About Birchbank Camping Site

Birchbank is set on a sheep farm on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary, a short detour from the Cumbria Way if you are walking. Indeed, the farm is surrounded by footpaths for walking. The grassy and mostly flat site is off the beaten track and next to the open fell, with a small stream running through it. It welcomes tents, caravans and motorhomes, with 8 electric hook-ups available if required. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept under control and on a lead because of the sheep. Backpackers welcome.

Birchbank Camping Site is open from 01/05 to 29/09 in 2024 and 2025.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Grass PitchesSep 2024

This site delivered absolutely everything I was looking for. Peace and quiet, with endless walks for me and 'mans best friend'. The scenery was to die for and all on the door step. The welcome I got was lovely and the facilities were great. I will 100% be returning, it was lovely.πŸ‘

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2024

Camp site well marked to find from the roads, even in the driving rain and dark! Easy check in. Toilets and wash-up room clean and serviceable. Pitches good size and well marked, level and tidy. Site is quite remote (not a problem for us, good pub ~10 mins easy drive away had hot food & fire). Lots of footpaths and exploring possible from site. Stream running through site would be delightful in warmer/drier weather.

Great location to escape

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2024

We stayed 2 nights in our camper with awning, it was Β£20 a night. Next to a working farm. We arrived and found our own pitch which were clearly marked. The toilets were clean and there were nice hot showers. There were facilities to wash your pots. Multiple trails directly from the camp site, we hiked to beacon tarn (around 1.5 hours) and turned this into a circular route via Cumbria way. Then heading west. 25 min drive to Coniston. It was very quiet at night.
