A note from the site themselves...

We are Joss and Silvana, Joss is a writer of psychology and philosophy, and a meditation teacher and I am an actress, singer and comedy scriptwriter. We came to Wales in search of inspiration. By stepping back from the hustle and bustle of hectic 21st century life, we wanted more time for the important things in life.

Time for cooking, time for playing, and time for our arts... And most of all, we wanted more quality time for sharing with friends.

We also wanted to become more self-sufficient in food, water and energy and found that the site can provide almost everything we need. Running the campsite gives us the chance to connect with people from far and wide, of all walks of life, and to see them at their best - relaxed, open, devices off, present in the moment.

As the poet Rumi famously said: "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there." We like to meet people in that place.

We hope to welcome you soon.

Large Tent - Grass Pitches (Optional Electric)Aug 2024

If you're happy with a muddy field, then this is the site for you. It's very basic and has everything you need, but in wet weather, it is muddy slippery and wellies are a must! The toilet/shower blocks are filthy, they are not well maintained which lets the site down. I do however think that the filth is partly to do with the people staying at the site. The electric tripped twice during our stay because of the fact the plug-ins were over loaded, which is not acceptable when you pay for it. People were shouting and playing loud music until early hours of the morning. This site has the potential to be lovely however, it needs some work to solve the many issues unfortunately!

Site's response

Thanks for your honest review. Firstly, I apologise for the electricity cutting off twice during your stay and I agree that wasn't good. That bank holiday weekend was the first time that has ever happened, it took us completely by surprise and we are working on a solution to prevent it happening in future. It appears that some campers were using electric heaters inside the tents, which, in the middle of August, is something our infrastructure was never designed for (not to mention our pricing structure!). This is something we will clearly have to amend. In terms of the noise, yes, there was one group who were talking a bit too loudly until about 1am on the Saturday night. Once I was made aware, I went to speak to them myself and they immediately piped down. There was no music playing anywhere at that time that I could hear but there may have been earlier. Within 15 minutes of asking them to quieten down a bit, they all went to bed. I asked some of the other campers the next morning if they'd been disturbed and they said it hadn't been a problem but I fully appreciate this is a matter of opinion. In my own opinion, certainly our campsite is not one of the noisier campsites around, but on that particular night, I do accept the volume was a bit too much, a bit too late. We do not wish to be a campsite with strict rules (and most of our guests thank us for that), but we do ask everyone to 'harmonise with each other at all times' and I agree the people in question had gone too far that particular night for which I am sorry and will take note for when the next bank holiday rush comes. In terms of mud, yes it was disappointingly muddy that weekend too. Again, this is not something normal for us in the middle of August. This year has seen an unprecedented amount of rain in West Wales, to the point that the ground is still unusually soft, even at the end of the summer - hence why I was making such an effort to stop cars wheel-spinning and churning up the soil. This then led to mud finding its way into the shower block (particularly with a lot of kids on site that weekend) which then became dirty at times (and necessitated extra cleaning by myself!). There is very little a campsite can do when a year brings unseasonal weather, and for the cheaper campsites like ours, this is something to bear in mind when booking. We are a wild flower meadow, offering a semi-wild, traditional camping experience. We invested heavily this year in laying a gravel road in certain places in order to reduce the impact of rain and mud, but we limited that in order to preserve the natural feel of the meadow and surroundings as the majority of our clientele express how much they prefer less development to over-development. Unfortunately, traditional camping sometimes means mud and wet clothes and cold beans for breakfast. The vast majority of our campers fully accept that and still enjoy the experience, but I agree it's a matter of taste! Either way - and especially for other people reading this in future - please bear in mind that we are at the cheaper end of the market so perfection is not to be expected.

Wow! A life altering experience with magnificent hosts in a breath-taking environment. I was looking for a break from the rat race and this place was my sanctuary for one week and now it feels like a home from home. I could not recommend it enough. The location was just enough off grid to switch off from the fast lane and take a deep dive into self-sufficiency with my new friends. It was much greater than the sum of its parts. On a whole, it delivered in so many unexpected ways. I've already re-booked to learn and develop my own skills and assimilate into this new world. It's mesmeric qualities reinvigorated my desire to get away from the city and fully immerse myself in the countryside and become fully self-sufficient. My deepest appreciation to Joss and Sylvana.
