A lovely campsite in the centre of Edale. Well managed by friendly and helpful staff. A handful of different areas to pitch, all neatly presented with nice green and flat turf. Nice to wake up and hear the stream, birds and sheep - lovely and quiet in the night too.

I only stayed here one night, but the campsite had all you needed, well maintained, plenty of room, and brilliant views! You're also just a stone's throw away from some of the most famous bits of the peaks, plus some pubs and cafes. I will definitely be staying again and recommending to others.

Lovely small campsite with everything you need for a short camping and hiking trip. Everything really clean and well laid out. Charging lockers for phones etc. There is a fridge to store your food in and a freezer for your ice packs. There is a place to store wet clothes if needed. The showers are good and generally, all facilities are of a really good standard. A perfect place for a few days of hiking. Lovely pubs very short walk away with great food.

Site's response

Hi Rose, thank you for your great review. We're really glad this was a perfect base for you and you enjoyed your stay here with us. Hopefully we will see you again soon.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (No Car)May 2023

Only stayed for one night during a hiking trip, but I had a fantastic experience and am looking forward to coming again. Perfect location in the centre of Edale - very close to a couple of pubs (which was very much needed!) and the train station, so visiting different areas of the peak district or nearby cities would be very easy from this basepoint. I was given a warm welcome and tour when I arrived, the ground was very flat and well maintained which made pitching my tent a breeze. As a single camper with only one tent, it was fantastic value for money, especially in comparison to nearby campsites which didn't offer nearly the same number and quality of facilities. Though I didn't spend a full day to get the full experience of the campsite, I could tell how calm, quiet and friendly the environment was and that it'd be ideal for any family looking to spend time in the Peak District.

Site's response

Hi Natasha, thank you so much for your lovely review. We really do appreciate it and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Hopefully we will see you again another time soon.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (One Car)May 2023

Lovely site with great staff and clean facilities. You may well encounter D of E and Scout groups at this site though. We did, and it meant the site wasn't half as quiet as you'd expect. I'd check first before booking.

Site's response

Thank you for your feedback Richard. We are really sorry to hear that the DofE group disrupted your stay with us. We do allow D of E/Scout groups to stay with us as we want to encourage them to experience the outdoors, but we have a very strict brief for them prior to booking and upon arrival and always aim to pitch them in a separate field. Understandably the summer months are busier on the campsite, but if anyone is not respectful they will not stay a second night and will not be able to book again. We do appreciate the feedback, and we really hope this does not effect you staying with us again in the future. Cassy.

Perfect!

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (One Car)May 2023

A 2 night hiking trip and this site had everything I needed. No worries about parking my car securely, superb ablutions and a secure area for charging my phone. 2-minute walk from the pub, which had free WiFi. A choice of locations to put my tent, with superb views. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. Perfectly located for walks on either side of the valley. No signal on my mobile (o2) which was ideal for my break. Would I go back? YES Would I recommend? 100%

Site's response

Hi Ollie, thank you so much for your review. We're really glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Great tips for others too. You're right, there is very little signal on most networks in Edale, which as you say is great for a break, but the pubs and cafes here do have free Wi-Fi if needed. We really hope to see you again soon, best wishes Cassy and Charlie.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (One Car)Jan 2023

Great, kind staff, unbelievable view of the valley from inside the tent, super clean place and a private car park! We pitched our tent in the Foxes Corner section and had the sound of river overnight - just like in the films. The bathrooms and kitchen were so clean with hot water. The office was closed when we arrived, but they had put our name on the door with the instructions on where to pitch the tent and which bay to park the car.

Small Tent - Badgers Bottom Grass Pitches (1 Car Included)Aug 2022

Lovely campsite in stunning location. I liked the small sheltered fields, and the plots felt spacious and there is a friendly atmosphere to campsite. Facilities were bright, clean and never saw it very busy over the couple nights we were there (even sunny weekend in school holidays). Perfect location. Showers could have another hook to hang stuff but did manage with the one. Would come back again.

Site's response

Thank you for the review and feedback, Roisin. It's really appreciated and we're really glad you like the atmosphere of the campsite and hopefully see you again soon.

Small Tent - Woodpeckers Nest Grass Pitches (1 Car Included)Aug 2022

Nice campsite with only a few drawbacks. Check in time was up to 20:30 but the staff had left earlier because of a long shift and left a note as to where to camp and my allocated parking space. I had travelled in by car for a one night stay to supervise some walkers on Kinder Scout the next day but had to book 2 nights, which was annoying as it cost £30 and not the £10-£15 I'd usually pay for one person, one night even in a National Park. However, at least I made use of parking for the day. The owners should change this minimum weekend stay policy, as with electronic booking I don't see a need for it even during the summer. It's understandable to have a minimum booking period with a holiday cottage or a shepherd's hut as there is a changeover to do, but not with tent camping. Showers were 20p for 2 minutes which is many times the cost of the electricity and water used, even at todays high rates. More realistic would be 20p for 4 minutes allowing a standard brief shower for the minimum coin size for those meters. Wi-fi is not available at all and this is a problem for anyone who needs to communicate outside the valley as some mobile networks such as 02 and Virgin/Vodafone have zero reception. I had to go to the pub up the road to get their free Wi-Fi so that I could communicate with people I needed to meet the next day. As the complex does have internet for bookings etc via basic ADSL they could easily have a very limited guest service around reception for those who really need it. The excuse about being free of the internet etc and enjoying the countryside, read a book etc, is really just an excuse! The owners should look into providing guest Wi-Fi even if they charge a little extra for it, as the campsite is large and popular so there should be plenty of funds available for it and demand, and a real need. BT Business have this immediately available on existing routers so you just switch it on. For your exact location it's £26 a month for a Superfast fibre 36Mb installation. Pitches were good, staff were pleasant and helpful. Toilets and showers were kept very clean.

Site's response

Thanks for your feedback, Malcolm. As with many campsites around here, most have a 2 night stay minimum over weekends and summer holidays, but we do offer some backpacking pitches for those who walk on for 1 night. I appreciate the cost of the cost of our showers may seem high to you, but it has been the same for many years and most people are understanding of this. Unfortunately, with the rapidly increasing energy costs we just cannot afford to change this. Thank you for all your research into WiFi connection, the PDNPA offices do have superfast fibre installed, but this is not able to extend to the pitches. Even if we were able to do this, it is not something we are going to offer at this campsite for many reasons, a big one being that most of our customers really like the peace and quiet without technology. I don't think there are any other campsites locally that do offer this, but if you know of any please do let us know so we can suggest this to people who are looking for WiFi with their camping. We do make it very clear that there is limited signal and no WiFi on site, but as you have found it is available locally for those who want/need it. Thanks again for all your feedback, we really do hope you enjoyed your stay with us.

Nice campsite for anyone hiking in Edale

Very clean and peaceful. It would be perfect if they had WiFi.

Site's response

Really glad you enjoyed your stay with us, Richard. We leave the wifi to the local pubs, so you can really switch off and relax here and then share your adventures over some good food and drink. But thanks for the feedback, and we hope to see you again soon.
