West Wittering campsites
The little village with the big beach owes a lot to 1952 when locals clubbed together to buy its beach and save it from development. Today, West Wittering campsites attract visitors with acres of golden sand on the Blue Flag beach and walks among the coastal wildlife over to the East Head and Itchenor. Don't miss the wild water activities on offer at X-Train and do branch out to explore the entire Manhood Peninsula.

Things to do in West Wittering
The small village of West Wittering has made a name for itself in West Sussex and the Manhood Peninsula as host to one of the country's premier beaches. This lovely village will tempt anyone who is keen for a relaxing seaside holiday, the thrills and spills of watersports and the serene beauty of natural landscapes.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the village is its superb beach. West Wittering Beach is a beautiful Blue Flag beach backed up by acres of mowed lawns set up for picnicking. Take a stroll along the sandy beach, get stuck into sandcastle building with the kids or simply enjoy the striking sea views. In the distance you'll spot Chichester Harbour and life guards will cluster around you in summer, looking to keep the beach safe and secure.
The area is naturally sheltered by the lie of the land, leading to calm sunny skies and the local nickname for the beaches as God's Pocket. Instead of being sprinkled with loose change, this pocket is dotted with shells and interesting rock formations.
There's a beach cafe, too, serving up salty snacks and feeding the crowds on summer days.
The surrounding area is also a haven for wildlife, particularly water birds. You're likely to see Brent geese, warblers and gulls. In winter there's still plenty to see with breathtaking walks on the silt possible, around the point of East Head. Don't miss the annual bird migrations overhead in spring and autumn.
But if you need a little more action, those who are keen to try out watersports should check out X-Train. Based at the West Wittering Windsurf Club, X-Train offers windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddle boarding and surfing for kids and adults, from beginners to more experienced individuals.
Before or after a day at the beach why not relax in one of the local restaurants in the village or explore the quirky shops at a leisurely pace. There's a surf shop with enough gear to make you feel quite the part.
If you're ready to explore beyond West Wittering, try its friendly twin, East Wittering (affectionately known together as The Witterings), or the harbour villages of Itchenor, Birdham, Dell Quay, Fishbourne, Chidham and Bosham. Chichester and its Roman history should be your next sightseeing stop.
Don't miss a trip to the Chichester Harbour AONB which is a lovely place to explore by boat. Bracklesham Bay is well worth exploring too. This is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a good place to see fossils.
Bracklesham Bay and Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve are great for birdwatching as well. West Wittering is well situated for exploring the beautiful South Downs National Park, while nearby Portsmouth and Chichester with its beautiful cathedral are great options for day trips too.
