Oaklea is a lovely, immaculate, quiet site. Just what my hubby and I wanted. It is in the beautiful area of Martletwy. You are met by the owner who shows you around and is very friendly. There is a lovely restaurant on site, but unfortunately this closed at 5:00 pm. We thought this was strange as most visitors would be out and about during the day, and to have the convenience of a restaurant on site on the return would be a bonus. However, we were fortunate enough to have a meal on Friday, as it stayed open past 5:00 to accommodate some people who had booked but were not staying on the site. The menu is excellent, and the food is very, very good! We finished with cheese and biscuits and sampled the wine tasting tray. Very enjoyable in a beautiful setting. The owners have only been there a few months, so maybe it's a case of finding their feet and sussing out the way forward. The restaurant could be rented out maybe, as I believe with the right advertising and promotions centred around the wine tasting and cheeses, it could be very successful. I understood the owner's intention is to concentrate on his fruit growing, so I understand managing the restaurant too could be a juggling game. I spoke to another couple who didn't understand why the restaurant wasn't open after 5:00 pm either. They arrived after 5:00 and were looking forward to a nice on-site meal. Sadly, this wasn't possible. We found The Snooty Fox down the road for a nice meal. However, for anyone visiting with a dog, you are not permitted inside the main building of the pub, and if the weather is off, then you are sent to the outside 'den'. We had a lovely stay, and to reiterate, the site grounds are immaculate and all other amenities are equally as clean. If you are looking for a pleasant, quiet, and idyllic setting, then this site will suit you.
Site's response
Thanks for you comments, it states on our website that the restaurant is open from 10am to 5pm and customers are told if they wish to book for an evening meal we will be happy to cater for that. I do believe that we were open on the night in question as the people who were in the restaurant when you came, had booked a table for that evening. Unfortunately, we have no intentions of juggling the restaurant. John.

Oaklea is a hidden gem! Just spent 13 nights there in a twin axle caravan and I can honestly say it was one of the best places we've stayed at. The grass pitches (electric hook up) are huge so you can have your unit facing wherever you like and still have so much space around you. As there are only 6 pitches it is very peaceful - even when the site was full you had so much space between you that you weren't bothered by your neighbours. The facilities are very clean and the addition of a further shower block will only enhance what is already an amazing place. John and Jill couldn't be more helpful - extremely friendly, chatty and the plans they have for the site are only going to improve this wonderful place. Wine tasting is a great idea and it's good that you can buy the wine together with chutneys and preserves. We had amazing weather but it did rain very heavily for 2 days however the pitches drained really well and were not water logged at all. It's a perfect place to go to relax and the surrounding area is lovely. We will definitely be back next year and hoping to stay for 3 weeks - fingers crossed!

Location- nice rural village setting amongst 40+ acres and vineyards. Very tidy and well laid out. Close to nearby towns like Tenby, Pembroke Dock, Fishguard and Saundersfoot with lovely beaches and scenic coastal walks. Value for money - Excellent Standard of service - John and Jill were great hosts, very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. I was lent a frying pan, given ice cubes and toasted your bread! Very personable couple. Facilities - we pretty much had the camping field to ourselves. It was very peaceful, all we could hear were the sheep, cockerel and birds- it was idyllic. The only thing is there is only 1 shower, this was fine for our stay as the campsite wasn't busy, but could get a little annoying peak season. Also, you have to pay 50p for a shower, for 15 mins. There is a nice restaurant onsite, but only open 10-5pm. I would have preferred it to open slightly earlier for coffee and stay open later, as the menu looked very enticing. There is a washing facility, rubbish area and 2 x microwaves. Maybe a fridge could be placed there for cooling ice elements/food etc and maybe a kettle. Cleanliness - The place is immaculate, shower, toilet and communal areas clean and the grounds are very well kept with lots of flowers and the vineyards you can walk around. We had a great long weekend, thank you John & Jill for letting us stay at Oaklea. We will return!

A quiet, secluded site with stunning views over the surrounding countryside. From the moment we arrived, we were made so welcome by the owners John and Jill. Although we didn't eat in the restaurant, we enjoyed the wine tasting and totally recommend the wines on offer. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and the site is kept immaculately clean. The grass pitches for the Motorhomes are very large and individually separated by laurel bushes, but each has access to the magnificent views and glorious sunsets. We had such a great time that we have no reservations in recommending this site to our family and friends and will certainly be back in the future. Thank you John and Jill for making it such a pleasant stay. Regards Richard and Chris

Lovely quiet site. Big pitches, so plenty of room to spread out. Friendly, kind, obliging owners who couldn't do enough to help. Even though it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, many places of interest were within close proximity. Cafe/restaurant served a variety of meals at reasonable prices. Wine tasting with cheese board is a must!

What a lovely place. We received the warmest of welcomes and were shown to our pitch and around the facilities. The pitches are large and flat, also very quiet. As a vineyard we were treated to a sample of their mead, which was so good we bought some, along with a loaf of Bara Brith. This is definitely a hidden gem, but don't tell the world or there won't be room for us next time!

We were touring South Wales and needed a site in the Narberth area. Oaklea was easy to find even though it was quite remote. John, the owner gave us a wonderful welcome and even opened up a new field so that we could be nearer to our son who was in a lodge. He also helped us pitch and told us about the site. The site has a great bar / restaurant area and we used both and really enjoyed our evening meal cooked by John and his wife. I have seen much bigger campsites with far less impressive facilities - so if you visit be sure to try everything out. As former wardens we know a good site when we see one and this is certainly one of the best we have stayed on. We also enjoyed a beer around the fire pit with everything you need provided by John. We enjoyed a number of good conversations and John, as a relatively new owner, is rightly keen to distance himself from previous reviews written under the former owners. Only reviews on this site are current. Well done guys- we will certainly be back.

Highly recommended. John and his wife (sorry I didn't ask your name!😳) were really friendly, welcoming and helpful. All of the site facilities are absolutely spotlessly clean, and the little on site restaurant is sunny and very comfortable. Although we didn't have a meal, we did have some fab coffee 🙂. Don't miss the wine tasting! They stock wines, liqueur and vinegars from Celteg and they are lush! They also have some fab cheeses, cakes and preserves available for sale. This site is peaceful and quiet and ideal for those wanting to get away from it all! Can't tell you about the surrounding area as we stayed on site the entire time! We'll definitely be back!

A beautiful quiet site with lovely little cafe & shop. Nice walk for dogs near the vineyard. Only downside is that there was only 1 shower on site. The shower was very clean but I do think they need an extra couple to accommodate the site when it's busy!

Our recent stay at Oaklea was one of my favourite camping experiences in years. Full marks for attentive and helpful service, beautiful location, and brilliant site. The owners prepared and served a delicious buffet for us as quite a big group one evening, with wine tasting - what an absolute and most appreciated treat whilst camping!! The site is small and beautifully landscaped with hardstanding, shepherd's huts and tent pitches, with a large centrally positioned fire pit, with roof and wood burner too. The toilets and washing facilities are clean, very modern and kept nicely, whilst the inclusion of a warm room to dry wet clothes is very welcome! My only criticism is the shower, of which there is only one. That appeared to come as a surprise to many and whilst the small size of the site means other people didn't obviously queue outside, it is definitely the main drawback. The local countryside walks and access (30 mins drive) to several beautiful west Wales beaches are a clear advantage of Oaklea too. The onsite vineyard also has things of interest for walking around and stunning sunsets!

What a wonderful campsite! Having grown up in Pembrokeshire and regularly visit family, we have tried most local sites around Tenby and Pembroke. This has to be our favourite! Quiet, peaceful with lovely owners. It's quite far out through lanes, but we loved that it was secluded and not overcrowded. This will definitely be our first choice when we go back in the summer. Site about 20 mins drive from Tenby and Pembroke. A big thank you to the lovely owners who went over and above to ensure we knew where everything was and how it all worked.

We found the place to be very clean, friendly and quiet. It was an ideal place for our young family to stay and the owners were very friendly. We didn't try the restaurant but it looked a nice place to eat with views over the vineyard. You are able walk around the vineyard which was a nice stroll. We would definitely revisit.

I stayed with my husband, 2 children and dog. We found the campsite easily, and the drive to it was picturesque. The site itself was beautiful and very clean. The owners met us and showed us around the facilities which are very thoughtful. There is a warm drying room with clothes airers which could be very useful if the weather is bad. The tent field is pretty with a firepit/BBQ shelter in the middle, and field views around it. The wood burner was a surprise, and John left us logs, kindling and fire starters. All very thoughtful. The site was peaceful with just the sound of wildlife and farm animals to hear. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would visit again. It's in a great location for lots of destinations and activities. Thank for having us.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay, good facilities and immaculately clean. The owners are great, always on hand for any issues or just for a chat. The shelter in the middle of the camping field with log burner is a lovely touch, it's such a peaceful place and sitting in front of the log fire into the night was fantastic. We will definitely be back.

What a beautiful site this is. Welcomed by John on to the site and given a guided tour of site and facilities. Left our extra washing up liquid and clean sponge for those who visit after us. Toilets clean and warm with good lighting, sink area for washing and recycling, very clean. Lovely green grass and fresh all round. Fire pit area is a new addition and was cracking at night to relax with the flames. John provided us with wood, kindling, and a pack of firelighters, so we chilled in front of the cosy flames. Nice to see the rabbits and hear birds, wildlife is so peaceful. Quiet roads on way in and all round, found a very nice pub called Cresselly Arms in the most surreal area. 300 years old! Picture on the wall of the proprietor/landlady, with letter from Queen. Marking in 1992 the age of 105! Was awesome to see and read that. So much more we could have done! Great site for the access to many things. WE LOVED IT!
