This is a beautiful location, let down by a number of issues. It feels unkempt - dozens of bin bags piled up in a corner, spilling out everywhere, rather than in bins. The reception was a bit of a mess and full of stuff, and the toilets were constantly blocked with tissue in the evenings and not flushable. One shower in the toilet block but that too was broken and out of use. The young guy tidying up was very helpful but the manager was surly and seemed disinterested. The 11pm curfew on noise was useless, rowdy parties, arguing drunk people and loud Call of Duty was being played way past midnight. I felt sorry for those camping with children. Once the party people left the site, the loud A1 next to the site was a constant disturbance. More than one vehicle had to be pulled out of the horrendous mud. There's also a ford you have to cross with a sharp ridge and someone's tyre burst on that. All in all, a shame as the place has a lot of potential.

Beautiful campsite. We came in Easter 2022 and Easter 2023. We love this campsite, it's so beautiful and tranquil. Great fun for kids with the rope swings and the stream running through the campsite. We will be back again!
Nice location, not so great hospitality

Nice location, some lovely spots to walk close by, however, it's November so it seemed like we didn't matter as guests as it is out of season. It took 20 mins to get hold of any staff to be able to check in and we arrived within the check in times. We asked for firewood for our fire pit, it took a few phone calls to get hold of anyone and they told us they would deliver it once they were home. It never came and we gave up waiting for it. We couldn't access their phone lines as they appeared to be closed so we couldn't get hold of any staff if we needed anything or in case of an emergency. We didn't use the showers as they were unclean and the toilets were covered in dirty clothes. There were taps hanging off in the washing up station so it was barely usable. Such a shame as it would have been a great little spot. We enjoyed ourselves but was very disappointed in the hospitality, as it was non-existent. Not sure why they open out of season if they are not prepared to give guests the same level of hospitality as they would in season. Would not stay again.
Probably the prettiest site I've ever been to

A beautiful location and probably the prettiest site I've ever been too. Ideal for children to explore and play in the shallow river. Maybe an extra shower would be nice, but other than that it's great. The staff are friendly, helpful and relaxed- can't fault them at all. I've been before and will go again.

This campsite is so pretty - the river and the trees are beautiful. Looks like a great place for families with kids as there is so much for them to explore, and great, fun activities like the swings and zip line. We were there on a particularly busy weekend so the fact that there are only two male, two female and one unisex/disabled toilet, and one male/one female shower seemed too few for the size of the site (hence one facilities star lost). The showers are also a safety issue (hence the second facilities star lost) - there are signs about the hot water but it is set dangerously high and could easily scald. Even when you set it to a reasonable temperature, as soon as someone flushes a toilet, the water is scalding again. I had the quickest shower I could manage but as there's a constant queue, the toilets were flushed five times so most of the time I spent dodging the dangerously hot water. This could so easily be fixed by a knowledgeable plumber, and would increase my review stars! I would recommend this site as it is beautiful but be careful of the showers!
Couldn't be any friendlier

We stayed with friends. Our children were able explore and paddle in the river, use the zip line, swings and play area. They were able to be children, free from technology. The cave bar was a great touch, as were the campfires available to hire. Pitches were spaced out. Facilities could do with checking on a bit more frequently, wear flip flops in the shower and take collapsible bowls to wash your pots. It was a friendly campsite, with a disco for the kids, the duck race was a nice surprise. If you want your children to have endless fun, make friends and just be children, then this is your place #funfunfun. The ice cream parlour just around the corner, just a short drive away, sells the best ice cream. Lovely surroundings, close to A1, Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest. We would recommend, and will be back.
Excellent gem of a campsite

We had never stayed here at The Old Vicarage before but after our three night stay, with glorious weather, we have just booked again for our four family camping group in August! Yes there is a little bit of noise from the A1 if you listen for it, but you soon think nothing of it once you settle in. Dave and the hosting team are brilliant and do anything and fetch anything for you! Brilliant Cave bar with all drinks you can imagine, great fresh pizzas made to order, and fire pits etc to hire. The crystal clear fresh water stream running right through the middle of the site is beautiful and has a zip wire and swing over it which the kids spent all their time on, together with fishing. The showers are the best showers I've experienced in a small site like this…… knock you over and hot…. Always! We will be back!!! Thank you, Chris, Paula & Heidi (& Jasper the springer spaniel)

A beautiful site set within the grounds of a stunning old stone manor style house. The boys had a great time splashing in the stream and playing on the swings and zip wires. Peaceful and full of mature trees, this is a place for nature lovers.
