Things to do on site and in the Saxmundham area
There are two fishing lakes onsite which have been stocked with Carp, Bream, Roach and Rud. Carp up to 30lb have been caught. Day fishing is by ticket, which can be bought at reception and night fishing is also available but must be pre-booked.
Being on the doorstep of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, there's plenty of stunning scenery to explore nearby on foot or by bicycle - including NCN routes and off road cycling across the heath and forestry.
There are footpaths and permissive paths accessible straight from the onsite dog walks. From here, you can walk out onto a network of quiet lanes, footpaths and bridleways. A short walk will take you to the Fox Inn at Darsham and Westleton with a shop, garage, cafe and pubs is two minutes by car.
Bird and nature watching is easy, from Barn Owl to Bee Orchid, Turtle Dove to Woundwort you do not even need to leave the site to see and hear wild birds and animals and see wildflowers. The site is adjacent to Suffolk Wildlife Trust Darsham Marshes Nature Reserve, so leave your car behind and walk out to this haven for wildlife.
The popular RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve and Dunwich Heath with its beach, Coastguards Cottage tearoom and unique sandlings heathland is home to an array of wildlife and are both approximately three miles away. You may even spot an otter!
Or perhaps laze by the sea at Southwold and eat fish and chips from Mark's Fish and Chip Shop, or visit Aldeburgh. These seaside towns are both just 15 minutes from the site.
History lovers should pay a visit to Framlingham Castle, once the refuge of Mary Tudor.
Why not take a gardens and golf break. There are many gardens and small garden centres close by, for example Henstead Exotic Gardens and Helmingham Hall, and there are golf courses at Halesworth (5 miles) and Southwold.
Other local attractions include:
- Southwold Pier
- Sunrise Coast
- Woodbridge Tide Mill
- Thorpeness
- Snape Maltings
- Easton Farm
- Africa Alive
- Leiston Longshop Museum
