Birchbank is a small campsite on a Lake District sheep farm, located on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary. The site has a small stream running through it which the children love to play in and is next to the fell, with footpaths and bridleways directly from the gate making it ideal for walking and cycling.

My son and I had a fantastic stay here, using it as our base from which to explore the southern part of the Lake District. The site's basic facilities were all that's needed and were clean and well maintained. The location is breath-taking, and the approach road is an experience itself with horses and sheep free to roam. The site feels super remote but is within a short drive of some amazing parts of the lakes.

Simple, quiet stay

It was a nice spot, I think it was a bit overpriced for what you get. However, camping sites in general have have gone up, so it is what is.

Lovely camp on a peaceful farm with great access to the Lakes

Clean facilities and a lovely stay on a working farm. We liked being in the fells and surrounded by nature, but were still close enough to explore the Lakes.

Small camp field in a working farm? Clean and bright facilities? Warm and helpful welcome? Exactly how everything should be. We’ll definitely be back.

What a great rural campsite this is. A gem of a find. The facilities are excellent and the host keeps this place immaculate for a working farm and very polite couple. Many walks out on to the Fells. Will definitely be returning.

As remote as it gets, only the sounds of nature - mainly sheep and cows. Loved it.

I had a fabulous stay at Birchbank farm! The site itself is lovely, I camped beside the stream and enjoyed the sound of water on a night time! The facilities are well maintained, this is only a basic campsite as advertised but has certainly impressed me. Staff are lovely, showers and toilets are cleaned regularly. There's an onsite fridge and freezer for use. And a tumble dryer if needed too! Plenty of things close by e.g shops, bars and gas stations. I particularly liked how isolated you felt as this is located in the hills so plenty of beautiful walking opportunities to get away from the everyday hustle! I would certainly stay here again! Oh and of course the cute on-site cats who welcome you with a big rub up your leg! Thank you again!

A great find in the middle of no where however only a 15 minute drive into Ulverston. Very peaceful and surrounded by gorgeous views. The drive to the site was nothing short of beautiful. Some great winding roads passing some great wildlife and scenery. The campsite is small, the facilities always clean and well stocked, and great to have washing/drying facilities onsite. A lovely little river by our pitch was a great addition and the children loved playing in it! We unfortunately didn't have the weather on our side and it was a very wet stay. However, this is something that cannot be helped and we tried to make the most of it by heading to the village to walk up to see the Ulverston monument and even went to visit Cartmel, which was a lovely village as well. It was great to see the sheep being herded into the farm on our last night whilst making the most of a BBQ whilst it was dry for a few hours! The host was lovely and welcoming. Thank you for having us!
