About the site

This quiet campsite is nestled along the banks of the River Rule in the picturesque Scottish Borders and just a five minute walk from a friendly village pub. Ideally located for hiking and cycling adventures and for those who want to launch their paddleboard and kayak straight from your pitch! There are 12 grass pitches for those in tents with seven coming with a 10 amp hook up, three of which are set by the river. Or, for campervans, caravans and motorhomes there is a selection of hardstanding pitches, each with a grass area too. Choose from a pitch by the river, a large pitch or a serviced pitch with electric and water hook up. Nestled on the banks of the River Rule, guests can launch their kayak or paddleboard straight from the site or go for a wild swim after a day of hiking or exploring! There is a recreation field that little ones will love, the only place onsite where ball games are allowed, or the village playground and football field, just a five minute walk from the site. For your evening meal, you can book a fire pit and attempt cooking al fresco or just use it to keep you toasty as you spend the night stargazing. If you would prefer to skip on the washing up, the campsite is next door to a charming village inn where warm welcomes, delicious food, and excellent drinks await. You'll be 15 minutes from Hawick and Jedburgh for a day of mooching around shops and cafes, and 30 minutes from the Kielder Forest, home to beautiful scenery and the UK's largest forest. Fire pits are welcome and you can even book a fire pit and a bucket of logs when booking. Please note, that fires are not permitted in windy conditions or directly on the grass areas. Do note that the site has a quiet policy between 11pm and 8am. The site is dog friendly too with a walk along the river which is perfect for them to stretch their legs!

Bonnie Park is open from 02/05 to 30/09.

A note from the site themselves...

Originally set up in the 70s, the site was sold, and the owners sadly didn't continue with the campsite. When we recently bought it, the local council's blessing meant we could reopen this lovely riverside campsite!

Old-school Scottish banter and a slower and peaceful pace of life permeate the village, and you will certainly leave having had the feeling that you have been fully immersed in Scotland's traditional and agricultural heartland.

Having a love of the outdoors, countryside, walking Libby (our mischievous sighthound mix) and good old fashioned community... getting to know your neighbors... having a good old chinwag, we feel blessed to have found a little slice of heaven called Bonchester Bridge!

There is nothing like hearing the Rule River meandering through Bonnie Park, the bird song, watching the lambs leaping and catching a glimpse of the local heron, to name but a few things that bring joy!

The simple life is what it is all about and if you feel the same... then welcome to Bonnie Park.

There is a saying, "doing nothing is sometimes everything," and at Bonnie Park, that is very much the case. However, for those that enjoy the less sedentary lifestyle, there is opportunities for wild swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking with the River Rule running adjacent to the site.

The village of Bonchester Bridge may be small, but it comes alive during the annual international sheep-shearing contest every August - a must-see event! Plus, it is perfectly placed for trips to Hawick and Jedburgh (both just 15 minutes away) or even a trip to Kielder Forest, the largest in the UK.

There are plenty of walks on the outskirts of the village as well as cycling routes or if you've got the kids with you head to Wilton Lodge Park (20 minutes) with beautiful gardens, a museum and playground!

Other nearby attractions include:

  • Bedrule Castle (10 minutes)
  • Mary Queen of Scots' Visitors Centre (15 minutes)
  • Hawick Golf Club (20 minutes)
  • Country Sports Centre (30 minutes)
  • Kielder Observatory (40 minutes)
