Midsummer Caravan and Camping is well located for exploring, a five minute drive from Flamingo Land and only ten minutes from the North York Moors National Park. There are grass pitches for tents, as well as electric hardstanding pitches for tourers. There is an onsite play park for keeping little ones busy, with the coast and Scarborough also within a 35 minute drive. Dogs are welcome too!

This was our second visit to this site. Becca was there to meet us with her friendly smile. We had a wonderful weekend whilst our children played safely on the playground with their bikes during the day and enjoyed the evening relaxing by our campfire. The site is lovely, clean and well maintained. We will be visiting again very soon!
Lovely site and a super price!

Our weekend stay at Midsummer Caravan and Camping was lovely. Jade, the owner, met us on arrival and was more than accommodating to ensure our group could all be together. We had a long chat with Jade the next day, they have not been open long as a site but the changes they have made from previous owners is vast. Our children loved the addition of a playground, the equipment was safe and sturdy. They have lots of plans for the site moving forward but the changes they have already made, ensured our trip was a good one. The only thing I would say to be mindful of was the water. It was one of the first things Jade mentioned on our arrival, assuring us it was safe to drink but that it often has a strange odour. This was the case and we found boiling it was fine but to drink it cold just wasn't palatable. I would recommend taking bottles of water for drinking, until the family have had chance to make these changes (which are all part of the bigger plans). The toilets and showers were clean and there was a convenient washing up area. As a group of 4 adults and 9 children (one tent, one campervan and one caravan) we found the site suited all our needs and was safe and secure to allow our children to play freely, without the worry as they were always within eyesight. We would definitely return to Midsummer and look forward to seeing the progress they make with their plans for the future.

Really lovely caravan site. Nice and quiet, toilets and showers pristinely clean. Lovely people running the campsite, will definitely be back again for another visit, if they will have us back (lol) 😂

We stayed here in our caravan for 3 nights. We arrived to a warm welcome from the host Jade. She explained they had only taken over the site this year. She told us everything we needed to know and said she was around to help with anything else. Nothing was too much trouble. The site was immaculate. The washrooms were clean with plenty of hot water and fabulous water pressure. The play equipment was brand new and a great addition for families. The location was ideal, so near to so many beautiful places.
Lovely site - modern, peaceful and welcoming

Great first camping getaway, very clean. Friendly staff, all gated-off which was great for our 4 year old.

We stayed on bank holiday weekend. 3 tent pitches and campervan with awning. The site has loads of potential however, there's quite a few things that need improving. On arrival, there is no clear signage to indicate where to go or an obvious reception. When we pulled up, the owner greeted us but after that, we were left to work out the facilities for ourselves. Waste water is a bit of an issue, from the toilets and dishwashing area and also from the chemical toilet which leaks out the back disposal area. It smells too!. Then there's something odd with the water, the water in the toilets, showers and dishwashing area has an odd smell of bad eggs and the drinking water has a milky cloudiness to it. We didn't like it at all so stuck to bottled water. There's some sort of borehole and treatment tower next to one of the pitches and that smells too!. It might be some effort to go green, but there's no explanation and it just puts you off using it. The showers also left a grimy feeling all over your skin after using them. The toilets are converted cargo containers with no clear signage of which were men's and which were ladies'. They've been adequately fitted out but there are only three actual toilets They need bigger bins in the toilets as they were constantly overflowing and need more regular cleaning as they were not kept tidy. Mostly campers and children misusing the facilities and not tidying up after themselves. The play area is falling to bits and I felt it was quite dangerous As I said, I feel it needs tweaking and prices dropped until it's up to standard.
Site's response
Hi, thank you for your feedback. I can now confirm we have signage up stating what you should do on arrival. I also explained and said where the facilities were. A waste water pipe at the back of the kitchen sink had broke but now being resolved. The water is from a bore hole and has been tested by Yorkshire Water and is completely safe. The well is where our water comes from which is natural water and this is why it is softer water. I can assure that the toilets are cleaned and checked daily. The play area is brand new it is not falling to pieces.

We chose this site given the location to Thorton le Dale and on the listing, it looks really nice. On arrival, we were met by the owner who was really nice. However, they did state that they were new and had some issues with standing water. The standing water was what looked like waste water from the showers, washing up area. After observing the waste pipes had become disconnected, this was not something that had just happen and looked like it was on going issues, after informing the owners, they did attempt to try and carry out a repair. We were given a plot next to the toilet block with constant people walking past our caravan and cutting the corner, some people nearly falling over the draw bar. As the grass was saturated, this made the grassed area very soggy. We did book for awning, however, given the ground conditions, we would not have even put up our windbreaks, let alone expensive awnings. We booked for a fully serviced pitch, yet the waste was to be discharged in to the adjacent farmers field as instructed by the owner. To me, this was not fully serviced. The site is based on 2 halves with a field dedicated to campers and a small area for approx 5 caravans in a separate area. However, the toilet facilities are used by all and with only 3 showers and 3 toilets given the amount of people on site, this was totally inadequate. The owners need to spend time to carry out maintenance and in general upgrading the facilities. Once this is done, it could be a really nice campsite but at present, we will not be returning.
Site's response
Thank you for your review, I can confirm the water pipes are all being renewed this week, alongside a brand new elsan point being fitted. There are many jobs already being carried out, however we are aware there are more jobs to be done, which we are getting carried out. This has been our first season and we appreciate all feedback so that we can get the park to where customers want it to be, which is why these reviews are helpful.

Great site situated close to villages for your essentials. The site and facilities were fantastic and staff were very polite and helpful. Already talking about booking again for a longer stay.

Booked this site at £30 per night for a tent. Got instructions to the tent field, the site looked okay, but the ground was horrendous, rock hard, cracked sand with some grass. The site only has 3 toilets and 3 showers in total, and it only has 1 sink for dish washing, not enough so loads of queuing. The bins were overflowing and the site ran out of toilet paper, not ideal, especially for the price. I believe it will be a great site, but for the price per night, I expected more.

Site well-situated and facilities clean. They do seem to have a problem with drains as every time we showered, there was a very putrid sewage smell. Nice children's play area. Small and quiet site. Would benefit from more than one bin as this was overflowing as we left. Also in the wash area (for dishes), it would be nice if there was a microwave and kettle as there were electric points available.

The camping is conveniently located close to York and the North York Moors National Park. The owner charges by the number of tents regardless of size and number of people. The pitch that was assigned to us did not have a very good surface. The grass was not in very good condition and there were the ends of barbecues and fires from previous campers. The facilities were basic but adequate. The drinking water supply smelled and we did not drink it. Overall, we felt that it was a relatively expensive campsite considering the facilities and their quality.

The site was busy over our stay, but we got a nice spot in the corner and we were able to create a little secluded area so we had some privacy. No sign of the dog field, but there were plenty of public footpaths over the surrounding countryside. Location is ideal for the North Yorkshire Moors.

Good little campsite but not near anything, so best if you have access to a car for getting around. We were in a motorhome so inconvenient to be moving it all the time.
Great secluded site but with some room for improvements

A lovely small site, situated in a remote spot, with a beautiful village nearby, around 3 miles. It's location is ideal for travelling to a number of towns - Pickering, Whitby, Scarborough and York. The hardstanding bays are a good size and you do not feel crammed in, and the owner was very nice, taking the time to have a chat when passing by. The grounds were very well maintained with a little play area for the children. The pitch was described as fully serviced, and although it had EHU and a water supply point, there was no grey water point. In fact, I couldn't find a suitable grey water point on the site. The waste water point was an old toilet which, although fine for emptying the toilet cartridge, was not suitable at all for emptying the grey waste container as you have to lift it up onto the toilet to empty it. The toilet also leaked from the back which isn't pleasant. Perhaps most important, the fresh water supply is fed from an underground natural well (I was informed by the owner). However, the water smelled poor (stagnant) and I certainly would not drink it - I went to a nearby shop and bought bottled water for drinking/cooking. If they are going to use ground water, they really need to consider installing some sort of filtration system so the water smells less and tastes better. I was assured that it was by the owner, but I certainly wouldn't drink it. We arrived on the Sunday and there is only one large rubbish dumpster, which was full. It was overflowing by the time we left on the Wednesday but was out for collection that morning. One dumpster with a weekly collection is quite obviously insufficient. I would love to make this site a regular but I don't think I can until I read that improvements have been made.

Stayed on this site for two nights. The toilet and shower facilities were very good and very clean. Plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure in the shower. The site is being geared towards touring vans and caravans and their facilities look to be excellent, with hard standing and water and electricity. The camping field could do with a little work, such as a water tap and slightly more level ground but this is potentially a work in progress? I would definitely recommend this site.

This campsite was expensive (£40 for a campervan, £30 for a tent) and lacked basics. The water was smelly and cloudy, our group even avoided the showers and spent a fortune on bottled water. There is only one washing up station for probably forty-odd pitches. Location was lovely but sadly, the stay was a huge disappointment during a weekend of children's national bike races.
Site's response
Thank you for your review, We currently have 5 touring pitches. I explained about the water, that it is from a bore hole and is natural water we have had this checked by Yorkshire Water and we have a certificate stating that this is drinking water which I was happy to show you this. There also is 3 showers and 3 toilets and a kitchenette. I do apologise if this is how you felt for your stay.

We booked this site for the location as it was near Flamingo Land. 8 mins away by car, which was ideal. Approx 35 mins away from Scarborough also. Lovely campsite with friendly owners, very peaceful. Facilities were clean, with a shower, toilet and also a washing up area. Only thing we would ask is if there was access to a plug socket in there for hair dryers etc, as couldn't see one.

Very nice place. Owners very friendly. Great for all the family. Showers and toilets very clean, to high standards. Small park so never going to be to busy, but with big field for tents and ball games with kids and benches to eat at. Definitely would recommend
