About Hagg Hill Retreat Shepherd's Hut

The handcrafted shepherd's hut at Hagg Hill Retreat enjoys a picturesque setting and is lovingly furnished with plenty of special touches to give you a break to remember. Comfortably sleeping a family of four, there is a double bed and two single bunks, which convert into a sofa. The log burning stove will keep you warm and cosy whatever the weather and there's a single ring hob, as well as a barbecue and picnic table outside. The balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine or afternoon tea while relaxing to the natural sights and sounds of the surrounding countryside. One well behaved dog is welcome (no puppies), though must be kept on the lead at all times.

Walks along the River Derwent and the nearby Derwent Walk Country Park are both easily accessible. The latter offers a mixture of woodlands, meadows, wetlands, riverside and reclaimed industrial sites all linked by the Derwent Walk, covering 11 miles - and equally good for cyclists.

The National Trust site of Gibside Estate is just 10 minutes away, or travel the 20 minutes to Beamish's world famous open air museum, telling the story of life in the north east during the 1820's, 1900's and 1940's.

The city of Newcastle is also just 20 minutes away by car, and there's a bus service at the end of the road if you prefer public transport. The Metro Centre is only 10 minutes away and also accessible by bus. Berwick-upon-Tweed is an hour's drive, while Alnwick is 40 minutes away.

Horse owners will find plenty of scenic rides in the Derwent Valley. Stabling is available for your horse (the site does not have horses to use).

A rod licence is required for fishing (not on site).
