Things to do when camping in Scottish Borders
There is plenty to see and do around the Scottish Borders, with a rich heritage and plenty of attractions it is a popular place to visit. The Manderston Garden is where you can enjoy beautiful flora and fauna, similarly the Kailze Gardens offers beautiful walled gardens filled with flowers. Other gardens you may wish to visit include Priorwood and John Paul's Glorious Gardens.
The historic Floors Castle is another popular attraction and houses an impressive collection of French 17th and 18th century furniture, as well as foreign porcelain and tapestries. Another noted house is Bowhill House and Country Estate which is packed with historic relics. Paxton house has its own gallery and a Georgian kitchen that has recently beed restored. The Mary Queen of Scots house is also fascinating, and Abbortsford House boasts its own Orangery. Barony Castle is another must see, and is where you can find the Great polish Map of Scotland. Thirlestane Castle, Melrose Abbey, Jedburgh Castle and Jail Museum and the Dawck Botanic Garden are other excellent day trips out.
The Glentrees Forest is perfect for walkers, and Eildon Hill, Blackadder Water and the Pentland Hills offer beautiful scenery and stunning views. You may also like to visit the tranquil Loganlea reservoir, or Smailholm Tower.
Families will enjoy a trip to Coldingham Bay, The St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve where you can spot local wildlife, or the Don Coyote Outdoor Centre where you can enjoy clay pigeon shooting, archery and air rifle shooting too.
