This site is definitely worth visiting, it sits next to Castle Howard with views of beautiful green fields. The facilities are excellent very clean and the hairdryers in the showers are brilliant. Lovely customer service, very helpful. The edition of washing facilities are very handy and reasonable too. Ideally situated for York and the surrounding areas!! We will definitely be back.

Our first outing in a new campervan. From arriving to leaving we found the site calm, quiet, and reception staff welcoming and very supportive. The view of the castle and lake is truly amazing. Highly recommended for a couple of days or a stop over.

The bathroom and washing up areas were kept very clean while we were staying and there was the option of a washer and drier if needed (for a few quid per load). We stayed in the non electric camping field, which was very spacious and right next to the lake. The campsite was easy to find and we had a view of Castle Howard from where we pitched up. York was an easy 30 min drive away and Castle Howard was barely a 25 minute leisurely walk up the road. We were welcomed and given plenty of guidance on where things were in the campsite and how to get to the field we needed, with plenty of drinking water taps located around the site! There is a long road next to the camping field, but I wouldn't describe it as noisy as there was only the occasional car going past and you could barely hear them! Would definitely visit this site again!

Excellent site. Lovely location and views of the lake. A little muddy in places but we did have hell of a downpour through the night. Apart from that, would highly recommend this site. Will be back 👍

Nice clean facilities, easy to find and nice and quiet. Highly recommended this one. Only thing to bear in mind - there are no restaurants/pubs on site or nearby. Not a problem for me as I brought everything with me.

Toilet sanitary bins were full and smelly and were not emptied whilst we were there for our 3 night stay. Also, the showers could do with a good clean

First time camping with my nephew and dogs and it was the perfect campsite and location, even the rain didn't spoil it. Thank you.
Really overcrowded

Noise from the road behind was really loud. Lack of security or people walking around. Not a brilliant campsite. Not enough toilets and showers. Overcrowded campsite. Noisy. No one checked us in. Not great.

I just needed an overnight stop when taking a leisurely drive from Edinburgh to Kent. There was no-one in reception on arrival, but a note on the door explaining where I could camp, this wasn't a problem at all. There was plenty of space to camp, no shortage of hot water in showers. The lake is very pretty and I had a walk round part of it. It isn't really very visible from the camping field though. There are some very grand and impressive oak trees on the site! The only negative comment I would make is that there isn't a lot of space for washing up, this didn't affect me as I ate late at night and early in the morning so I had the sinks to myself. If it was busy, this might be an issue.

Good location for visiting York centre. Approx. 30 mins in the car. The drive towards the campsite was lovely. Great views of Castle Howard from the top field. We liked the idea that you can pitch your tent anywhere on the field. Free to use hairdryers in ladies toilets, no coins needed as read in previous reviews. Only gripe is there's no plug socket in the ladies shower block.

Had a great relaxing 3 night stay to watch Chemical Brothers. It has all your needs for a peaceful camping experience. There was even a bus back and forth from the castle, but you could also walk the distance if you wanted to.

Lovely park. We stayed in the field without electric. Can be a little noisy with traffic and there is a noise like gun shots from local area from early morning and all day (dog hated it). Beautiful surroundings and a must is going up to Castle Howard which is outstanding. Would definitely recommend!

A lovely, peaceful site with lots of space and handy for visiting the Arboretum and Castle Howard. The toilet cubicles are a bit small for getting in and out of and there could be mirrors in the hair drying area, but otherwise I really enjoyed my stay.

Only 2 washing up stations for the campsite. This meant long queues. More washing up sinks desperately needed please as there were 2 fields full of campers!
So much potential

I have read the reviews from others who were on the site for the Jubilee Weekend with interest. We were self contained in our camper, non electric on the furthest field. The facilities were not great, and limited and distant toilets meant we witnessed some people urinating in the hedge. We spotted two water points and one very old fire point. The walk to Castle Howard is along a very fast road with limited footpath most of the way. The locked gate in our field meant we had a long walk round or climbed the fence. Having said that staff were helpful. The site is in a stunning area and has so much potential. Please look at better footpaths to the castle before someone is injured, or worse - and add more facilities in the right places. Unfortunately we wont be back or recommending, unless you want advice from two very travelled campers.

Great site and great views. Shame you couldn't walk further around the lake, but very clean and enjoyable.
