Had an amazing time at this little campsite. Was very quiet even though there were quite a few other campers there. The toilets and showers were lovely. Will definitely be back!

We had a fantastic stay at Balloch O' Dee in the lovely Roundhouse. It may look at first glance like a Glamping location, however, it is much more like camping (not that it is a bad thing). The Roundhouse is an off-grid accommodation, which is perfect for a weekend getaway. It was really cosy, with plenty of wood for the log burner. Bring candles and torches as there are no other lights! The site facilities are a little walk from the Roundhouse, and are very good by camping standards. The showers run hot and there was ample water. Washing up facilities and toilets were also decent. The site is very quiet, it is definitely somewhere for a rest and relax, not for a party. We slept very well in the huge bed and were plenty warm enough with our duvet (which we brought with us) and the wood burning stove. You will need your own cooking and eating equipment as they aren't provided. There is a freezer for ice blocks if needed. Our only suggestion would be that we could have done with a poker for the fire! All in all, a great place to stay in a beautiful location.
Great place to stay!

We loved our stay at Balloch O Dee! The campsite was easy to find and the staff member was really helpful on arrival. The grounds were well-maintained and the facilities were clean. We really enjoyed having a campfire one of the nights. Would definitely come back!

This was a lovely wee place. Everyone was very friendly and thanks to the people there who helped us set up our tent - first time with an air tent Nice location to explore gatehouse of fleet and Newton Stewart. We didn't go to port Patrick but maybe next time. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

The dog friendly location of Balloch O' Dee was just fabulous. Even once we left the main road to drive the last stretch to the campsite, I was impressed by the scenery. Once we checked in, we were invited to pitch anywhere on the left side of the campsite. It was lovely having a picnic table and campfire pit near our tent. The owners and their family were very helpful and informative. You could buy bags of kindling too from them. The tiny birds at the feeders were cute and the various chickens bopping about at the house were hilarious. Near here, you'll find several fresh water taps. There are two showers and two toilets next to the main house. Also a wash up area for dishes. Just across from there, you'll find another three toilet areas. The décor👏! Or as my daughter described them, "Rooms of whimsy!". These very spacious rooms each contain an upholstered long seat. Great option if you prefer more privacy for changing. The owners take card and cash payments, but as the Wi-Fi signal here can be hit or miss, I'd advise using cash more, where possible. If you're desperate to check into your social media, just head out of the campsite and walk or drive until you can access your stuff. We drove into Newton Stewart (under 10 miles from Balloch O' Dee) a few times during our stay and we were able to check things on our phones while getting some shopping in Sainsbury's. The store has its own Wi-Fi. Our daughter was only delighted. Balloch O' Dee is advertised as a quiet campsite, specifically from the late evening until the next morning. Apart from the gorgeous location, the peaceful aspect of this caught my attention when deciding to book. The best advice we got from the lovely owner was to not go by the automatic sat-nav route to their campsite. This route involved a lot of twisty, windy roads which played merry hell for any humans and dogs with sensitive tummies, as we found out! The better route to travel to and from Balloch O' Dee was to go via the coastal road (passing through Girvan). Less twisty/wind-ies. On a clear night, the stargazing was brilliant. Overall, we loved staying here and would do so again.

Great site. About 2 miles off the main road through Galloway, which means it feels remote and peaceful, but it's quite easy to get to the forest park or the coast. Great amenities like toilets and showers with plenty of hot water. All clean and really nice. Fire circles all around is a fantastic touch too. Everything you want from a Scottish campsite, done really well.
An absolutely beautiful place

This was my first camping experience with my son and we couldn't have had a better time. The campsite is in an absolutely stunning location with unbelievable views. The facilities are really clean and very cool. Owners are really friendly and helpful, we will definitely be back and I'd 100% recommend this place. Photos don't do it justice. Thank you 🙏🏻

We had three fabulous nights in the roundhouse. The weather was gorgeous so that always makes things better. There is no electricity and we are not normally campers so we had no camping stove or any of the other equipment a camper may have, but there was a communal cookhouse where we could boil water and warm up our chilli. The bed was very comfortable and there are a few candles for lights (we took a rechargeable lamp from home) but it is quite dark inside. There is a log burner but it was way too hot to need it on. We barbecued one night and warmed our chilli another and then ate out with friends the other night. Sitting outside with a campfire and reading was lovely. Obviously would have been very different if we hadn't had good weather. Showers and toilets were very clean. It was quite a trek to get to them but that's the price for peace and quiet.

Lovely peaceful, if slightly quirky campsite. Facilities are clean and showers are warm! We really loved the different shelters for cooking out of the rain and the opportunities to meet other campers. Unfortunately there are no horses, it looks like the stables haven't been used for sometime. We were also met by a man who seemed surprised at our arrival! We didn't think it was the most organised of setups but we would recommend this for the campfires and setting.

From arrival the site was amazing, it was in a beautiful area amongst the hills and you hear nothing but nature. The facilities were great and had a magical feel about the whole place and the family who run the site were so lovely. I couldn't recommend this place more!

We loved our stay at Balloch O Dee! They took us in last minute and were super friendly and easy to get hold of upon arrival. The facilities were great and the whole site had a relaxed and inclusive vibe. There was lovely scenery surrounding the site and loads of recommended excursions advertised for the local area. A great spot for a romantic getaway in our case, but also very family friendly. We will be back!

It's a beautiful location, and the site is peaceful and well managed. The facilities are good, with the really spacious toilets being a unexpected bonus. The is no onsite shop, so campers needs to be self sufficient, but there are supermarkets in Newton Stewart and a small one in Wigtown. We will definitely go again.

Beautiful place, really can see the ethos behind the campsite and I loved it. A peaceful campsite where you can relax and unwind with great touches, particularly in the toilets, patches of wildflowers, fire pits and free roaming chickens, made it feel like the owners know what camping should feel like. Wonderful.

Had a lovely time at Balloch O Dee. Remote location but close enough to local amenities by car. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and plenty to see. Would highly recommend trying this site. The communal cooking area is a lovely touch! James, the site owner, is a lovely bloke, very helpful, and I will definitely return if we venture back to Dumfries & Galloway area.
