

Shepherd's Hut - Shepherd's HutSep 2024

My stay in the Shepherd’s hut was idyllic, even with some wet weather! The location is perfect for a peaceful getaway in nature, whilst still being very accessible. As a single woman I felt very safe and secure. The hut was well kitted out, clean and cosy. I was pleasantly surprised it also had a small hob/cooker and fridge. There is a separate private bathroom a stone’s throw away, which was clean and well equipped. The shower was the perfect warm temperature too. Roy and Anita were lovely, warm and helpful with great tips on local walks and attractions. I will definitely return, thanks for a wonderful stay.
