I had selected this campsite because its in quieter area. The campsite had good facilities like a hot shower, hair dryer, freezer, place for washing up and charging. It's easy to find and ground is good to drive in. The toilets are clean. Even on busy day, it's not close to each other. They had 4 separate pitches to choose. The price is cheaper compared to other sites.

This is a farm site in a great location for access to the Lake District. Very quiet and peaceful. My level pitch was located in a smaller field with about a dozen pitches and close to the facilities. There were toilets and showers in old farm outbuildings, which were adequate. Water was hot with a good flow and spacious cubicles. Washing up facilities were next door and there was also a fridge provided. A short walk takes you to a lovely pub serving food and there is a village shop another short walk away.
Cheap and cheerful

In life, you pay for what you get. We paid £22 for two people, one night, with no hook-up in the Lake District peak time. The location is beautiful and ideally located to explore the northern lakes. There was an old farm out-building that had a very basic shower and toilet block conversion. Electric hook-ups were available. No chemical waste disposal facilities but there was a grey water waste facility. Family friendly and peaceful in the evenings.

Personally I wouldn't book there again. Wanted anything close to Keswick to break our return journey from Scotland. It was the only site with room for a caravan and was dog friendly. Pitch was tight and had to reverse push the van on a uneven slope to go on the pitch. Site was quiet as was in the middle of nowhere - enjoyed that. Surrounded by private fields and fenced area which forced the use of the car towards more open areas, where we could enjoy the surroundings and walk our dogs. Basic facilities were existent, with shower and toilets and wash up areas. A bit outdated and seemed not looked after, but they were there.

As advertised, a no fuss campsite with all the essentials and more and in a great location for visiting the Buttermere area. Toilets and showers were kept clean and had hot water and even a hair dryer. Washing up facilities were excellent and there was a shared freezer. Rubbish facilities too. Provision for BBQ's. Campsites are nicely arranged in small fields with hedges between which keeps the noise down and creates privacy. Views of the surrounding hills were lovely. The local village has a village shop (easy walking distance, and they sell ice creams!), and a few local attractions such as an historic Yew tree and other lovely buildings to wander through. You can hear the river from the site which is very peaceful. Would visit again.

The campsite was alright. A basic field with basic facilities. Location was okay, as it was a drive away from some nice walks and lakes although the view at the campsite wasn't the best. The bins were pretty full and you could smell the septic tank although luckily we were on the next field so it didn't affect us as much. One issue was the we paid for three pitches and an extra car space. When we arrived, we were given one pitch for the three tents and told that we can fit the car in the front of the pitch as there was no more space on the car park. We were warned on a pit stop at the pub that he is known for overbooking the campsite, so I imagine we are not the only people to have this issue. We luckily managed to get a pitch in front as someone was leaving as we were setting up, but it we hadn't have managed that, we would not have been able to fit one medium tent and two small tents on one pitch with 4 cars.
Lovely site

Owner was very helpful and accommodating. Great facilities and un-cramped pitches in several small fields which made it feel homely. I liked the fact that there was a freezer so you can use a cool bag instead of having to lug a fridge/cool box about. I also liked the fact that there was a mix of campers - some with tents (ie. not all motor homes/caravans). A very pleasant stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Whinfell Hall Campsite. It is in an excellent location to explore the Lake District and is very reasonably priced. The site has showers and toilets, which were kept immaculately clean. There is also a washing-up area and a small freezer for campers to use. BBQs are allowed as long as they are raised off the ground and there is a designated area to leave disposal BBQs close to the washing-up area. The campsite is also dog friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Whinfell Hall Campsite as a good base from which to explore the Lakes.

Very basic site, quiet and relaxed. Probably not for everyone as it is "very" basic and toilet roll and hand wash doesn't get replaced too often. We also didn't feel that the owner was always available.
Basic facilities, but very quiet and peaceful

If you need to stay in this area, it's a nice campsite. You have to phone a mobile on arrival to be told your pitch no. I couldn't get a reply at first and was blocking the drive, as it was not clear where to go. The pitches are spacious and it's a fairly small campsite. I had wanted to get a shower, but the floors were filthy with mud from campers. I know this happens, but would have expected regular cleaning. It's a lovely location, just a very basic campsite.
Reasonably priced, great location

Lovely little find of a campsite. Location is great with a village shop selling essentials and other local produced items and a friendly pub with great food in walking distance from the site. The site was well organised with numbered level pitches and electric points dotted throughout the three pitching fields. You call the number displayed at the site when you arrive and the owner comes out to guide you to the best spot for your set up. The facilities are a little run down but there was hot running water, 2 roomy shower cubicles with hooks and a place to put your things, and 2 toilets. The site was beautifully quiet during the day when everyone has gone out for the day, and we didn't have any issues at night either - everyone adhered to the 10.30pm quiet rule. Regarding some negative reviews on here, I'm unsure what more people want for their money in the Lakes: if you want spa-like facilities, go and stay on the big sites in Keswick and Ravenglass and pay double or triple the price.

Lovely, quiet campsite about a 15 minute drive outside of Buttermere. We were met by a friendly staff member who left us to it.

Beautiful location, very peaceful. We stayed in spring, so it wasn't over busy. Facilities are basic, we didn't use the showers as it had been a really cold night and they are in an unheated large shed along with the toilets. It's a great spot to explore the lakes. Priced fairly according to facilities offered. We had a dog and there were no direct walks nearby, but situated on a nice quiet lane to have a stroll on.

Perfect place to stay for us in our camper. £18 for a electric pitch is very good value for the Lake District. Toilets and Showers were clean and tidy. Plenty of hot water. Walking distance to the pub.

Very basic. However, it was reasonably priced. Could do with investment in toilet facilities, they were located in an old barn and were old and not the cleanest, particularly the showers. Toilet roll ran out and no facilities to dry your hands (no hand dryer or paper towels). Sink to wash dishes were in another barn and just didn't feel like a campsite more like we were pitching in a farm and "borrowing facilities"
