FAQ

Exploring the shores is free, but if you'd like to visit the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition, it's open all year round with ticketed entry. A selection of cruises and boat rides on the water are also available at reasonable rates.

Generally the wild south side of the loch is preferred for crowd free visits - as it's quieter and more scenic. The north side is busier and includes visitor centres, harbours that act as the starting point for cruises and Drumnadrochit village which is a good base for tourists.

Walks in the area, including the Loch Ness Trail, are very dog friendly and you can bring your four legged friend to see the Falls of Foyers, or on board a selection of cruises on the water. Book one of our dog friendly campsites near Loch Ness here.

Due to low water temperatures, it's not safe to go swimming in Loch Ness, but there are many alternative locations where swimming is possible. Browse our selection of campsites with wild swimming in the Highlands here.

The Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition includes onsite parking for visitors with over 120 car parking spaces. There is also a large car park in the centre of Fort Augustus, which is available for a modest hourly rate.
