There are so many activities and attractions in the Royal Forest of Dean, it would take a book to mention them all!

There is something for everyone. You can explore historic castles, marvel at magnificent cathedrals, ramble along deserted nature trails, take drives through picturesque countryside, canoe and fish in safe waters and pony trek through beautiful woodlands. You can even have the satisfaction of picking your own fruit - it's an abundant area for raspberries, strawberries, plums and apples.

There are iron-age caves, wild life parks, a falconry centre, a maze and a steam centre for the railway enthusiast. Refreshing products can be sampled at nearby cider mills and vineyards: all in this still unspoiled corner of England.

Forest Gate is at the gateway of the forest, ideal for walking and escaping the crowds. The rivers Severn and Wye form natural boundaries - and don't forget that the Severn Bore comes up the River Severn many times a year, only two miles or so away. It is an amazing natural phenomenon.

Only 7 miles away is Gloucester with its beautiful cathedral, and the charming market town of Ross-on-Wye is 9 miles away. You are within easy reach of the Cotswolds, the Malverns and the Black Hills, and the towns of Cheltenham, Hereford and Tewkesbury which are all worth a visit.
